Finding the Fashionista in You by Ashley

Tuesday, October 04, 2011
Hi everyone! This is Ashley from over at flats to flip flops! I am “momma” to two sweet kiddos, a mischievous boy age 3, and a sassy gal age 1. I have a passion for fashion and an even bigger passion for fashion deals! Over at flats to flip flops I share thoughts on fashion for not only moms on the go, but also for your cute kids as well because, frankly, most of the time they are way more fun to dress! So stop by and check it out!

I am so excited to get a chance to guest blog on Clothed Much - seriously, people, a show-stopping, happy dance took place when I found out! So a BIG thank you to Elaine!

Have you ever found yourself in a fashion rut? I know I have - especially after expending so much energy chasing after two little monsters. Really, sometimes there are barely enough brain cells left to remember to eat or to go to the bathroom, let alone use any brain power to get dressed! Today I wanted to share my tips for moms (or anyone else for that matter) about getting yourself back into the fashion swing of things. Here we go:

1. Stay true. First and foremost stay true to who you are! What types of colors or patterns catch your eye? Whose fashion sense inspires you? Go with what makes you feel good, not what everybody else is doing.

2. Comfy is cute. Sometimes your day just demands comfy clothes. Come on, I can’t tell you how much drool I see in a day! But being comfy can still mean being cute. A good pair of jeans and a v-neck tee can do the trick! You can always spice up your outfits with accessories. Like in the picture below I have added a scarf and changed out my boring old shoelaces to bright pink ones.

3. Look at your closet with new eyes. Haven’t worn that dress for a year? What can you do to make it in style again? Turn a dress into a skirt, turn a shirt into a scarf, or change the shoelaces of your fave pair of tennies. So many possibilities! In the pic below I have taken an old hand me down dress and paired it with a striped tee, blue cardigan, and a thrifted blue belt to make it look like a skirt.

4. Don't be afraid to take risks. See something on the shelf that you like but are not sure it’s you? Give it a try! Go bold with pops of bright color in your outfits, like in the picture below. A pop of bright pink adds a little something to my white and black outfit. Scarves, handbags, and shoes are great ways to bring in some added color. Fashion = fun, so my motto is to not take it SO seriously! If it doesn’t work, oh, well, you don’t have to do it again (and most likely no one but you will even notice).

Go ahead, bring out the inner fashionista in YOU!!!
