On the Nail

Totally digging this new nail trend with a different color on your ring finger. Even Linley is doing it!! The green nail polish is Sephora by OPI's Read My Palm ($10). The tan one on my ring finger is Under My Trenchcoat from Sephora by OPI as well ($10). And, yes, my rings are beautiful. I know.

Have any of you guys tried this trend? I'm thinking red and orange would be a fun combo to do next...because those are the only colors I have left! ..though I haven't been able to get this minty green one from Essie out of my mind since I repinned it...

I need some ideas! What nail polish colors are you coveting for the summer?

Don't forget.. You can win a pair of flower magnets or jewel magnets for your plain-Jane shoes here!

  1. I did a turquoise on 4 and silver on the ring. I really liked it, but all of my coworkers were confused as to why I painted my rings finger a different color. I think I'm going to do a dark grey on 4 and turquoise on my ring next.

  2. It's funny. I did this just hours before Lauren Conrad posted hers on her blog...we had done almost the exact same thing for the 4th of July! Believe me, I felt cool that day! haha. It is a fun trend! My recent painting job included 3 colors: pinky and ring fingers red, middle and pointers pink, and thumbs white! It's been a fun twist too!

  3. Hmm.. I like to keep my nail polish the same on all fingers. Different nail colors on the same hand(s) are out of place - not my idea of elegance. Oh well!

  4. Your hands are beautiful!!!! Love the polish. I don't do it because I have a hard time waiting for it to dry and then it doesn't last!!!

  5. I was actually introduced to this by a group of 6 year olds who insisted I paint their middle fingers a different color than the rest of their hands. (Of course, then they added stickers to those nails because, well, they are 6.)  I tried this on my toes, I had gray polish on most of them on and then bright yellow on one on each foot. I didn't mind it, I actually kind of liked it. Shrug. I dunno, I know this "paint one a different color" thing was featured in Vogue, but I'm not completely in-love with it. Ya know?

  6. If you don't want to splurge on the Essie Mint Candy Apple, the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet is a very good alternative. The color is almost exactly the same as the Essie color. Plus its only 2 or 3 dollars depending on where you go.

  8. Im wearing orange with red ring finger nails right now. I like it a lot. Before this I had blue with yellow ring finger nails. This has been one of my favorite ways to spice up my self manicure for a few years now. It's easy to keep things fresh just by switching the colors around and that keeps me from buying more and more nail polish haha

I have purple nails right now and my ring fingers are silver with a pink music note and yellow polka dots. My nails are usually very eccentric. I like that color (the greenish one). :)

  10. I am totally craving the Deborah Lippmann glitters! But I can't seem to stomach the price enough to buy them. haha

  11. Such fun... but it never lasts for me... sadly they become chipped

  12. I think it's really cute! I want to try it, as well as the glitter on one fingernail or tip too.

I have ombre toenails that I just painted this morning, and I actually used Mint Candy Apple! I love it.

  13. I do this all the time! I currently have a glitter top coat on my ring fingers, but I'll often do different colors.  I like to do either a color that contrasts really well, or one that's close but not quite the same - like navy blue and then one light blue finger, etc.  :)

  14. I did a navy with the mint as the accent! It looked weird, but cool. Every time I looked down at my hands I thought that I missed a finger haha! I like doing a hot pink with a lighter pink too to try out a monochrome-ish look.

  15. Definitely loving mint green nailpolish right now. I've been wearing it all summer! What about mintgreen with a pale pink?

  16. Lovely! And if it eases your mind a bit, I have that mint green Essie color, and it's not the smoothest color to use. It goes on sort of uneven, so it takes lots of patience and multiple coats. It's time consuming, is what I'm saying. : )

  17. I did the reverse French manicure last week: a bit of orange at the bottom and the rest is purple. I learned this trick from a blog... took a piece of tape (i used my regular packing tape :p) and cover the lunula part of your nail (totally just looked up the word "lunula"), paint the color you want to the rest of your nail, wait for it to dry (super important), remove the tape then try to neatly paint your lunula with the second color. I thought it was super fun and a lot easier than trying to do a regular French manicure by my self!

  19. Saw one on Pinterest that I really liked: after painting your nails, add a clear glitter to just the tops.  Not like a French manicure, but a little messier.

  20. If you add a few small drops of nail polish remover to the nail polish and swirl it in, it will help it go on smoother.

  21. I'm considering the "french" manicure where the tips are a different color rather than white.    I saw one done with plum and a deep gold tip that was really elegant looking.

  22. I have not tried it yet but totally have plans too, I love it!

  25. I'm actually rocking the half and half nail trend from Instyle, but it could have came out better. I think I'll try this next time for a easy cool nail design.

  26. I really like the mint color from essie as well, but I do not like the brushes...I prefer a wider brush that goes on better (ie: rimmel or sephora's mini nail polish). i saw the mint color from sephora (not opi) the other day - $5.

  27. Cute!  My favorite thing to do lately is to do all of them the same color, but put glitter on the tips of my ring fingers.

  28. I've been on this trend for awhile now. I love it!

  30. I like how your nails match the colors of your 'clothed much' logo :)

  31. I did a spectrum of colours, from blue to yellow, with green in between (two shades, mixed together on the middle toe). I'm a bit of a nail polish hoarder...
