Great minds think alike... by Kari

Elaine and I must be on the same wavelength.  Great minds you know!  Sunday she snapped a few pics of me after church.  I had never really considered doing the maxi thing mostly because I'm bite sized (like not even 5'4") and a bit curvacious so I wasn't sure how that whole situation would look on me.  But like with most styles or new trends I just wear them anyway.  I found this simple maxi dress at H&M last weekend and ended up buying it in like 3 different colors because it was super affordable and actually fit well.  I figured at $18 a pop you can't really go wrong for a comfy summer dress.  I once told a friend of mine that maxi dresses felt like nightgowns and could be our new "sweats."  Ps...this is my first outfit post and I'm a bit nervous so go easy on me will ya?  :)

I'm wearing H&M blue maxi dress, UNIQLO chambray shirt, Dolce Vita metallic sandals (I got mine at Anthro last year but don't worry they have the exact ones at Target this summer!), Madewell rope necklace, Timex man watch from Gilt.

  2. You are so pretty! =) Congrats on your first outfit post, I say wear what you want, you don't have to wear things that make you look "good" or longer, skinnier, etc. wear what you like!

  4. I agree, Bellesme! I'm so over trying to look this way or that. Why don't we just wear what we want?

  7. I just have to say, you're so gorgeous! And i'm a wee one too (only 5'1.5") so maxi dresses scare me! but i recently tried one of my friends on and i actually liked it! plus, you inspired me so now i'll have to wear it :)

  8. You look so pretty!! And whoever made all these rules anyways?? We should wear whatever makes us feel good! (For me, it's occasionally a giant tee and a pair of baggy pj pants lol)

  9. You look so fantastic! I think you pulled off the "maxi look" really well, especially with the jacket! I just purchased my first maxi (a strapless!) from Buffalo exchange a couple of weeks ago and have had yet to wear it. I hope i pull it off half as good as you! Great great first outfit post!

  11. As a 5'0 tall gal with (ahem) wide hips and a small upper half, I think NO trend will look good on me. You may have converted me to the Maxi dress which until 5 seconds ago I had sworn off. I see a shopping trip in my future...

  12. kari, you look like a rockstar in anything. its always nice to see a look that takes something sleeveless and does something better than just sticking a white t-shirt under it. can't wait to see more...

  17. I'm with you! Being 5'3" it's hard to find maxi dresses that don't drag on the floor making me trip... I literally only own ONE maxi dress and only wear it on special occasions. I need to get out of that funk!
But this looks great on you! Makes me wish there was an H&M where I live!

    :)

  18. You look so cute! And good for you to be so brave to do your first fashion post! I was afraid the first time, too. Now I am embrace it and it has been good for my esteem. My body is not "perfect" either. I am 5'4" and weigh a lot more than the average American woman. You look awesome and your smile is the best! Keep it up and I hope you find out how fun and liberating something you enjoy can be!!! Cheers!

  22. I totally feel you on fearing the maxi (I'm quite height challenged myself at 5'0!) but I think you look casual yet polished and well put together with this outfit, you definitely pulled it off. Though I must admit, my favorite thing of this outfit is your hair! Love the wavy-ness/layers with the bangs!
