A work-club-Hollywood outfit

Thanks for all your suggestions yesterday! I ended up picking a totally Elaine outfit (that I'm going to wear tomorrow instead). Then I woke up this morning and saw all your comments about sequins and black and changed my mind last minute. Can't you tell from the mess? (Actually, our place always looks like this...)

I wore my sequin blazer!!! Seriously, nothing else in my closet says "I'm goin' clubbin'" like this sequin blazer. Truly. I have no clubbing clothes. Why would I? I'm married. I'm a Mormon. I don't drink alcohol. I don't dance (only in front of my mirror). ...and I'm not a skank.

Because of my lack of clubbing clothes besides the blazer, I went for the classic route. I like it. It says "I'm going to party" while still being me (and clothed).

It was super duper fun. Not really. It was actually awkward at first because I only know like two people. Really. Not kidding. Then I made myself talk to people and be social or something. It's hard for me, okay? They even had a photobooth. Nuff said.

I'm wearing a maurices sequin blazer ($18), Gap button-down ($12), JCPenney broach (free with gift cards), J Brand jeans ($158 - buy it!), and JCPenney heels (free with gift cards - buy it!).

I think you look very Hollywood and classic. Love the look! Suppose you could have just unbottuned your shirt like 4 button down. That might work for the slutty look! but then it might contradict the whole mormon thing, I don't know.. :)

How does clubbing make you a skank? I've met some mormons that are open minded to the world, but you seem very naive and clueless to other people who do not share the same outlooks as you

I think that your sweeping generalization of certain social groups can be offensive to some. I'm conservative as well--Catholic--but I found your use of the word "skank", to be quite honest, a bit pious.
Just saying.

hehe I think those booth photos are testament to fun being had :) You picked an awesome outfit for the theme! Love it :D

The outfit turned out great. you look awesome as always.

Isn't dressing like a skank a requirement for club-wear? LOL.

Elaine Hearn said...

That's what I thought...so I went for the long-sleeve and long pants route ;).

LOVE IT!

You look great! You hit just the right mark of "I'm being cool at a club, while being a mormon." kudos! I always feel so awkward going to clubs the few times I get dragged out. Maybe it's because I don't have a fancy sequined blazer... ;)

Ya know. Implying that clubbing makes you a skank. Might be (is) offending to some. I know it's different for Mormons around there, where if you do it, you're often considered a "bad" kid. But here and I'm guessing anywhere in Europe clubbing is normal. We just do it differently. So I'm sure people there too know how to "club wisely". And be covered at the same time (and so do a lot of the other people too)

Oh I just love that blazer, it's so cool and classy at the same time! I think I need one....
