Brandilyn sent me this skirt a while ago and I just busted it out. (Thanks, B!!!) I've been meaning to wear it underneath a dress or skirt like a slip but I couldn't figure out the perfect belt-shoes combo and I still don't know if I've figured it out! It's like a science, I tell you. And I forgot to study. So I'm thinking of doing a do-over of this outfit.. What belt and shoes would go with this dress-skirt combo??

I'm wearing a thrifted dress ($5), vintage belt ($5), Panache skirt (gift from Brandilyn), JCPenney pumps (free), and vintage bag ($15).
With such a whimsical dress/skirt/slip layering, I like the idea of a brighter colored belt, or a floral-print shoe/tote, or something not quite so "classic." That being said, I love the layered look, so cute!!

Such a cute look!

Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteyou're rocking it! i would have never thought to layer that skirt. you look amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh love how you wore the new skirt! Its so fun to have it peeking out at the bottom :)

Like the whimsy... and I'm immature enough to have totally giggled over your post title!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute. It's a great way to add length to a skirt that may be too short. I'll have to invest in one of those.
ReplyDeleteI love it when skirts peek out under dresses. I think you found the perfect heels for this outfit.
ReplyDeletei think your raspberry heels and a bright yellow belt would look amazing!
ReplyDeleteLovely as always, Elaine.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe that I've never actually layered a skirt under a dress? I don't even know if I've layered a dress under a skirt! I'm pretty sure that makes me a bad style blogger.
ReplyDeleteYou look great, though!
I need to start layering dresses and skirts!

I can't believe that dress is thrifted! This makes me want to go to a thrift store right now. And I love the shoes and bag!! I could see this for fall too. Plaid is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYes! this is such a cute dress!!! What a great find! I can't believe that it's thifted at all! I think the layered touch brings it together and gives it great personality.
ReplyDeleteYour dress makes me want to go thrifting! :D
ReplyDeleteThe layered look is totally working with this; love it!
ReplyDeleteCute! I think this would look great with color...like your berry heels and your yellow necklace worn as a belt?
ReplyDeleteI think you should go with a kelly green (or that jade that is so in this fall,) or red. Basically, color.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many options. I would do a skinny yellow belt with some simple neutral colored sandals.
ReplyDeletelove the shoes with the slip, but i would have gone for a brown belt! i seriously love that dress, too!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a yellow belt? I think that would look good with this dress/slip.

I love those shoes but are they comfortable? Look like they would be hard to walk in.
ReplyDeleteyour heels are veryglam!!
ReplyDeletehello gorgeous! i've been a bad blogger :( oops. anyways, while you look adorable--i would say for a redo i would choose red belt and brown shoes. or vice versa.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! You smashed it over the fence, Elaine! Personally, I don't like the shoes-buts that's me the 5"8 person who despise people who can wear high heels *GRIN*

Something wide and bright, like yellow or red for the belt. You could then either do matching shoes or stay with those - I think they're my favorites of the ones I've seen you wear so far :-).

Love the plaid dress! I would've went for a red belt and the same pumps. You look lovely.

this might be one of my favorite looks!!

Looks prim. Love the belt.
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit! I would have just changed the colour of the belt, brown versus black :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dress on you! I love how the skirt peeks out like that!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any belts/shoes/bags in orange? Blue and orange are always a happy couple, in my opinion. These shoes already look great with the dress though. Your hair is so pretty when it's down like that :)
ReplyDeletei think it looks great! that type of skirt is definitely the way to go; makes it flare out & look fuller. but what do I know about fashion?
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable
ReplyDeleteit looks fantastic! i love how you have the entire look styled

I think you knocked it out of the park, Elaine! What a great look!!

I think brown shoes, but love the outfit as is.
ReplyDeleteI like the layered look. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smile!
ReplyDeleteI really love the effect the fuller skirt has under the dress! I think the pumps you are wearing are a perfect match with the rest of the outfit! The white/beige color pulls everything together. If you wanted to get really matchy, maybe try a white belt too.
ReplyDeleteA bright belt would be fun =)
ReplyDeleteI like the combo. It would also look good with a brown belt instead of black. You could always go primary--red shoes and a yellow belt. That would be a definite statement but you could totally do it!
ReplyDeleteThey are not the most comfortable shoes in the world but I love them :)
ReplyDeleteYou have to do it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll try that next!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? It's like the modern petticoat!
ReplyDeleteNo :(:(:(:(
ReplyDeleteWhat smile?!? :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like the majority has spoken: yellow belt it is! But! I don't have a yellow belt :(. Yellow scarf and yellow necklace, yes.
