I love to eat food. I love trying new and different things as long as my meal isn't moving. But the one thing I can't eat is oatmeal because it's gross. I hate its texture, smell, everything. My only logic is Koreans don't eat oatmeal and I am Korean. (I'm actually not that Korean.)
(No picture of oatmeal will accompany this post...ever.)
What is the one food you can't stand?
Check out our past getting to know you posts.
i absolutely will never put a sardine or anchovy in my mouth. but oatmeal? i could eat it every day. with lots of brown sugar and cinnamon :-)
ReplyDeletei HATE pork! im not a big meat fan!!! green peas make me a little sick too... other than that, bring it on! :) first time on your blog! so happy I found it!
ReplyDeleteI actually like oatmeal and have it for breakfast almost every day. If there's one food I can't stand, I would have to say herring. I find both the texture and the taste disgusting.
ReplyDeletewohoo! First comment! I cannot stand goat cheese. The smell is horrific. I do, however, love oatmeal :)
ReplyDeleteBananas. It's a texture thing. Bleeeeeh.
ReplyDeleteI grew up eating oatmeal and I hated it! Then when I went on a dairy-free diet to see if it would help my baby stop throwing up, I started eating oatmeal every morning with vanilla almond milk, cinnamon and nutmeg, and ate that every single morning for 4 months. Wasn't too bad! And it's incredibly healthy! I'm back to doing that again, but simply more because it's so healthy, not for the taste!
ReplyDeleteAwww..I'm sorry to hear this! I absolutely LOVE oatmeal. I understand that everyone has their dislikes though. My boyfriend HATES onions and I am not a fan of sauerkraut. Maybe one day you can find an oatmeal dish that will suit your taste! Have a lovely Saturday. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually love oatmeal. I can't stand tofu, and shrimp. I hate the texture of them both, and just thinking about it is grossing me out. I will eat just about any other seafood though.
ReplyDeleteMy Heart Blogged
There are probably many that I haven't tried. I had a chance to sample brains once--calf brains, but couldn;t bring myself to stick my fork into it.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing my parents fixed that I couldn't stomach was liver. It usually came with a side of mashed potatos, so would try to encapsulate a piece of liver in the potatos to keep from tasting it--leaving it on my plate uneaten was NOT an option. I've never served liver to my kids. I hope that doesn't make me a bad parent.
I am such a picky eater but, I can't eat anything too spicy... it hurts :(
ReplyDeletePS - I'm not a fan of oatmeal either, but I can eat it. In fact, I usually keep a box of the instant, flavored oatmeal packets in our cabinet during the winter as sort of a last resort, we're snowed in, starving, emergency, food item. Thank goodness it's never gotten that bad. LOL!
ReplyDeleteBeans. Refried, kidney, lima, green, string, blech! Can't stand them. * gag *
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny! My roommate is Korean and the first time she saw me eating oatmeal, she said it reminded her of her grandmother because she used to eat oatmeal all the time.
ReplyDeleteOatmeal, oddly enough. I hate it, and it makes me gag.
ReplyDeleteI've never met anyone who despised oatmeal... :)
ReplyDeleteMy super-dislike is in the same family as oatmeal- grits. SO NASTY.
They are abominable.
So, I can't really think of anything I won't, or haven't, tried. The only thing I can barely stand is a tiny, dried fish that is a delicacy in the Philippines. It is called Bolinao - and it smells really bad! Other than that - I like everything - so far.
ReplyDeletePeaches!
ReplyDeleteLindsey Soup
The only food I detest and can't stomach even the smell of is mac and cheese. I will eat anything else, though!
ReplyDelete*gasp* I love oatmeal! Wow I can't really think of anything I'd never want to eat. Maybe like sea urchin or raw animal guts or something... I'd suppose that would totally gross me out. :)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous--I hate bananas too, for the texture. My husband makes me eat them, though. He says the potassium is good for me. So I make him eat avocados for the healthy fatty acids. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with the commenters who love oatmeal. We have it almost every day for breakfast.
