This weekend Chase let me go shopping. But I don't like shopping so we went thrifting...except I didn't know where the hot spots are around here. We looked up a few places on Yelp and came across two gold mines: (1) Venus thrift store at the corner of Western and 3rd and (2) Goodwill at 1200 Vine St.
The Venus thrift store is owned by Koreans and are full of reject Korean clothes. There were TONS of pencil skirts and I was able to snag one of the few longer skirts in my size. There were also a bunch of men's suits so if your guy is regular-sized, check it out. (Mine is a rare breed of the tall skinny variety.)
The Goodwill at Vine St. was one of the cleanest thrift stores I've ever been to. I snagged these teal wedges and some black rain boots for $20. Just in time - I think I just missed L.A.'s rainy season for the rest of the century.
I've been loving Pinterest lately. This outfit is inspired by three of my pins! Bet you can't guess which ones. (You probably can.)
I forgot to ask Chase for close-ups of my crown-braid hair again. Sorry, two people. I think I need to go for a more messy look next time to not make it look like I have a bowl-cut. I'm not that Asian.
I'm wearing a Love Stitch white blouse ($4), DownEast shirt underneath (gift from my mother-in-law - buy it!), reworked JCPenney pink necklace (free with gift cards), vintage red skirt ($6), and thrifted teal wedges ($10).
I ADORE the hair! Feel free to come do mine anytime. I pay well. In cookies (and really, what's better then that)
ReplyDelete(ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!!!)
ReplyDeleteI love your shoes! They're such a beautiful blue. They go well with the red skirt.
ReplyDeleteI get thrifting jealousy when I hear of the awesome places other people find in their backyard! I need to get off my bum and find some of the goldmines I know must be hidden in my city.
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is quite fabulous, but my favorite thing about your outfit is that you fearlessly paired teal, red, and pink (I suppose that's not pairing if there're three).
Wheee! Thanks for noticing :)
ReplyDeleteWooohooo thrifting!!! That skirt looks AMAZING on you! :D

You look so fancy! I love it. And I want your blue nail polish! Where can I get it?
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of that skirt. It's amazing and it looks spectacular on you!

Love the stunning color of this red skirt! Even better that it's tapered at the bottom--most vintage pencil skirts I see are quite boxy.
ReplyDeletethis has got to be one of my favorite outfits of yours. every little thing about it the hair the colors the shapes of the clothes. love love love it
ReplyDelete-aaez
Okay, you look FABULOUS. I want every single thing you're wearing here---especially the beautiful blouse!
ReplyDeleteI love good thrifting, and I love your crown braid. I need to try it....but I'm worried I'm not skilled enough.

Awesome. Love that the shoes are teal. Otherwise you might look too "American flag." You look so pulled together!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit:)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the skirt!
ReplyDeleteI lovee this outfit! The colour combination is so full of life. You look so queenly with your crown-braid. Where did you learn to do this?
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit Elaine. Shoes A+! I am going thrifting as soon as my final paper is handed in for the term - Wednesday can't come soon enough.
ReplyDeleteI love your shoes! Can't believe you got wedges and rain boots for $20, score! Love the pictures, so bright and beautiful. They remind me of spring!

Kristine or polly. That was your inspiration for those shoes. Great inspiration; great shoes.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is tall/skinny as well. And since that look is all the rage these days (starving hipster), he can finally find clothes that are long enough but don't resemble a tent. It's also why he gets hit on all the time by other men. (We live in the Theater District.)
North Meets South
I really love the skirt. That is an awesome thrifted find. I had a sweet bowl cut in middle school, and by sweet I mean awful. I looked like a very cute boy.
ReplyDeleteMy Heart Blogged
Those wedges are so pretty, loved the necklace too, wish I could braid my hair like that looks so cute! Big hug for Chase for letitng you shopping!

ReplyDeleteThat outfit is killer and the pink necklace with the red skirt is one of my favorite combos right now (red/pink). Loving the shoes, too! Good finds for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love it! :D I want to know how you do your hair...
ReplyDeletevery pretty! one of my favorites. red looks really good on you!
ReplyDeleteThat is SUCH a cute pencil skirt. I'm always looking for pencil skirts, but can never find any I love. You look great!
ReplyDeleteamy day to day
I tried crown-braiding my hair, but half-way through I realized I looked a little too milkmaid for my tastes (thank you blonde hair and round face!). So, I'll just adore yours instead.
ReplyDeleteOoo, and my husband also let me go shopping this weekend. There was much rejoicing!

sweet color combo.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is great! I love that top, and your nail polish matches your shoes. What's the color?
ReplyDeleteI had a bowl cut in 4th grade. I curse my mother for letting that happen to this day...
Holy freaking cow - could you be any more gorgeous? Am in LOVE with everything about this outfit - the color combos, the sweet, long, pencil skirt, the proportions - amazing!!
ReplyDeletelove your new shoes and skirt! They flatter you nicely :)

ReplyDeleteI love that skirt!
ReplyDeleteOH that outfit is purdy :) - I found you thru Vanessa's blog, loving the humor (lol, I'm not that Asian) and your approach to fashion. So good to find you!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you, Monica!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! and welcome welcome :)
ReplyDeletebeeeautious elaine!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure.. It's OPI by Sephora. I got it at JCPenney (of course) and it was the only green they had.
ReplyDeleteCelia, milkmaids are SO in. And what'd you get?!?
ReplyDeleteYou're dog-diggity right.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you guys go shopping for him?? So far Chase can only buy clothes at H&M and only wear Levi's skinny jeans. They are both on the more expensive side for us so he doesn't have a lot of clothes. Poor guy.
I just sat down and did it one day!
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean I can't pair blue with this skirt? :(
ReplyDeleteS, you're totally skillzed.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I was quite happy with this skirt. But it also makes it hard to walk in. Like a penguin.
ReplyDeleteSephora! I got it at JCPenney (of course). The brand is OPI by Sephora and it was the only green they had.
ReplyDeleteoooh i love the colors in this outfit. those flats are perfect!
ReplyDeleteStunning look girl!
ReplyDeleteX MENNEPEN
i love this ensemble! would have never thought to pair any of those colors together but it works!

