Let's red, white, and blue this!

Thursday, June 30, 2011
Last Saturday, we had to get out car tires tuned up. My hour commute everyday took a toll on our poor little car :(. After we dropped it off, we walked to the Rose Gardens. I haven't walked that much since the Philippines last summer. I'm such a wimp now! Thank you, desk job.
I wore H&M sunnies ($1), Old Navy striped shirt ($12), thrifted blue pleated skirt ($3), secondhand Calvin Klein belt ($3), and Fitzwell flats ($75 - buy it!) with a vintage Gucci bag ($3).

Chase had to take some measurements for an installation for his studio project. Yeah, I don't know what that means either. We went to the California Science Center (the building across from the fountains) because it was free and we're cheapskates. We were the only adults there without kids. It was as awkward as it sounds.

P.S. Can anyone tell me where the post title is from?!? If you do, you get a million points.
P.P.S. Don't forget to enter to win a peach ruffle cardigan! Because you can never have enough peaches. I mean, ruffles. I mean, cardigans. I mean, what?

For the love of food (and maxi skirts)

Tuesday, June 28, 2011
This past Friday I wore an H&M white shirt ($10), yellow scarf (gift from Melissa), Forever 21 maxi dress-turned-maxi skirt ($5), and Target clog sandals (gift). But let's get to the good part.... FOOD.

I was really anxious and frustrated so excited and happy on my way to pick up Chase after work so I demanded suggested we go get some frozen yogurt right that second for a little date. We were stuck in traffic forever had a nice little drive through L.A. and found Crumbs! And then I was happy. (I got the Milkshake cupcake. DELISH.)
Then we saw a sushi restaurant and decided we wanted sushi. (We always want sushi.) But it was too expensive for us so we found a cheaper and better one a few streets over. We got so excited we ordered a little too much that our waitress had to ask us if we were sure we could eat that much. We said yes. And then no. And then yes again. And then no once more. I'm glad we said no. I'm paying for those cupcakes and sushi right now. I'm doing squats as I type this.

What I wore to the Pinterest meetup

Sunday, June 26, 2011
On Thursday night I was able to attend the Pinterest meet-up and meet Joy!! She is cuter and nicer in person...especially with that bump! I also met Ben, the co-founder of Pinterest. I told them you guys said hi. If you're on Pinterest too, follow me!

I got this idea to belt my skirt from Stacey. She looked so cute in her belted skirts that I needed to copy her! Then I realized I didn't have any belted skirts and after I cried a little I improvised... I love how it came out. Next time I'll wear a shirt that doesn't look like a potato sack on me with this skirt.

Bandeau Swimsuits

Saturday, June 25, 2011
How adorable are these swimsuits?? I tend to stay away from strapless suits because I don't have enough boobage to keep them up. Both swimsuits come with a removable halter strap but I still think I'd need to tape my boobs up just to wear these. I love the artsyfartsy print on the Carmen Marc Valvo Twist Top Bandeau Swimsuit on the left ($64) and the ruffles on the La Blanca Ruffled One Piece on the right ($73)! What do you think? Are bandeau swimsuits something you'd wear?

I'm wearing a gold necklace from Spain ($30), Old Navy striped shirt ($12), secondhand Gap flared jeans ($9), and Target clog sandals (gift) with a vintage Gucci bucket bag ($3).

Oh, hi there. I'm just, you know, walkin' down the sidewalk... You wouldn't think looking at this simple outfit that it took me a couple try-ons, a few cries, and all my clothes on the floor to achieve this look. That is what I call creativity, my friends! Now I'm off to figure out what to eat for dinner tonight.. This is probably why I always eat at 9pm. I need help.

Go Chic or Go Home

Thursday, June 23, 2011
I was recently introduced to a new fashion community website called Go Chic or Go Home. You can upload your outfit pictures, upload pictures of your clothes from your closet and then create outfits, shop, meet new fashion-forward friends, and easily participate in Kendi's 30x30!!

Outfit Pictures

If you're interested in fashion blogging but don't want to make that plunge yet, I say check out this site to practice your outfit pictures and get the hang of documenting your clothes and outfits online.