LOVE oatmeal.. HATE liver.. no one should ever ingest liver... so foul.
ReplyDeleteI can not stand cranberry sauce. Why does it even exist? And it looks soooo gross when it comes out of the can!
ReplyDeleteMayonnaise. Except it's okay in things like potato/pasta salad. As long as there's not very much.
ReplyDeleteCooked egg yolk! Kk, but let me clarify and reveal all of my weirdness. I love scrambled eggs, omelettes, and other types of cooked egg yolk...but eating cooked egg yolk any other way (boiled, fried, etc.), it makes me want to barf! I know, I am weird.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, girl! I can't stand oatmeal either - or cottage cheese, or apple sauce, or anything else that looks like it has already been chewed up!
ReplyDeleteAw, I love oatmeal! I do. It's so good. I don't know why I love it so much.
ReplyDeleteI hate ketchup.
Funny because I was just looking for single-serve oatmeal at the grocery. I just wanted one spoonful, that's it.
ReplyDeleteDurian and Bamboo shoots. I think they both smell. Eek. I used to not be able to eat coconut milk-curried anything. But now, I've learned to like it. But bamboo shoots, man. I tell the servers at Chinese restaurants to make sure to exclude bamboo from my food because I'll know if they're there.
I ate eating any kind of noodle that is overcooked. Gross!
ReplyDeleteI love oatmeal but with lots of butter and brown sugar so don't have it often. The one thing I can't stand is meat. Just the idea of eating a hunk of muscle from a dead animal just makes my stomach turn. And if I attempt to eat it and hit a piece of fat or gristle, then I nearly throw up.
ReplyDeleteI love oatmeal... cooked in milk, mixed with applesauce, walnuts, and bananas ♥
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things I refuse to eat though... Liver, sardines, oysters, clams... baby animals, brains...
I cannot stand olives. :|
ReplyDeleteRaw onions and maraschino cherries. I gag, I gag!
ReplyDeleteAnd who thinks it's okay to ruin a perfectly good chocolate chip cookie or gooey brownie with walnuts. Un-American!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a quarter Korean and I hate oatmeal, too. That makes two of us, which validates your theory ;)
ReplyDeletebeans. holy hannah how i hate them. it's not the taste, but how they feel in my mouth. it literally makes me gag. not pretty
ReplyDeletehaha! i totally understand you! i try to eat it every now and then (since it's good for you), but i can never get past the first couple of bites.
ReplyDeletei hate meat with fat on it, the textures grosses me out sooo much
ReplyDeleteHmm, my mom and I (Korean and half-Korean) are both giant fans of oatmeal, so I reject this theory. :)
ReplyDeleteMushrooms. GAGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
ReplyDeletejellybeans & raisins. I cannot stand the texture of either!
ReplyDeleteJill, me too!! I hate jellybeans. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteI also hate oatmeal, but cooked spinach....urgh! Can't even think about it without gagging.

Are you eating plain oatmeal? Because I agree, plain oatmeal smells and tastes disgusting. Peaches and cream oatmeal is my favorite :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not a picky eater, I just eat almost everything. I think it's the fact Brazilian food is so tasty. But I don't like eggplant, some seafood, spicy food, moving things, urgh! BUt I do like all vegetable and everything else! (:
ReplyDeleteLarysse
Hot dogs. You cannot pay me to eat them.
ReplyDeleteI like to eat, so I can't complain too much, but speaking of Korean, I don't like kimchee! Do you???
ReplyDeleteMommy Chic
I cannot stand Olives. Or grits. Bluk.
ReplyDeleteI eat oatmeal EVERY morning but I cannot stand raw onions. oh my gosh yuck.
ReplyDeletei'm not a huge fan of oatmeal either but someone recently got me into the steel cut kind, which isn't as bad. but as far as food i cannot stand, it would definitely have to be bleu cheese dressing. the very smell just makes me lose my appetite.
ReplyDeletecute and little
OMG I don't like oatmeal either. Maybe it's an Asian thing? I am Chinese...but my boyfriend loves it and he's Chinese. So maybe it's a girl thing?
