I thrifted this sweater the same day I got my gingham shirt and I officially feel like a grown woman. Let me explain... My mom has TONS of these sweaters in all different colors. I always thought the day I owned one of these thin sweaters was the day I will become my mother. I'm still trying to figure out if this is a good thing or bad thing because she drives me up the wall!!! But I love that crazy lady. P.S. I am also crazy.

To avoid looking like my mom, I paired boyfriend jeans with the mom sweater, added some glitz and glam (the necklace, duh!), and a pop of color (the belt..). The oxfords remind those around me that I have a grown-up job. This is my version of a mom outfit! What types of clothes remind you of your mom? Leave a link if you've styled and worn it recently!
I'm wearing H&M sunglasses ($1), JCPenney necklace (free), thrifted Ann Taylor sweater ($6), secondhand Calvin Klein belt ($3), Gap Outlet jeans ($26), Ros Hommerson oxfords ($26), and vintage brown bag ($15).
pretty outfit
ReplyDeleteThat sweater looks amazing on you! Now I need to thrift one.
ReplyDeleteAw, does it count that I'm already a mom so therefore technically already dress as a mom? I love this sweater on you! And the oxfords are fantastic! What a great compliment you have given to your mom! (we love those)
ReplyDeleteADORABLE! (As usual!) Even if you do dress like your mom...LOL! Those shoes are too cute! Do they have much of a heel on them? I'm always on the lookout for flats or low heels that are cute, as I feel uncomfortable in heels (I'm 5"8)

Well even if it is a mom sweater I love it ;) This outfit is awesome

My mom actually hates to shop these days...she inherits what my sister and I no longer love (luckily for her we are all more or less the same size!). I hope to inherit my mom's good looks when I get older ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd I would not even think of this as a "mom look" at all; unless you are the most stylish mom on the block!
I love this! That sweater is beautiful and it looks so snuggly!
ReplyDeleteThat necklace pops against the neutral sweater.
ReplyDeleteMy mom just bought a pink gingham shirt that I've been dying to borrow ... but I figure it's wrong to use it before she does, so I am impatiently waiting for her to wear it!
haha my mom wears t-shirts and leggings a lot... we don't have a lot in common fashion-wise haha
ReplyDeleteVery cute!

Looks great! Good job, and it doesn't look like a mom! : )

If those are the kinds of sweaters your mom wears, she must have great style! Nothing "mom"-ish about that sweater!

Looks like the opposite of mom. Totally cute!
ReplyDeleteThis sweater is a great color on you. My mother doesn't really have a 'signiture style' but i feel a little like her every time I wear an unbuttoned shirt over a tank-top. A not terribly flattering look that she sports on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteoo that sweater is beautiful! And you styled it really well. loooove.
ReplyDeleteYou look bad ass, and I suspect your mom is totally cool :)
ReplyDeleteI love this color palette (palette said with a French accent, obviously). The red, camel, black with the bling. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI totally love love love this head to toe, those shoes are perfect!

Cute! Love the sweater and necklace!
ReplyDeleteAwesome outfit, love boyfriend jeans, u look great!
ReplyDeleteI wore a pencil skirt with a tucked in shirt the other day. Nothing fancy, but my mother was always on my case to tuck in my shirt when I was younger. That look makes me feel like a grown up.
ReplyDeleteYou look so gorgeous Elaine! My mom has those sweaters too now I'm looking at them in a different way... :)
ReplyDeleteMom's sweater + bf's jeans = fantastic ... the shoes are my fave!

My mom wore men's Levis and tees for years! And she rarely wore a bra. She started once I started wearing one. I also taught her how to pluck her eyebrows. Love her, but we are so different about fashion. I think you look awesome, love the sweater.
ReplyDeleteoh i love this look. it looks so casual! the red belt is awesome too. :)
ReplyDeleteThe glitz and glam worked. If that's a mom sweater, you make it look like a celebrity mom.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this look. I love that sweater...
ReplyDeleteI always think I look exactly like my mom when I wear turtlenecks of any type. She pretty much lives in them from November through March. Under everything, and sometimes even to bed!
ReplyDeleteSkirts. She always wears skirts. I do not care much for them other than for going to church. :P
ReplyDeleteI am in love with those jeans! Perfectly distressed... you look gorgeous :)

My mom wears athletic wear alot even though she didn't go to or isn't going to go to the gym that day. I know it is comfortable and all but it just a pet peeve of mine.
ReplyDeleteYour mom sweater looks great though, I must say. So not mom-like at all!
You look gorgeous!! I love your sweater. :) And your necklace is fabulous! xx
ReplyDeleteLovely outift. Really curious as to how your mom would wear it, as I am probably closer to your mom's age than yours :) I really wish some one would start a blog on how to style clothes for someone my age :)
ReplyDeleteYou look anything but Mom-ish! The boyfriend jeans and oxfords totally moderize the look : )

Love that sweater, Elaine. As the weather gets cooler, I crave for comfy sweaters. The beige color looks really nice on you.
ReplyDeleteGreat look!!
ReplyDeleteWhat clothes remind me of my mom? Ugly comfy shoes!
Love the look.

That sweater looks wonderful on you, love the color!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! I really love these kinds of sweaters because they're just as easy as a T-shirt to put on but they look waaay more impressive. I'm also really lusting after those shoes...
ReplyDeleteHaha, that doesn't look like a Mom sweater at all! At least not on you! Hmm, well my Mom loves cameos and when I was a younger I didn't think anything of them but about 4 or 5 years ago I really started liking them and wearing them all the time. Like in this post
ReplyDeleteLidi @ Eclectic Flair
what does it mean if you're 16 & in love with that sweater?! i'm thinking it's not good...but those sweaters look awesome!
ReplyDeleteElaine! I love the way you rocked that sweater...mom shmom, you look hot! :) I am drooling over that necklace currently. *wipe* wipe* I'm serious!
ReplyDeleteI actually wore a dress recently that reminded me of my moms because I swear she owned something just like it in the 80s (although hers was much longer, my mom is an awesome modest dresser like you!). I kind of have an excuse for trying to dress like my mom though, since she is a former fashion designer. I have been trying to dress like her since I was a kid! :) http://butshoppingmakesmehappy.blogspot.com/2011/09/one-of-kind.html
I have tons of similar sweaters in different colors, though I wouldn't compare it to my mom's style (her style is much more mature i.e. oldish haha) x
ReplyDeleteLove the boyfriend jeans plus statement necklace pairing!
ReplyDeleteAny kind of blazer makes me think of my mom. I wish I were brave enough to go that route but I can't bring myself to do it just yet... You make mom clothes look good :)
