The Dos and Don'ts of Colored Tights by Rebecca

It’s winter time, which basically translates to "stock up on tights" because pantyhose are so boring. (Actually, I don’t even own one pair, and I do realize that I probably should..) But so far, my collection of tights is serving me just fine. However, when it comes to colored or textured tights, it’s not a free for all. You can’t just put them with any ole outfit. I’ve learned a few things over the years that help me work tights seamlessly into an outfit.

Here are some of my main DOs and DON’Ts:

DO go for the monochrome.
Try keeping things in the same color range to keep the ensemble looking seamless.

DON’T wear them as pants.
We can see way too much...and we don’t want to.

DO try different patterns and textures.
When playing with patterns and textures, try to keep one pattern big, with the other small.

DON’T have too much going on.
Heels one color, tights another, a skirt, a top, and a cardigan can create a jumbled look. Try simplifying your look when adding in colored tights.

DO consider the hue.
I had a green pair of tights that made me look like Peter Pan. They made there way to the back of my tights drawer.

And, of course, be brave and be bold.
It doesn’t hurt to give it a try. If it doesn’t work out for you, you have lost nothing. But if it does, you have gained everything. Okay, not everything, but at least you won’t have to shave all winter long.

P.S. How to style tights to be functional and fashionable and how to style colored tights with an LBD.

I agree re: green tights. Whenever I see someone wearing them, I want to tell them, "NO! KERMIT!"

Not all green pairs are bad. Just the ones I had! I think a lighter green would be really fun though!

Haha. It's such a bummer cause they seem so fun! We'll just have to fly off to Never Never Land first.

Yay! This is so fun. My cousin sent me a ton of funky tights for Christmas and I've been a little intimidated by them. I guess I'm afraid they're a little too... young? (And I'm only 21, btw) So this is going to help me work them in to my wardrobe. Thanks!

What? You're NOT too young to wear colored tights!

I don't get the point of panty hose, I really don't. I love coloured tights though! That pink dress with those peach tights are lovely.
