1. Try incorporating subtle pops with accessories

You don't have to wear two big crazy patterned pieces to make a statement. If you want an easy pattern-mixing challenge to start you off, try using patterned accessories. Above, I wore a simple black and white striped dress with a polka dot headband. Accessories are a really easy way to mix patterns, whether it's a headband, a scarf, or tights!
2. Create distance between prints

If you want to play it safe with your pattern mixing, try distancing the patterned pieces from each other. In this outfit, I wore a printed floral scarf with polka dot tights. Clashing is minimized because of how far away they are from each other!
3. Wear contrasting patterns
To make sure your ensemble isn't an offensive cluster of prints, there should be some sort of distinction between two adjacent patterns. One way to do that is to wear completely different patterns. Here, I've paired stripes with florals to create a quirky ensemble!
4. Scale

Another way to create separation between two adjacent prints is to play with the scale of the patterns. For example, in the outfit above, the pattern on my sweater is much larger than the the pattern on my skirt.
I hope these tips inspired you to have some more fun with your closet this winter! Good luck mixing patterns and have fun!
