Remember this maxi dress? Well, say hello to its offspring, the maxi skirt. The neckline on the dress was stretching out way too much that I was hardly modest in it. It was also too short to wear with heels.

I cut the dress right at the armpits and used a combination of Susan's and Tania's skirt tutorials to create the waistband. You can tell I didn't use a step-by-step tutorial because it looks horrible up close.

I'm wearing a maroon scarf (gift from a blog friend), American Apparel white shirt ($10 - buy it!), Old Navy brown belt ($10 - buy it!), Forever 21 maxi dress-turned-maxi skirt ($5), and Target clog sandals (gift from my in-laws) with a vintage Gucci bucket bag ($3).

  2. Well, whatever you did, you're not on Project Runway; no one's going to ask to see your stitches! So if it looks good, wear it!

    And it does look good!

  20. I think it looks great, I have this one bright turquoise-y maxi dress that I keep trying to pretend is a viable candidate for the chop chop, but I never figure out what to wear on top :/ I love it though, good job :D

  22. That is such a good idea! I'm 5"9 so whenever I wear a maxi dress it always swings around my ankles and is never long enough! I might try this with a maxi dress that I have & hate the neckline of! Thanks.

I hate when tops stretch out like that! Some of my tops do that while I wear them...luckily I always wear a couple tank tops at once XD

  52. I think it looks good on you. I've been cutting dresses that I get thrifting into skirts because I can't seem to find enough knee length skirts that I fancy. I always just use stitch wizardry, and some elastic.

  61. I guess it doesn't really matter how it looks up close, because on you it looks great! A maxi skirt or dress has been on my wishlist for a long time, and the more time passes, I'm starting to think that even a small person like myself can pull it off...now it's just a matter of finding the right one!