Very fresh and delicious - like red berries and whipped cream:)
ReplyDeleteThe red skirt is so perfect! I love wearing red. And the shoes look pretty incredible. I need to start going thrifting again.
ReplyDeleteI love that shirt. It looks like something that could easily be worn a million different ways, it's so pretty and summer-y looking. I long for summer.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you definitely should get some close up pictures of the braid! I love seeing new ways to braid my hair since I finally learned how to french-braid my own head. It's fun not being useless :)

lovely colours. x hivennn
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this look!! And I'm seriously coveting that necklace!! What specific brand is it?
ReplyDeletethat skirt is an awesome find :) thanks for listing your thrift spots... i'll be checking them out!
ReplyDeleteAh this outfit is adorable! I love the necklace, and the blouse and... well, everything :) I have long hair (over 3 feet long hah) and the crown braid is most likely going to be my go-to this summer when it gets super hot, it really is a great way to do one's hair.
ReplyDeleteWow! this is probably my favorite thing I've seen you put together so far! I love the colors and the shape is so chic!
ReplyDeletehttp://work-it-blog.blogspot.com/
I love the crown braids! Do you have two? They seem thick! I like Korean clothes, so that thrift store must've been really fun to walk into! I haven't gone to a real store in a long time except for buying underwear! I like thrifting the most, but of course no buying lingerie used!
ReplyDeleteRed with teal is one of my favorite color combos!
http://alamodest.com
darling combo. i was totally checking you out at church. not gonna lie. the colors are so fresh and happy. sounds like you guys had a fun weekend. thanks for coming out to the auction as well!! :)

The red skirt is a great find! It's so timelessly elegant with the white shirt, and the shoes are an unexpected splash of colour - I like this a lot!
ReplyDeleteAgain, you look awesome with your braid!
Oh my darling, this is Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSo simple, but these colors are just delicious.
One of these days my hair will be long enough for such a crown. Braid. Crownbraid.
|Haiku Ambulance|
I like your hair! I have sticky-outy ears that I have to use my hair to bend back towards my head so no blogger topknots or crownbraids for me. Sad face.
ReplyDeleteWow! Great blog!!! We like it, beautiful photos :)
ReplyDeleteLove love love this outfit!
ReplyDeleteLove this lady-like outfit! The red skirt is so vibrant and colorful and the crown braid really makes extra feminine! =)
ReplyDeleteI'll pretend I'm saying something that hasn't already been said (regardless of the fact you've read this 87 previous times above) - That pencil skirt is amazing! I adore them - instant banging hourglass figure.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds. I love the cut of the shirt with the skirt. You look amazing.
ReplyDeleteKorean pencil skirts are the best! I just scored a red pencil skirt the other day at Goodwill with korean tags and I really REALLY love it, but it's just too small, and I can't sit down or breathe, so it's going back and I'm really sad. Maybe I could lose 10 pounds and be able to wear it comfortably. Stupid skinny korean ladies.
ReplyDeleteAnd those shoes are fantastic as well :)
Seriously. This skirt is also a little tight on me... I'm hoping once I lose the extra 5 lbs (!!!) I'll be able to fit into it comfortably!
ReplyDeleteThis might be one of my favorite outfits of yours ever. I love the scalloped detailing on your blouse, and that skirt is in such a pretty color. Lucky you to find a thrift store with clothes all your size :)
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable! I love the beautiful pop of color with the red skirt and the soft femininity of the lace top. Simple, but sweet :)
ReplyDeleteStop by again soon!

Fantastic skirt and shoes. I just picked up a tomato red skirt too. Seems like its a fave of a lot of folks.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing and the skirt is beautiful. So this Pinterest thing is interesting I checked it out the last time you wrote about it I think I might have to start using it.
ReplyDeleteWrite it in Lipstick
So chic - classic. That skirt looks fabulous on you, and I love your hair!
ReplyDeleteH&M mostly. For both of our b-days and Christmas, my mom gave us H&M gift cards. And, being the cheapsters we are, we only shop the sales so those cards have lasted a long time. We also got him some killer jeans and a striped cardigan at UO right after Christmas. $10 jeans (Obey brand?) that finally show that he does indeed have a butt. But you are right, most of his clothes fit horribly.
ReplyDeleteThis is one beautiful outfit, I love your necklace, love it to pieces, I want one (boohooo). =)
ReplyDeleteGreat thrifting finds! I'll keep those places in mind for the next time I'm back in LA (which will be in July!). Have you been to the Goodwill on Hollywood between Vermont and Hillhurst? Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteI pretty much love this outfit. Head to toe the look is amazing.
ReplyDeletela vie petite

ReplyDeleteThis is just sublime! The necklace, skirt, hair, everything. You have a lot of style.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me with this outfit? Siiiiic!
ReplyDeleteOh, I adore this outfit! Such a pretty shade of lipstick red. I really appreciate your unique color combo here, and I would love to see a side-view of those wedges :)
ReplyDeleteThat Korean thrift shop sounds like a gold mine.... I'll keep it in mind when I go to LA.
ReplyDeleteYou are looking marvelous.
This outfit is pure perfection! Such great finds! I love the teal wedges.
