First getting-to-know-you of March

...is what today is. You didn't know it was a national holiday? Well, it is now. Sorry for skipping this most important feature on my blog last month. I checked back and I only did ONE getting-to-know-you post in February! Unacceptable. It wasn't my fault. Okay, partially. I did one the first week.. The second Saturday was Chase's birthday. During the third weekend, we went to San Diego and I didn't bring my laptop. Worst. decision. ever. And last Saturday I went to that Banana-2 Conference and I had to do an outfit post and then I was too burnt out to do another post. So, see? Not my fault.

For today's segment, my question is what is your typical day like? I got this idea from Nicole. She is doing a segment on her blog called Photo Job Shadow so email her if you want to join in on her fun project! I'd also love to see!!

When I leave the house in the morning, I wake up Chase so he can take my picture. Isn't he a sweetheart? Well, he is. The days when he leaves earlier for school, I go up to our rooftop and use our trusty (so far) tripod. When we take our pictures, my car is usually within arm distance so I can hop in and zoom away and Chase is left in the dust.
L.A. TRAFFIC. I hate it. I didn't think I could despise anything more but L.A. traffic has won. This picture doesn't even accurately depict my daily situation. I am lucky if I drive over 20mph...and it's bumper-to-bumper all. the. time. It takes me one hour to drive ten miles. Yes, I want to kill myself twice a day.
Work parking lot. We have a garage but this lot is better for me with the traffic flow.
My desk! Bask in its naked and messy glory. I absolutely adore my two monitors. I always tell Chase I want to go back to work so I can use my dual monitors. LOVE!
We have a cereal bar. I visit it daily. It's not usually this full so you have to be there bright and early if you want some food before we eat our other free food!
My dual monitors in action. What I do for my job is I basically manage our affiliate marketing accounts. If you're interested in signing up and making money from your blog, sign up here and then email me at ehearn@shopzilla.com!
Lunch time. My favorite time of the day. Fridays are always Mexican and pizza day. But I got Indian because I'm cultured.
It was gone in two minutes. Tops.
And then when it's closing time, I go to the gym. I stole this picture from this post because it's the closest thing I have of my gym (locker room). If you want to get a feel for how I look after I work out, go to this post. By the time I get home, it's usually 8 o'clock and I write a post and maybe eat dinner. Then I take a shower and go to bed. And that is what I do five days a week!

K, now it's your turn... What does your typical day look like?
Check out our past getting-to-know-you posts.

Also, if you guys have any suggestions for next week's question, please share! I'm running out of ideas.

OH HEY! I'm so far behind on blog reading, so I literally just came across this! Now I know why random people recently started e-mailing me about Photo Job Shadow, haha ;) Thanks for the shout out! And I'm jealous of all the free food you get at work :)

That's so fun. It's great to see how your day goes. OK, here's mine.

Roll out of bed (normally a bit later than planned and not very happy about having to get up)
Bath, get dressed
Drive to work (10 mins, sorry!)
Get a cheese scone and a cuppa tea from the cafe at work
Lunchtime photoshoot, either alone or with Pete (unless it's an evening shoot)
Work (at a desk that is much, much messier than yours)
Home and blog or evening shoot and then dinner with Pete. Drop him back at his hotel and then blog.
Stay on the internet far too late (often until 1am). Bed.

Oooh I am so jealous of your free food at work!
My routine is literally sleep, class, homework, eat & repeat. Not too exciting.
Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your everyday life!

I only have one computer monitor and it's small and it sucks lol At my old job I had double monitors and it was the best, sliding the screens from one screen to the other xP I want your job!! I have been looking for a marketing job but in NY its slim pickings :/

Hi. I'm Crystal. I've been stalking your blog for a while now and decided it's time to come out of hiding. :) I seriously have gotten outfit ideas from your blog and I really like having it as a resource. Also, cereal bar at work? Love it! My workplace needs to follow suit... :)

Oooh it was so neat seeing this glimpse in your day-to-day! And heck, Elaine, who are you calling messy? Your desk is so spic and span! Your to-do list is even super organized!

I'm an accountant and I have double monitors too! They're the best and really the only way to multi-task efficiently!

Hahaha I'm in LA too! Unfortunately, I take public transport, which is probably ten times worse than bumper to bumper traffic. OTL
The breakfast at your office looks wondrously awesome, I don't even. *w*
Haven't been here in a long time, but I'm loving these posts! :D

Free food sounds awesome!! My boring day consists of staying in bed with my laptop working on my dissertation. Thanks God for blogs that help me make it through the day :)

You cycle? I thought about it... But that's it. So kudos to YOU!

I love this post. I bet LA traffic is horrible. I was great getting to know a little bit more about you.

