Warby Parker Take 2

Thursday, January 05, 2012
About a year ago, I tried on some Warby Parker glasses. I didn't end up getting any of 'em. None of them worked for my flat, round, Asian face :(. I mean, (   * - *   ). So I've been waiting and waiting for them to come out with new styles so I can try some on in hopes they'll finally fit me! For this round, I made sure to read their widths and got medium and wide frames.

Cute! But touched my cheeks when I smiled.

Miles

Too low.

Langston

I ended up liking these the best. The only pair that didn't touch my cheeks. They were still too small..

Colton

Totally wish I could pull off orange glasses!

Zagg

These were too square for my face. Loved the half-and-half though.

So no go on these frames... :/ I liked the Webb glasses but they were still too small for my face. And the search continues! Anyone know of any other online glasses stores with a free home try-on program? I've recently heard of Bonlook but they don't have a free home try-on program and considering my unusual face, I don't want to take the risk of buying a pair of glasses without trying them on first.

  1. sorry, i wish i had some advice for you, but seeing as how:
    a. i have the very opposite of a flat, round asian face (ie small, narrow, extraordinarily small caucasian face - yes, caucasian is the opposite of asian didn't you know?), and...
    b. i don't wear glasses
i'm useless to you regarding frames.  i'm sorry.

but on the upside, i really enjoy reading your blog so i gave you an award here

i hope you had a happy new year!!

  2. Okay...so is not touching the cheeks some glasses no-no that I don't know about?  Because if I smile REALLY big (like crazy clown face smile), mine touch my cheeks.  Mine are also Warby's b/c yeah, home try-on wins.

Also, you can pull off orange glasses.  You just did.

  3. I love the first pair that you have on! I'm also Asian so I can identify with the challenges of finding the perfect frames/sunglasses. I've found that Kate Spade frames are usually pretty Asian-face-friendly. :)

  4. I actually love the first and last pair on you!

  5. That's what I've always thought?? But then again I don't have a nose bridge so I think it applies mostly to Asians..

  6. I don't wear glasses, but with my sunglasses I agree that the touching the cheeks is a no-no! With ones that touch my cheeks, I would end up having these super NOT cute lines on my cheeks where the glasses were sitting and everybody would look at me funny!

  9. why don't you look at some international glasses sites that cater to an asian audience? they'll probably have some much more flattering shapes.

Downside of course, is that you don't want to try and return/ship back something you purchased out of Hong Kong ;-)

  10. i just ordered from eyefly.  it's not wp home try on, but they do free shipping and returns.  i got a living social voucher for them so it was only $50 for a pair, but even at full price it's only $99

  13. Eyebuydirect.com lets you upload a pic of yourself to try on frames virtually. It's pretty close to the real deal. Plus, their frames are cheeeeeeeeap ($7 to $40, holla!) and if they don't work out, there's a 100% back, no-questions-asked return policy. Love my frames from them!

  14. I really liked the last pair, the almost-cat-eye gives a nice balance to your stronger jaw line. Very chic.

  15. I completely understand the round Asian face thing. It takes a special shape to flatter our bone structure.

  17. LOVE the last pair on you!! And I like the first pair too actually! Thanks for posting about this!! I went and got 5 pairs to try out right away! I hope one of the 5 works!

  18. Yeah, hahaha, I have a feeling they wouldn't have a good return policy...

  19. Thank you! They're fun. I wish they had fit. Ha!

  21. Cool! Never heard of 'em. Will check 'em out! Thanks for the rec!

  22. Thank you! I have been going for cat-eye glasses too. Mostly to accentuate my almond eyes but for balancing my jaw line would be a good one to consider as well.

  23. I like the Langston and Zagg. I get a new prescription this month and I can't wait to get a new pair of glasses. I think I might give Warby Parker a try (hello, free home try-on!). I'll be curious how thick the lenses are since I have pretty terrible vision.

  24. Yup. I had a really positive experience dealing with Warby Parker and will def order from them again. Wonderful customer service and mission.

  25. Classicspecs.com is another great one.  They have a home try-on program for six frames, and they seem to have a larger variety than warby. I tried out both sites, and ultimately ended up going with a warby pair (the zagg).

  26. Warby does a  high-index lens (I'm guessing that makes it thinner) if your prescription is over a certain amount for $30 more. :)

  27. I love Warby Parker - thankfully Langston fit even though I have a weird round Asian face too :)

  28. Not that your face is weird -______-;; haha

  29. Hi Elaine! I just received my Webb frames from Warby Parker last night and did a post about them! I actually really love them. They do touch my cheeks though...I wasn't aware of that eye glass rule!

  33. I hear you, picking out glasses is so difficult. But also equally fun, isn`t it :) Have you tried Ainsworth? They are very similar to the webb but slightly larger.