Clothes Pictures

This is my FAVORITE feature on GCOGH and undoubtedly its strongest. You can upload pictures of your clothes and then create little outfits online. It's nice to see your clothes all laid out on one page instead of strewn all over the floor and your bed. ..Just me? I just wish GCOGH could scan my closet and automatically upload them as pictures onto their site...with an accompanying magic wand, of course. It would be a great way to plan your 30x30...and regular outfits too for all the fashion bloggers who like all their clothes too much to pick 30 favorites. (Me.) I've uploaded my favorite items in my closet right now but I still want to go back and do everything including my jewelry, scarves, and belts and just pump out 10 or so outfits for those days when my creative juices are drained! And let's face it.. it happens at the most inconvenient times...like when you're late to work...or you just want to get a taco from the taco truck down the street but it's already been a half hour and you still can't figure out what to wear! I hate those days.

Shopping

While you're uploading pictures and creating outfits, you can also do some shopping! You can sift through their products by category, designer, store, price, and color. What I don't like about it is how it loads. Instead of having it by page, it loads like Pinterest and LOOKBOOK.nu where once you reach the bottom, it loads more each time.

You can also wishlist items that you'll buy later...or nonchalantly leave your laptop open at that page for your husband to "see." HINTHINTHINTHINT.

My Thoughts

All in all I really do like this site and its concept. It has a lot of potential and still requires some work...e.g., I'm not sure if I like how the tabs are set up at the top and left.

If you want to sign up and use this site, be prepared to commit some time to it! You'll have to take all your clothes pics and add details and stuff but I think once you get past all that it'll be worth it to see everything you have on "paper." Then you'll see how much stuff you have and give some to me, yes? If you're interested, let me know in a comment below and I can send you an invite!

You can follow GCOGH on Twitter and Facebook and stay updated on their blog.

By the way, this wasn't a sponsored post but a review. I tried out their website for a week or so and this is all my opinion!! Mineminemine!!

Over Father's Day

Wednesday, June 22, 2011
Hope you all had a good Father's Day! My in-laws came for a visit. Rosie was NOT happy. She hid in the shoe closet all weekend. We went to the temple, saw Super 8 (eh), went shopping (where I got this shirt!) and tried and loved Nick's Cafe (an old, tiny, ghetto diner in the middle of nowhere, L.A. that is absolutely delish!!!).

For church on Sunday, I wore my new H&M floral top ($16), Forever 21 striped skirt ($7 - buy it!), and JCPenney berry heels (free).

Then we went to San Diego for a quick drive to see my sister-in-law and her family for a Father's Day BBQ dinner. I just changed into these yellow jeans. (Told you I wasn't lying when I said I was living in them and the striped skirt all week! I finally washed them today. I'm not gross. Okay, just a little...but mostly busy lazy.)
It was fun to see my nieces and nephew again...and take pictures with my SIL's new cam...
Make some s'mores... (I had five. Is that gross? ..because they were delicious.)
And I got to hang out with my future baby daddy. So it was a great day.

This is only the second outfit picture Chase took this week. The first is here. This may mean (a) I've been sleeping in, (b) running late to work, or (c) living in these yellow jeans and this striped skirt all week. If you chose (d) all of the above, you are correct! It seems when I am in a style rut or rush, I usually grab the newest thing in my closet, which let's face it, is always. What do you usually grab when you're in a rutrush? rutush?? rutsh???

I wore this to church on Sunday...an Anthropologie green shirt ($11), Tulle teal skirt (c/o Tulle), and Seychelles tan mary-janes ($15). We were late (surprise) so I threw it on real quick. I actually wore this last month to church when we went up to Sactown for my SIL's wedding but nobody cares.

And because I'm so creative, I wore the same shirt and shoes the next day to work! It's not gross since none of them go to church with me. And you can barely tell it's the same outfit. That's what I love about remixing..just change one or two things and it's a completely new look! Gross factor eliminated, coolness up a gazillion.

The least glamorous closet in L.A.

