Here they are!!!! My babies. Aren't they boootiful?!? I love them. I'd wear them everyday if I had enough skill to play ping pong in them. (I think my ankles sprained themselves just thinking about it..) I paired them with a "new" dress I thrifted a couple months ago. It has been sitting in my "to mend" pile during that time. It had like a million holes in it that I thought would be a piece of cake to sew up. How about really annoying and took me all day to do because a million holes is STILL a million holes to patch up? Now where's my cake... Okay, back to my shoes.. Gosh!! They're so pretty!!!
I have a hard time styling dresses.. I've mentioned it before - they're so easy, it's hard. So for this outfit, I settled for a black belt to match the dress and my shoes and the gold buckle was for that extra something (..so I didn't have to think about what jewelry to wear. Bling? CHECK.). Simple and easy! Okay, now I need ideas.. How would you style this dress?
I love how you've kept in simple, I think that's usually the best way to go with a dress (especially since you live in a warmer climate!). I'd do a scarf or a long necklace, and boots, or even flats. :)

I love how you styled this dress, and the only thing I would do to re-style is to throw on a structured blazer for work. I put together almost an identical look for work here, have a look:http://natashafatah.blogspot.com/2011/12/lonely-payphone.html

I have a hard time with dresses too...I always feel like I'm just not doing enough! This looks really great though, pulled together and simple without being lazy. I'd maybe style it with a really thick layered necklace? And maybe a cropped cardigan or a super skinny, plain belt to kind of cinch in at the waist?
ReplyDeleteOr a cotton vest. Keep it casual :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so gorgeous. The dress is stunning on you.

ReplyDeletelovely dress! that first picture is gorgeous.
ReplyDeletei love your take...exactly how i'd do it!
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful in this dress. I've been loving your casual posts but this outfit is amazing

gah I have the EXACT same problem. I buy so many dresses thinking I'll wear them a million times, but I don't because I end up wearing the same outfit a million times... and obviously, as fashion bloggers we never repeat..... ;)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I usually wear my dresses with heels and my fedora. Or a bunch of dangly necklaces. I love layering those babies
Dresses are hard for me to style too! I can usually think of 2 ways to wear one, but that usually only involves changing the belt. I do change cardigans and whatnot, though. But I definitely know what you mean!
ReplyDeletePS: WHAT a great hair day, right?
Oh my heavens! I LOVE that dress!!!! And those shoes... *die*
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about styling dresses, its hard to add stuff to them because they are so great alone...but you feel weird with just a dress, haha

I'm becoming a fan of layering dresses with other dresses or layering a skirt over the dress.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress with the belt is cute! I have been looking for a belt exactly like this and keep seeing them in thrift stores, but they're always too big! You look great- dresses are hard to style up so I just pile on accessories because I don't want too many more layers.

i love the simple style elaine! plus the belt is to lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think I almost had a heart attack when I scrolled down and saw the picture of your dress. It. Is. Perfect. I can't tell you how much I love thrifting and this is the perfect example. I love the sleeves, the pattern, the colors, the fit...everything!
ReplyDeleteI love how you accessorized it also.

Maybe a big statement necklace? That belt looks perfect with it though...I'd stick with that, unless you find one that's a cool color to compliment. Congrats on loving your shoes! :)

I love this look! So classy :) And those shoes..................AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteWould love to see you add accessories or blazers/cardis/buttondowns that play up some of the colors in the dress! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat dress. I screams: cognac-coloured high boots!

LOVE THE SHOES, Elaine! I have serious shoe swooning going on over here. Totes adorbs! I love the dress too...I love that style of vintage dress. I think I like to find an unexpected color in dresses and do a pop of that color somewhere else. Like maybe a blue belt or cuff for a fun look...or since there's some yellow/cream in there, you can never go wrong with an nude patent leather belt or an all gold vintage one (I LOVE all gold vintage belts!) for a more sophisticated look. Otherwise, I think no belt, a longish delicate gold necklace chain and fun colored flats would be totally cute too!
ReplyDeleteBut I love the look you went for. I'm obsessed with those vintage belts with the embellished buckle. I've bought like THREE in the last month! www.butshoppingmakesmehappy.blogspot.com
I think you look perfect in this dress. I hate to sound old fashioned, but I love you in feminine styles like this so much more than, say, your sweatpants style. And yes the shoes are really cute.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteOh the shoes are lovely! The whole outfit is!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the way YOU styled it. I definitely would have belted it just like you did. Man I love belts! and your shoes are quite lovely!
