My name is Jessica, and Elaine and I know each other via church. Although, truth be told, I did read her blog before she moved to LA and then emailed her with tips about places to live and how to navigate the joys of LA. So, I'm pretty sure that counts as internet stalking, right? Luckily I'm only slightly odd in person, so that's was hopefully a bonus for Elaine. I've lived in LA for about 7 years and I'm originally from Utah. I work as a social worker and I do administrative work at a local non-profit agency. I've been married for almost 10 years and I don't have kids. At least none that I know of. :) I do have a great little dog named Bell and she is highly entertaining.
Be forewarned: if you tease Elaine about taking your picture she might just show up to church with her fancy-pants camera and drag you to the courtyard and attempt to get you to pose in your outfit.
This is precisely what happened to me. After a brief conversation wherein I teased Elaine about why I hadn't been featured on her blog, I soon found myself attempting to pose in my Sunday best. Yeah, maybe I shouldn't have teased Elaine....
Really though, Elaine asked me, "how would you describe your personal style?" I stuttered and stammered, and said, "um, ah. I'm not sure. I don't think I have a personal style." And truthfully, I've never thought about it. I often choose comfort over fashion, not that those things are mutually exclusive, but comfortable clothes often lack fashion and fashionable clothes often lack comfort. I've spent a lot of time over the years trying to find a happy balance between the two. Something that's just fashionable enough, while still being comfortable. I often do that by accessorizing my comfy clothes like crazy. I always wear a big ring, a bracelet, some big earrings, and a scarf if it isn't too hot outside (and sometimes I keep a scarf in my purse just in case). I have a serious love for accessories and I think they can make or break an outfit. I'm kind of a "more is more" gal when it comes to accessories.
This outfit here? Well, this outfit is a little wild, but that's what makes it fun. A comfy patterned maxi dress covered by a t-shirt, a polka-dotted cardigan, striped scarf, rockin' shoes, and some just-right jewelry and bag to top it off. Boho chic? Maybe. But comfy and cute, for sure.