ReplyDeleteJust Better Together
come check out my giveaway
HAHAHA!! OMG you crack me up!!! I Love oatmeal! So much!
ReplyDeleteI hate hate hate. Green Olives. I am not sure I have even had one, but they look gross and creep me out!
xoxo
Mallory
Seafood and mushrooms. Barf. Barfbarfbarf.
ReplyDeleteI love oatmeal with brown sugar - but I can't stand Cilantro... unless its in guacamole, haha. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE oatmeal, but bananas make me want to die!
ReplyDeleteHmmnn.. I can't think of any because I pretty much eat anything and I'm like you.. love to eat!!
ReplyDeleteI just asked E what I don't like and he's a little stumped but two seconds later, he said - You don't eat/like Chips!
xoox,
ML
Hi! I enjoy your blog :) I am a japanese! haha I used to hate oatmeal! (I really hated it!) till I tried it with peanut butter! I am in love with it! so I think you should try..just once :)
ReplyDeleteI had to look "oatmeal" up in the dictionary, and now that I know what it is I remember how, as a child, I surprised my parent's by liking it while they both found it quite gross. Today I don't exactly like it anymore but I can eat it.
ReplyDeleteI do not eat anything meat or fish for ethical reasons, but when it comes to food I simply don't like, the first things coming to my mind are celery and fennel. I find the taste and smell of them totally yucky. I don't like beans and mushrooms either, but celery is worse.
JELLYFISH, some of our family friends took us out to a buffet so I decided to try it, the flavor was there, but the texture was like pure chewy fat in a casing,
ReplyDeletep.s., love the blog
aw no, oatmeal is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI can't eat lamb, i think that's pretty much the only thing. I'm quite unfussy!
Condiments! Mustard, mayo, ketchup, relish, etc. If the food is good, why ruin it adding condiments?
ReplyDeleteOatmeal...yummy. BUT, I totally get the texture thing.
Some oatmeal is great but seaweed is something i will NEVER try.
ReplyDeleteI do love oatmeal, but occasionally if I take too big of a bite I do get that gross-gag feeling!
ReplyDeleteThe one food I cannot stand is squash casserole! My mom used to make it all the time when I was little and I just HATE it! Needless to say I will not be asking her for that recipe, lol!
Since I now LOVE sushi I believe that I'm willing to give anything a try. Except fetal eggs. I recently caught and episode of An Idiot Abroad and there was a guy in China eating a hard boiled egg with a half grown chick inside of it. There is no way I could ever eat such a thing. In fact, I think I will have a hard time eating hard boiled eggs from now on.
ReplyDeleteNever ate oatmeal so I can't say anything, but the one food I totally cannot stand is some kind of sauce made of dried blood, eugh!
ReplyDeleteI HATE whipped cream. It's foamy nastiness.
ReplyDeleteI really don't like brussel sprouts--the smell, the texture, the taste. Yuck!!!!
ReplyDeletewe love oatmeal at my house! it's one of the only breakfasts my 1 year old son will eat. but i won't eat pork. or dairy.
ReplyDeletewww.yogaandpencilskirts.blogspot.com
Well me, I can eat possible everything, exception goes to olives. For me it's simply tasteless. Don't understand the whole point of it.
ReplyDeleteI only recently, like in the last year, started liking oatmeal! But I can only eat a specific brand/flavor, and there have to be fresh bananas involved :)
ReplyDeleteI really can't stand peas or celery. Gross.
Cheetos. Most chips as well, honestly (I'll only eat plain chips and plain nachos, and even then, I don't crave them), but just the thought of Cheesies makes me sick!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fussy eater... Milk grosses me out, as does meat. I'll eat practically any vegetables and fruit except CAULIFLOWER (ew), and I can't stand food that is spicy hot.
ReplyDeleteIf I even smell tunafish I get nauseous.
ReplyDeletegefilte fish. nuff said.
ReplyDeletehaha that's too funny! i can't stand oatmeal either. or yogurt. yuck!
