This is what I wore to work on Friday. I announced on Twitter and Facebook that I was sporting a crown braid. Here is half of it. The other half is in the back. This was on my first try. Yes, I know I am amazing. I think this will be my go-to hairstyle until my bangs grow out.

Also, I haven't washed these jeans in a month. I didn't realize it until that day. But I still wore 'em anyway. I'm that hardcore.

I'm wearing an MNG by Mango tan trenchcoat (free with gift cards), black cardigan with lace detail ($17), DownEast shirt underneath (gift from my mother-in-law - buy it!), reworked JCPenney pink necklace (free with gift cards), J Brand black jeans ($158 - buy it!), and Target clog sandals (gift from my in-laws) with an MNG by Mango black bag (free with gift cards).

  2. Did you know you can put your jeans in a sealed plastic bag and freeze it? It apparently kills all odour and bacteria. :o

    Nice outfit.

  3. You pull it off well. It isn't a good look for me, but you rock it. I love that black and white sweater.

  4. You did a really good job on your first try. Love the lace detail on the cardigan xo

  5. love the braid! how cute.

it's funny because everytime I say that I'm going to grow out my bangs....i cut them again. it's like they get in the way and you don't have any idea of what to do with them.

  6. Every time I try to do any kinda of scalp braid, it just looks awful. It's so cute on you, though! Totally jealous. :0]

  7. Exactly!!! I've had bangs ever since I first cut them back in October '07. SO over them!

  8. First....this outfit is AMAZING! Second woohoo for crown braids! I should do them more often...but I'm too lazy to do it before work :(

  9. The braid looks great!! And I love that cardigan :)

  10. The braid looks excellent! I can't believe the cardigan was so cheap, it looks pricey.

  11. It was! It was like $34 or something and I got it half off!

  12. I rarely wash my jeans. They have to smell or be visibly dirty. I guess that makes me dirty. =P. Great job on the hair!

Amazing! I tried doing a "simple" side bang braid and my eyes started to hurt so I gave up! You're a trooper! =]

  19. You look great. I love your hair this way. When you live in an apartment you wash stuff when you can. I have a dirty pile, and a not that dirty pile in my room.

  21. This outfit is beyond cute. I really love the necklace, and the hair braid. Next time you style your hair this way could we see some more detailed shots of the braid? Also I too wear my pants many times before washing them, I reached into the back pocket of a pair of Jeans this weekend and pulled out a movie stub for a movie I saw in December. I promptly spilled salsa on them and had to put them in the wash.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Chase actually got detailed shots but it made my hair look less cool than it does so I will get it next time!

December? That's grossly awesome. And was the salsa-pouring accidentally on purpose? :)

  23. You are growing out your bangs? Dang I really like them. I think Asians are some of the only people who look great with straight-across bangs. I'm really just saying this because I know how desperately you wanted my opinion on your hair.

  24. Fab job with the braid!! and I'm of the belief that jeans never need washing. At least not until you spill something on them.

  25. Love your crown braid...it is not that I am not brave enough to try it, it is just that I don't feel that I have the mad skillz to execute :)

  26. Shoot! You could totally do it!!!!

  27. your hair looks really cute and your outfit is lovely. I want your necklace!

  28. Jeans only get more amazing the more you wear them without washing. And if you don't show us how you managed to do that to your hair yourself, I'm going to be seriously bummed.

I want to try that to my hair! I have no skills though. :( I'm probably too old anyway (even though I don't act like it).

    Anyway, you look beautiful!

  34. I read an article about a guy who wore his jeans without washing them every day for a year, then tested them for bacteria, and found they were no worse than the first day he wore them. Seemed like a good option, but then I got to the part where they started to smell bad, and he had to put them in the freezer every once in awhile to kill the stench. So all in all, a year's not bad.

  38. I love your hair! I have vague ambitions to learn to do this someday.

  39. Such a fantastic hairstyle, my dear!

  40. I like the contrast of the necklace against the black and white stripes. And your braid looks great! Being so very clumsy myself, I'm always amazed when people manage to braid their hair on a part of their head where they can't even see everything. I remember how I tried it again and again a few years ago and the results never came similar to a braid as it's supposed to look *g*

  41. Ahh, that's why I love my J brands, because they don't loose their shape so I can wear them over and over and over. Hey, doing laundry in an apartment complex is not really pleasant...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

  44. I'm confused about some of the other comments about freezing jeans...I basically rotate between two pairs and wear them once a month. Also, the hair = very cute.

  53. Hey Elaine! I really like your cardigan. I didn't realize a black cardigan could be so soft and feminine.

  54. I use to have my mom do my hair up like that all the time...

It is harder when you have to do it yourself huh? Awesome skills you have girl!

  55. Love the hair! You're so lucky you can braid and have it look adorable. And this outfit is so chic, I love a good trench and heels.

    ReplyDelete
  56. the braids are super cute! and i am smitten with those target clogs...my local target had them, but i was on the fence on the comfort factor. are they pretty comfy?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Mm, they're okay. They're not super comfy but they're not bad either. I sit all day at work so heels are okay for me! I've forgotten what comfortable shoes were like.

  60. Just fell in LOVE with these high heel sandals. Are they comfortable? How high are you and how much taller with these heels? I'm 5'5" and dont want to get any taller ;) Wonder if Target stores are still carrying these.

    ReplyDelete
  61. They're not bad for 4in platforms but I wouldn't run a marathon in them! I'm not sure isf Target still carries them.
