So Chase and I tried to make a video but apparently I can't think, talk, and braid all at once because I'm stupid. Don't mind my pretty [makeup-less] face. I had just got home from the gym and had the perfect dirty, messy hair to do this.
What you'll need:
day-old hair
small hair elastic
bobby pins
hairspray - spritz at the end
strong arms
Click on the pictures to see them close-up.
If you have any questions, please ask them below and I'll do my best to reply!
what a great tutorial, elaine. i did a crown braid today as well, although i started mine in the back because i wasn't sure how to finish it off nicely in front. now i'm excited to try this way! -brittney http://adayinlifetoo.blogspot.com
Awesome tutorial! Thanks! I can't wait to try this - I might even send you a photo of the finished product, if I can do it well enough! I can't believe you did so well your first time - especially as you just sat down and made it up. I feel like I might just fail, even though I'm following your instruction!
YEAH! I'd love to see a pic!!! If you know how to French braid, it really isn't that bad! Just go along the hairline and make it tight when you're finishing the French braid and you should be good! Can't wait to seeeeee
Thank you so so much for posting this! I was wondering how you did your hair and didn't realized you just had one braid that went all the way around! I did something similar yesterday, but I had two braids that started at the top and wrapped around. I like the look of this one. I'll probably do it tomorrow!
I just tried it and think i'm kind of retarded! Your slide-show is so explicit and I can't do it right, I need some practice, but thanks for sharing it! Will let you know when I can!
This is such a cute idea! I've never seen a tutorial like this! Okay, I'm going to try it though I can't guarantee results because I'm kinda clumsy (and lazy!) when it comes to hair...plus I have really weak arms. :-/
I've done a different crown braid before (the easy kind) but I definitely wanna try this one. It looks hard but I like the finished look a lot better. I hope my arms can handle it tho because I think I will need a lot of practice.
Thanks! I've always wanted to try something like this ever since I started reading the American Girls series a million years ago (isn't there one of them ... the Swede ... who sports her hair like this?).
hi! i read your blog for blogging tips and it was really helpful, so a big thank you for that! also, i really appreciate the fact that you wear things that are actually affordable! i look forward to reading more:)
I know you said the outfit in the previous post was comfortable, but you didn't look comfortable. (I pretend I can get vibes from photos and my wife humors me)
Great tutorial! I've done the other crown braid but then you get pins all over the top of your head, so I really want to try it this way. Although, you're probably right about the strong arms :P
This was an awesome tutorial. The pictures probably helped more than a video because we could slow it down so I think you did a great job. I will definitely be trying this.
Thats so cool! I don't have strong arms though, I can barely braid my hair, let alone french braid it, UPWARDS! Btw, just wondering are you allowed to show cleavage and shoulders? Because I thought you said you couldn't. Oh and I love your nail color! What is it?
I'm so glad you did this! I doubt I'm talented enough to do it. I can barely do a regular braid...but I'm going to try it. Thanks for sharing! -Meagan http://spunkychateau.blogspot.com
I loooove this hairstyle! but i can only seem to braid slightly over halfway around my head. once i switch and start braiding up the other side it turns into a terrible mess and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
I did it this past Sunday and (without even thinking about it) started with my hands at the top of my head instead of switching when I got to the nape of my neck. Try that so you don't have to switch midbraid?
Oooh..I love this! Thanks for the tutorial :D I love finding new braiding hairstyles! This is also great, because I think I have kind of the same hair type as you (black, soft, medium thickness?) which means this will probably work well on my hair. Anyways, you pull it off great! I will try it out and let you know how it goes!
This is a great tutorial, and such a fun look to keep your hair up during the summer. I have a quick question for you...I have been growing out my bangs for a few months, and little pieces of them always stick out in the braid--is there any way to fix this? (Most of the time they're such short pieces that you can't really pin them down)
I love this tutorial! I've always wondered how to do this!

ReplyDeleteI would use pomade or lots of hair spray! Good luck! I hated growing out my bangs!!
ReplyDeleteYes! I've read those too. Her name is Kirsten, I believe.