Thursday, June 16, 2011
I haven't updated my closet pics in over a year! Unacceptable. But it's okay because I have the least glamorous closet in L.A...which is why this post is overloaded with bokeh and close-ups.
First up are my ribbons and belts (and my house dresses on the right but nobody cares about those - not even Chase).
And THIS is what I actually stand in front of everyday. Chase's 10 shirts are on the right and my clothes are on the left. The shelf you see is actually one long board of plywood. Our glamorous studio apartment didn't come with shelves, I guess. Chase and my father-in-law cut it to fit above the closet rod. They had to saw it in the apartment to get it to fit. And I watched.
I already know there's at least one person wondering what that blue thing is.. it's a mat. I take it out for when I did yoga that one time. And the black thing is a Korean fold-out table. We take it out when we have people over for dinner and they don't want to stand to eat. True story.
Right now I have it organized by layers (starting from the far left):  blazers, cardigans, dresses, tops, skirts, scarves.
My growing pants collection! I now have 6 pairs of jeans and 2 other-pants! ..and two pairs of shorts!
Unlike my last two posts on my closet in Salt Lake, I thought I'd include shoes this time. We bought this over-the-door shoe hanger thing from Wal-Mart. It works..
My coats and jackets in our teeny tiny (but oh-so-cute) entry closet.
We also bought this shoe thing from Wal-Mart. And it also works. My boots are secluded in the corner... Poor boots! You'll never be worn in L.A. again maybe possibly not.
And that's it. Disappointed? Me too.

The cutest tankinis on the block

Wednesday, June 15, 2011
Sooooo summer is coming up... The dreaded swimsuit-fitting.. It's when our dimpled arms and legs finally come out of hiding to make their appearance... Seriously, is there anything more depressing than trying on swimsuits? I can think of one. That one time I almost dropped my cupcake. I cried from the "almost." Speaking of cupcakes, don't you love how Lime Ricki mixes and matches the funnest prints and patterns? We all know stripes and florals are a champion for pattern-mixing but throw in plaid and my mind is officially boggled...almost like the game, but not. I've picked out a few that I wouldn't mind wearing if I had Michelle Obama arms and Carrie Underwood thighs. But I don't. Le sigh.
Don't forget to enter the giveaway to win a one-piece!!! Not unless you like swimsuit-shopping.. Then my hat is off to you...and I'm not even wearing a hat.

This is a sponsored post by Lime Ricki.

Just got out of the slammer...

The debut of my "new" skirt! This is how I would dress if I were in prison. Fashionably and with some fringe. Oh, you like my necklace? This girl made it for me! We go waaaay back...like last year in Salt Lake City at church. I've been blog-stalking her ever since.. It's not creepy because she has a cute baby. Or is it more creepy? I forget. What's even more awesome than me being creepy is you can make your own fringe necklace!!! Check it.

P.S. What? Modest swimsuit giveaway?

I'm wearing an Anthropologie green shirt ($11 - buy it!), secondhand blue scarf ($3), thrifted and skinnied Forever 21 yellow jeans ($6), and JCPenney berry heels (free) with vintage Gucci bucket bag ($3).

These are the same pants I skinnied here. My first pair of colored jeans -- I am finally cool. Do you guys have any colored jeans? I think next on my list are red and/or pink ones.

Naturally, I paired these with every and any color I could find in my closet. Now I want some Skittles. And by some I mean a whole bag just for me. Only the yellow ones please. And I guess green too. The rest are gross.

Pssst... Don't forget... The Lime Ricki swimsuit giveaway is still going on! Enter to win a modest one-piece swimsuit!

I'm sew domesticated.

Saturday, June 11, 2011
Last weekend I went through my to-mend pile and did some sewing and stuff.....

1 First up was my striped skirt from this post. A few of you asked how my skirt was longer than the one on the Forever 21 website. The skirt comes with a fold-over waist band but I didn't fold mine so it would be longer on me. However, the size I usually get was still too short on me so I got the largest size they had and took the sides in. But then it makes that pucker in the front and a little in the back so I took it in again and now it's the perfect bodycon skirt! And only cost me $7 and a couple of hours!

Pinning the sides...

Finished!

2 After wearing these Gap gray shorts the other day, I had to fix them up! They were a bit too baggy for me on the bottom when I rolled them up so I did a simple little sewing trick... I just overlapped an inch from the outside and tacked that sucker down. Now I can roll it without the extra bagginess. As you can see compared to the first picture, it looks a lot slimmer at the bottom...and no more peek-a-boo Gs!

3 I thrifted these yellow jeans a couple of weeks ago and they were way too long (or I am too short) and more of a straight-leg than skinny jeans. So I hemmed them and took the sides in around my ankles.

I first turned the jeans inside out and traced the outline of my other skinny jeans with some left over at the bottom to hem. Sewed along that line. Cut off any excess fabric. Hemmed the bottoms and done!

I can't wait to bust these babies out this summer!!! My first pair of colored jeans! I'm so cool now.

Pssst...don't forget to enter to win this cute, ruffly, modest one-piece swimsuit!