I thought I commuted a long way to my job (55 miles), but I am able to drive it in the same amount of time you spend. My typical day varies each day of the week. I'm only required to go to campus three days a week and the remaining days, i am teaching online.

Wow, I'm impressed by the amount of free food on offer!

My day usually involves dragging myself out of bed and throwing some clothes on shortly before my friend & colleague rings the doorbell and we zoom the 3 miles or so into work. Then it's work work work until 6pm (more interesting than I make it sound), home to cook the dinner, blog, read, go swimming and go to bed far too late. Interesting huh? I may steal your idea and do this as a blog post though - I'm sure I can think up something that will make me sound vaguely interesting!

Okay, this day isn't a typical weeday, but it's pretty close to our regular Saturday routine.

For a future getting to know you post I would love to hear what your gym routine is (hey, I'm a sucker for a good fitness post) or how you go shopping to create all those gorgeous outfits of yours.

Food at work. Awesome! Almost everyone where I work brings their lunch. The fridge is outside my office door and the microwave is inside my office so we get to smell everyone's lunch. That is OK until someone heats up something stinky and then you can't get rid of it. Like clam chowder or fish. Yuck! I used to travel to LA on business trips and you are right - the traffic is horrible. I can get to work in 15 minutes. I get to work at 8:30, then we check out what everyone is wearing, I make oatmeal (sorry Elaine) in the microwave and then work all day. No cubicle but a two-person office in a small manufacturing company. We manufacture arts and crafts supplies.

Hhahahaha that was our life for three years when we were going to school! Now it's just Chase's and substitute mine for work..

Love these get-to-know-you-posts. I wake up, hit the snooze 6 times, jump out of bed an hour late, then run to school with wet hair and half-done makeup. Come home, pretend to do homework or clean while wathing Hulu, then try to cook dinner. Then the hubs gets home and we play angry birds and watch movies until it's 9 and we get tired - school has turned us into old married people.

I just ADORE this idea! And thanks for sharing where you work. I always just assume that other bloggers are like me and don't work...even if they don't have kids! But wow, your day sounds full! I am going to do this on my blog. I swear I am. SOON. I will let you know! SO MUCH FUN!

much love: kimberellie (with a baby in her belly)

Ugh to the traffic. Whenever I've though of moving to LA, it is the traffic that gets to me.

Daily life is work, workout, then school -- with eating and blogging and studying somewhere in between and sometimes overlapping (class isn't always as riveting as it should be!)

Elaine Hearn said...

I've gained like 6 pounds... It's really bad :(

kimmie said...

I love this!

And I totally have a second monitor set up on our kitchen counter (where I usually blog because I'm too lazy to move my sewing machine from my desk, where i haven't touched it for about 5 months). I think my husband hates it.

How do people not get fat at your office?!! I'd probably gain like 20 pounds.

Morgan Taylor said...

jeez all I ever do is sit around, go to class and study. I'd still rather live in LA and deal with that traffic than live in muggy nasty Houston.

Stef said...

I totally understand the double monitor love. I have a single monitor only but the same width as your two guys. Perfect for multi tasking :) Enviable cereal bar right there and kudos for going to the gym! I have no backbone :D

I cycle to work, grab some porridge from the cafe at work, wedge myself behind my screen, read blogs at lunch, sometimes I cycle off for outfit shots before going home, have some dinner, read some more blogs, mess with photoshop, watch some tv or read. Oh my, excitement is me ;)

Lovely post, like Kristine said it 's great fun getting to stalk you a little ;)

I really liked this post a lot. I have been reading your blog for a while and this showed a new side of you :) I like these better than outfit posts. And your job is so cool- I was wondering what you majored in? Was it some type of communications?

Nice! One of my favorite scrapbooking ideas is to document one week of your life in pictures/words, EXACTLY like you did here. I love how food-oriented your office is.

For future question ideas, I'd check out http://www.plinky.com/prompts. They do a new question every day, and a lot of them would work for a getting-to-know you post.

carlotta said...

I loooved this post. Seriously. I'm jealous of your cereal bar. And your dual monitors. Very cool. My typical day consists of classes in the mornings, then doing homework or other random things the rest of the day. I know. I lead such a glamorous life. ;)

Kristine said...

I LOVED THIS POST! I feel like I stalked you... but I didn't... which is even better. I like Chase's bag. I like your naked desk. Cubicles are the cutest, ever. I'll have to send you some cutesy Japanese stickers and post-it notes so you can make your cube look ridiculous and ASIAN. And I want to work at a place where they have a cereal bar. I think that is my life goal. And I still don't know how you have time to blog.

I'm not going to tell you my typical day because I've been unemployed these last couple weeks/months and I just do a lot of sleeping. Shhhh.

I actually wrote a whole blog post about this back in July so I'll give a link to it here.

A super condensed summarized version - I do a lot of yoga, walking the dog, and eating. Mostly.
