The least glamorous closet in L.A.

Thursday, June 16, 2011
I haven't updated my closet pics in over a year! Unacceptable. But it's okay because I have the least glamorous closet in L.A...which is why this post is overloaded with bokeh and close-ups.
First up are my ribbons and belts (and my house dresses on the right but nobody cares about those - not even Chase).
And THIS is what I actually stand in front of everyday. Chase's 10 shirts are on the right and my clothes are on the left. The shelf you see is actually one long board of plywood. Our glamorous studio apartment didn't come with shelves, I guess. Chase and my father-in-law cut it to fit above the closet rod. They had to saw it in the apartment to get it to fit. And I watched.
I already know there's at least one person wondering what that blue thing is.. it's a mat. I take it out for when I did yoga that one time. And the black thing is a Korean fold-out table. We take it out when we have people over for dinner and they don't want to stand to eat. True story.
Right now I have it organized by layers (starting from the far left):  blazers, cardigans, dresses, tops, skirts, scarves.
My growing pants collection! I now have 6 pairs of jeans and 2 other-pants! ..and two pairs of shorts!
Unlike my last two posts on my closet in Salt Lake, I thought I'd include shoes this time. We bought this over-the-door shoe hanger thing from Wal-Mart. It works..
My coats and jackets in our teeny tiny (but oh-so-cute) entry closet.
We also bought this shoe thing from Wal-Mart. And it also works. My boots are secluded in the corner... Poor boots! You'll never be worn in L.A. again maybe possibly not.
And that's it. Disappointed? Me too.

  5. Hey it takes a lot to have a streamlined closet. Most of us have way too much stuff that we never reach for anyways - call me Wasty-Wasterson!

  6. It looks so nice! My closet isn't exactly huge, but it is certainly crammed full and disorganized. I really need to simplify my weardrobe and toss the things I still have from highschool. I mean really? Tweetybrid?

  7. Not disappointed. It's fun to see all your stuff and I am so impressed by your never-ending remixing!

  8. It's okay-I have an unglamorous closet too. At least yours is organized!

  9. I love your shoe organizers. For the longest time my hubs and I just used an old box that we got in the mail one time. It was pretty ratty. Just a few days ago we bought a shoe organizer, and I'm honestly in love with it. Sooo much better than that grungy box!

  10. You should see mine! Not only is it messy but it also lacks cute things.

Or maybe I just lack creativity. Anyway... your closet is still more glamorous than mine. Oh, and the closet doors kept getting lose so the apartment management took them off and now we don't have anything to cover the mess. :P

  11. Well your closet looks a lot better than mine. Mine is like a deep dark black hole that eats things.

  12. I love closet posts! I have one scheduled soon and man, I'm kind of ashamed of how much clothes I have after looking at yours :(

  13. Oh, and I want to say that I'm SUPER impressed you don't have clothes on the ground. That's where most of my clothes usually is!

  14. I am just so impressed! While you might have the least glamorous closet in L.A. I think you dress better than 90% of the people here! And you probably dress more modestly than 100%! That is an accomplishment!

  15. You have nothing on the floor.  I'm impressed.  You don't have a ton of clothes and yet you manage to look fabulous every day.  You are a great re-mixer.

  19. I'm sorry but I usually think closet posts are kinda..how do I put this?  Boring.  But then I read yours and almost choked on my raisins I was unexpectedly laughing so much.  Ahhh "And I watched."  And the exclamation points!  About the pants!  Yeah thanks for the giggles.

  20. You're so organized Elaine! I need to get one of those shoe organizers...mine are scattered all over the house and garage. Some are in boxes and some are in plastic bags here and there :(

  21. You are so neat Elaine, I'm jealous. Do you really put all your scarves on that one poor hanger??

  22. I have never showed pictures of my closet. It feels like the equivalent of standing in public naked or something. I just may have to face the fear and go for it.

  23. Who are you trying to kid? We all know that you cleaned for like 5 days to get this post ready. I bet you actually use your closet to house garbage bags when Chase is too lazy to take out the trash.

  24. I wish my closet was as minimalistic as yours Elaine. I would probably be a few hundred dollars richer if that was the case. Haha I had to laugh at your yoga mat comment - I tried to start working out at home once too, but it didn't last long either :P

  28. You said, ". And the black thing is a Korean fold-out table. We take it out when we
have people over for dinner and they don't want to stand to eat. True story." .... When I was married to my now ex husband, we lived in a 3 room plus bath mobile that was fine for the two of us and a puppy ... then, the holidays came around, we realized we were too broke and too far to go home, and we decided to invite another couple in the park in the same situation over.  And she was a cook, too, so she brought stuff - er, now what?!  Sitting at the kitchen table, all of us were touching knees with each other, and there was just room for our plates we were eating off of.  We used whatever kitchen counter and rangetop space we could find.  AND THEN SHE BROUGHT OVER THE BIG DISH.  Quickly, I closed the tops of my washer and dryer, and we ate buffet style!

  29. Haha Elaine - you should see my closet! It's much less glamorous than yours, and I have to share it with my husband!

  30. I love seeing other's people's closets!  The things on the shelf are folded so neatly, can you reach it?  I'm 5'2 and can't reach my shelf so I literally end up throwing things onto it.

  32. Wow, your closet is so organized and neat! I'm just a slob...clothes are everywhere right now. lol. I think it's great to have a smaller closet, then you don't have to search to find your clothes. =)

  33. Oh man you make me want to go clean, and organize my shoes. I have all of my shoes in a big green Rubbermaid tub cause I think it oozes class, and sophistication. My clothes are kind of a mess, but I'm okay with it... most times.
