My Current Favorite Skin Care Products

Wednesday, June 27, 2012
So, if you're fairly new to the site, I had really bad adult acne the past year and it just started clearing up. I'm still recovering from acne scars, redness, and the occasional pimples here and there, but it looks SO MUCH better than before. (I'll try to get a pic later.. Waiting on a few stubborn pimples to go away..) I shared some of my favorite products in that post and wanted to add a few to that list..

I'm also using Proactiv's pore refining peel, Paula's Choice's 2% BHA liquid, and Paula's Choice's natural cleansing gel.

Essentially the pore refining peel and the 2% BHA liquid are supposed to do pretty similar things but I use both anyway because I have huge pores. The BHA liquid is an exfoliator and works great for those annoying red bumps on your upper arms too (called keratosis pilaris). Sometimes the peel and BHA liquid aren't enough to exfoliate my skin so I'll do this baking soda scrub a couple times a week. After all that, my skin feels so smooth!!

At night, I use Paula's Choice natural cleansing gel to wash off my makeup. This is my favorite cleanser EVER. I have pretty sensitive skin and have had several allergic reactions to various products but this is so gentle and takes all my makeup off. It's even gentle enough to remove eye makeup! Highly recommend for sure.

Other than that, I'm still using the Proactiv cleanser (in the morning), toner, advanced blemish treatment (LOVE), dark spot corrector (ALSO LOVE), and Neutrogena mineral sheers foundation compact.

I've still yet to try the coconut oil per a reader's suggestion, but I'm still apprehensive and uneducated in that area.. I just need to take the time to research it. Time...can I have more of you, please?

Let's talk... Have you bought/tried/loved any new products lately?

  1. I started using the clinque acne set since January and my skin looks so much better now. I don't have the big pimples anymore and when I do break out during my time of the month it is like a little rash that is gone by the third day. And now I don't even use foundation any more, just concealer to hid some of the spots yet to fade and the spots are fading gradually which I like. My skin is sensitive and does not like anything too strong or harsh, it just dries up so much it feels like I have a sunburn.

  2. Glad the acne is clearing up! I can't seem to wear any foundation at all without breaking out, even oil-free. Has the Neutrogena foundation worked out well for you? I use their sunscreen when I know I'm going to be in the sun for a while.

  4. I've been suffering with adult acne breakouts this past year too. Never had the issue before so I was pretty dumbfounded for sure. Every time I think I finally have it under control and it's disappearing, again another breakout appears. I've never used Proactiv b/c I fear it'd dry out my dry, hyper-sensitive skin, but I might want to check out that peel you posted! Good Luck!

  5. I'm using Mary Kay botanicals cleanser for oily skin right now, and it's good at removing make up but not my favorite cleanser ever. I'm interested in trying Paula's Choice products next maybe, love that the cleanser you are using is natural! I used Proactiv in the past but am on prescription topicals for now. I am also considering trying the products by Dr. Cynthia Baily I think they are called OTB?

  6. I use the Biore Ice Cleanser and swear by it! I also love the Aveeno Positively Radiant moisturizer. I'm not really picky on toners/astringents. Also, if I don't drink enough water during the day, I definitely break out more (even if it's just one or two days!). Everyone is different, good luck on your skin care journey!

  8. I also had severe acne with P.I.H. (post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation), aka dark marks. It's expensive, but Cosmedix works so well. I hardly ever get any pimples, and I no longer have to wear make-up. For dark marks, I highly recommend a product that contains active vitamin C. Lactic acid is also very effective for exfoliation. If you have sensitive skin, beware, it may be too strong!
