Shorts Your Boyfriend Might Wear

Saturday, July 02, 2011
I've been on the hunt for the perfect modest knee-high shorts for a while. Bermuda shorts? No, thanks. Tight knee-high shorts showcasing my thunder thighs? Mmmmaybe. Luckily, I found these two bad boys lost in a sea of booty shorts. You can get the Calvin Klein shorts on the left for $25 or the Hudson St. Tropez shorts for $165. Or you can thrift a pair of boyfriend jeans and cut them at the knees and roll 'em up! What do you think of denim boyfriend shorts? Would you wear them?

  1. I have "thunder thighs" as well as a desire for modesty, and bermuda shorts just haven't been cutting it. When I was younger my mom bought me shorts from the boys department and I was SO embarrassed. Who knew they'd become a style trend years later? :P I'd totally wear them...in fact I'm going to make myself a pair today. :)

  2. Bermuda shorts flatter only a few people and I'm not included in the category. I have wide hips and thin legs and the last thing I need is a bold neon sign in the shape of Bermuda BF shorts to point out the two parts. No thanks, I'll pass. These would look great on someone with a narrow pelvis and muscular calves.

  3. I would wear these.  They remind me of the shorts Baby wore in Dirty Dancing.  I imitated that look for years in elementary school.

  5. Well, girls would look AWFUL in the $165 shorts (esp my wife ;P), but the other pair or thrifted denim would look very nice.

Hope you have a nice weekend. =)

  7. I'm kind of on the fence about them. I'm considering hacking up a pair of jeans to try them out, but I've never been much of a shorts person. I like sticking to skirts. Aren't the booty shorts ridiculous? My grandma and I went out to brunch and an old woman walked down the sidewalk in teeny tiny shorts. We had to hold in our giggles until we got into the restaurant. It's bad enough when teenagers wear them, but old women too?!

  8. I actually just made a pair of these yesterday by cutting up some jeans that were too big and had giant holes in the knee. Then I just sewed the hem up and washed them to make the edges fray a bit. piece of cake! though i do wish i had $165 to spend on hudson jeans.... siiggh. someday.

  10. I love them! My pair of boyfriend shorts (from Charlotte Russe, last summer) are the only non-workout shorts I own, and I love them. I like how they are modest, but still show off my shape. I don't like this super-short-shorts trend that's happening right now, and neither do my thighs.

  11. I don't think I like the boyfriend style shorts look on me.  It just kind of makes me look sloppy.

  12. I love this look, I'm going to try with a pair of boy jeans that I have :)

  13. Not unless they go just below my knee! It's always kind of interesting to watch doctors try to find my tiny kneecap in the sea of chub surrounding it. I'm not kidding, I just had injections into my knees, and watching the doctor feel around was bizarre.

For normal people, they could be cute...

  14. I hate that the Google posts my real name on your page, not my blog username like I do everywhere else. Is there a way to change it?

  15. These are great but not for me. You need someone with hips/butt to pull it off (you lucky girl) or else it would emphasize a straight boy figure even more. Since they cut off at the knees it would make a short girl look even shorter.. haha like me! I'd rather opt for a denim skirt if I want something knee length. If you do get a pair show us how they look!

  16. I'm contemplating cutting off a pair of my husband's shorts at a longer length. Seems cheaper than buying them new! And longer shorts work better with my mommy lifestyle.

  17. the boyfriend look is something that i love, but every time i try it on, i feel absolutely ridiculous. :( but if there's one thing about me, i'm pretty persistent! ha! i do like that first pair, so...

  18. That's strange--whether I access this blog without being logged in to anything or if I come here from my blog (which is tied to my google account), I can edit what name appears, When I type in my email address, the system copies the first half of that address into the "your name" box, but it allows me to edit it.

  19. What I know is that I wouldn't spend 25 bucks on a pair of brand new shorts that look like any cut off jeans if I can cut off any old jeans any time!

But yeah, I would totally wear these jeans, only cut off by these very pretty hands of mine (?).

  23. Cute jeans! I love the first one´s for him :)

  24. I am a shorty... shorts at this length make me look like an extra on Lord of the Rings... however, a 4 inch inseam knocks my socks off and makes my 5 feet 1 inch frame "look" at least 5 feet 4 inches tall :)

  26. if i was super tiny like you i'd wear anything. i think this would be cute with a fitted top or a cute oversized v-neck. like i said, if i had your tiny frame i'd probably walk around in a bikini all day...that would make for a boring style blog.

  27. I have a similar Calvin Klein shorts that are my favs!

  28. Yep, because they are so comfortable on "fat" days! And I don't actually have to share them with a boy.

  29. I like denim boyfriend shorts... although they have to hit just right on my leg for them to look "decent" on me.  Since I'm pretty short (5'4") I prefer to wear this type of shorts at a little past mid-thigh... the problem is finding a pair with enough leg room, but doesn't gape too much at the waist...

  30. I have 4 pairs of these. I felt like it was the only one wearing these since everyone around me is wearing super short jeans. The super short ones look good on them an maybe on me, too, but I'm just not comfortable of exposing most off my legs like that so I own lot of these jeans. I always felt that these are old-fashioned. But you changed my mind. Since you wear them, these must be fashionable. Now I can wear them and be proud. :D

  31. I would absolutely do this. I've got a pair just a little shorter than this but they are borderline to tight on me. I wear them anyways.
You MIGHT be able to get away with something from the little boy's section, I had a pair of boys 'husky' jeans that I wore until they fell to pieces for a while.

  32. I do not have the hips for boyfriend shorts at all. I wind up looking like I'm wearing a box or something XD They can be cute on the right figure though.

  33. I probably wouldn't wear denim boyfriend short but, I would totally rock some denim capris!

  34. knowing mine he will tell me they are too short :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hale no, would never wear them. It reminds me too much of what my parents made me wear as a teen.... back when it was way nerdy. Plus, my legs are way too short and skinny, they would look like toothpicks.

    ReplyDelete
  36. yeah. . bermuda length shorts are usually what I wear. I am not too into anything shorter. I never could get into short shorts at all, even in my days of immodesty. I don't know how girls can wear them so short! I would wear boyfriend shorts! They are a great length.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I wouldn't wear those.... Especially not if I had to buy them for $165 =P Maybe paired with something a little more feminine, but they look to unfitted and boxy for me.

  38. i love the look!! i can't wear them myself because of my body type. they make me look really big.

but i found shorts in the 'mom' section at target that were really cute. they are a longer hemlength, on me they hit 1" above the knee, (but i am really short) and they are not super mom-ish. i love target!
