Roadtrippin' to the Redwoods!

Do we look cool yet? Dowedowe??

During 4th of July weekend, my boys and I went on a road trip to the Redwoods. I've never been farther north than Chico in California and the Redwoods have been on my bucket list forever and this was our first "trip" as a family so I was super excited!!! (I promise no more italics...maybe.) Chase, the ever so rational one, foresaw lots of crying from a car seat-ridden baby and a cranky wife. He was....right. (Whatever.)

We made our first stop on the Avenue of Giants at a watering hole surrounded by a flock of teenagers where the green was flowing ifyaknowwhatimean. We approached cautiously. They're a scary and unpredictable breed. And because I don't know how to switch topics successfully, HOW CUTE IS MY BABY IN MY SUNGLASSES!!! He looks like a bug. 8D

We stopped at several groves like The Founders Grove. Grey loved it.
We saw a really big tree.
And a tree cave.
We did some off-roading too.

Driving five hours can make one antsy. So we overcompensated and walked a million miles of nature trails. Okay, it was a million and one. Having a baby meant I didn't have to dry-heave through hard hikes we needed flat and stroller-friendly trails. I know a couple people were planning trips to the Redwoods. If you're going through the Humboldt Redwoods State Park with your kids, here is a list of great easy-even-I-can-do-them hikes. Chase and I really liked the Drury-Chaney loop trail. It was long enough for the adults to get a nice, long walk in to enjoy God's beautiful earth and for the kid to take a nap longer than 5 minutes. We stretched him pretty thin the first couple of days with the million trails we went on because we're amazing parents and we love the sound of crying babies.

And then one time I thought it would be a good idea to carry him and then I broke my back forever because apparently 23 pounds in a carrier is NOT the same as carrying 23 pounds during your pregnancy (Source: an idiot me.)

Teaching my son the art of the selfie at a tender age. Gotta start 'em young.
