Hello, my name is Erica. I blog at
North Meets South and I freakin' love tights. They are the bright, beautiful, silver lining on that dark, cold, hated cloud known as winter. Not only do they keep your legs warm, but also they can add a lot of pep to your outfits. Functional AND fashionable?!?! Can those contradictory ideals actually co-exist in a small piece of nylon? Why yes, my friends. They can, and they DO. Here are some of the ways I like to wear tights:
To spice up a colorless outfit.
When it's cold and rainy (or I woke up late), I have a tendency to reach for mostly black outfits. Colored tights are an easy way to make those bland outfits a tad bit interesting. Not too mention all the comments about your brightly-colored legs are fun.
To create a crazy colorful outfit.
Who said color-blocking was just for the spring/summer? Keep blocking those colors all winter long!
With boots.
Knee-high socks do NOT work with my fatty calves. They are just too tight and give my legs an anaconda squeeze! Tights, on the other hand, are just perfect. No chafing from the boots, and no tugging or adjusting the socks. It's boot heaven!
Even with pants.
No need to give up cropped pants just because it's cold! Wear tights with your pants, and your ankles will thank you.
Please tell me that you are now madly in love with tights, or at least slightly tempted to get some. If you already obsess over them like I do, tell me, how do you like to wear them?
I usually love tights but I am having a hard time getting into a tights-wearing mood this year - I literally would rather freeze my legs and go sans. However, I am hoping jump on the colored tights bandwagon - they seem so fun!

Great post! I have a few pairs of colored tights, but I am always so scared to attempt to add them to an outfit! Now, I must go conquer those babies! Thanks =)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to wear them with pants!
ReplyDeleteJust bought a pair of bright red tights yesterday! :D Don't quite know what to wear them with yet...
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm going to be outside in the freezing cold for an extended period (maybe a football game, or caroling, or just enjoying nature), I sometimes put on a pair of flannal pajama pants on under a pair of khakis and no one is the wiser--and I keep warm. So I understand the tights-under-pants idea. My wife stopped wearing tights, she says no one wears them anymore. I'll have to give her this link. =)
ReplyDeleteI have such a hard time wearing colored tights. For me it's the shoes I have a problem with.. I don't ever seem to have the right colored shoes to go with my red, green, and pink tights!
ReplyDeleteYay! This post excites me. My cousin is going to be sending me a bunch of funky tights for a holiday gift- so I'm pretty pumped. Thanks for the ideas!
ReplyDelete-april.
Tights are so versatile!

Charlie, Feminine Bravery, I've worn red/maroon tights a few times on the blog if you wanted to check it out! http://www.clothedmuch.com/search/label/red%20tights
ReplyDeleteME TOO! But mostly because it hasn't been cold enough for me to bust them out in L.A. and I am lazybones.
ReplyDeleteLove all the tights...especially the crazy colored outfit :)

you are so cute, Erica. <3 i love your style...off to check out your blog!
ReplyDeleteTight can totally make an outfit! Lately I've been obsessed with my plum wool tights and wear them with everything. Somehow they always seem to match... or not match beautifully. :) Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeletel love tights, but have difficulty finding enough occasions to wear them. I have a big tangle of basic black ones I'm always pulling out to wear with my skirts, but I really want to wear my crazy patterned and wool sweater tights! I definitely obsess over them.
ReplyDeleteIn winter, sweater tights can be worn under jeans for extra warmth. Or just around the house.
I find it awesome that you have just commented on a fashion blog, Rick! More power to you!