ReplyDeletei was just eating some no bake cookies. (i didn't grow up eating them but my husband's family loves them!) and as i was eating the hot gooey things i thought to myself, this tastes like chocolate oatmeal. and my very next thought was, i wonder if you eat them! so, what's your take on oatmeal in cookies?
ReplyDeleterebecca, haha! That's sof unny you thought of me. I actually love oatmeal cookies as long as there are a lot of chocolate chips! I just don't like it wet and moist. Blegh.
ReplyDeleteYou're breaking my oatmeal lovin' heart Elaine! ;)
ReplyDeleteLobster, crab, and oysters. Sick sick sick. And I grew up in Massachusetts. Whups. At least I like salmon?
brussel sprouts. they look like gigantic boogers.
ReplyDeleteanna
the hummingbird haps
Wasabi....I makes me want to barf.
ReplyDeleteBananas.
ReplyDeleteGross.
Even the word tastes bad.
I really wish that I liked olives but I don't. I can't stand the mushy feel or the bland/bitter juices that leak out. I won't even eat them on pizza because I can taste the gross juice-ness. Um, ew. I really wish I liked them because they look cool and it would be super awesome to be able to buy frozen supreme pizza. Do you know how hard it is to find it without olives?! My life is obviously miserable because of this olives-and-pizza dilemma. Also, nachos.

The number one thing I can't eat is shaved coconut. I actually don't mind the flavor of it in any other form (coconut cream chocolates, for example), but it's the texture that gets me. I can detect the slightest bit of it, no matter how small. Once my mom bought store-brand chocolate chip cookies, and after eating a couple of bites I could swear there was coconut in them. Everyone thought I was crazy, but I looked at the ingredients, and sure enough, there it was! Another time, I unknowingly ate a sample at a store that had a lot of coconut in it, and I had to run to the bathroom to throw it up. Blech!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! I HATE oatmeal. I think it has the texture and flavor of wallpaper paste. Not that I've ever tasted wallpaper paste, but I'm willing to bet it tastes like oatmeal. I know slow cooked oats are a healthy breakfast, and I've tried them doctored up a million different ways and I still HATE it. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteI love oatmeal! Even the plain kind. Actually, I love food so there isn't much I don't like. But if I had to pick something i would be oysters and teriyaki sauce. Oysters look like snot---eeeew. I just don't like the taste of teriyaki, but I'm not sure why.
ReplyDeleteMandarin oranges. It feels like I'm chewing live goldfish!
ReplyDeleteI seriously read this post two days ago and I couldn't think of any foods that I disliked so I had to come back and post... I am so weird...
ReplyDeleteANYWAYS...
I will save you suffering by not post about my like and/or dislike for oatmeal since the last 100 people seem to have that part covered, but I will say that I have an extreme dislike for eggs. Seriously. Plan scrambled eggs make me want to barf.
I like oatmeal...when it's cold outside- microwaved really hot with milk and cinnammon...it is a little like congee...do Koreans eat that? You can put fruit in it too. Stuff I hate: beets...forced to eat them at camp and they stained the tuna noodle cassarole pink...herring- yeah, nutritious, but no thanks. I don't like sweet potatoes or mangoes either and they are both really nutritious.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah..I hate avocados too...I expected them to be so great and they remind me of palmolive bar soap..one of my friends made an excellent home made guac with fresh herbs, all hand-chopped..so I tried thm AGAIN and ..ick no good.
ReplyDeletemayo.
ReplyDeleteI love oatmeal. Cheap, easy, healthy, customizable, and delicious!
ReplyDeleteI cannot stand the thought of eating chitlins (animal intestines). Yuck! In general, I try to avoid eating animals and animal products.
I hate hate HATE artichokes. I think they are so disgusting. I've tried and tried eating them, but they're so sick. Then, when you get to the heart, you have to pull all that furry, fuzzy stuff off???? GA-ROSS!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate turnips. I think that when cooked it smells like cat pee.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh oatmeal is the ONLY thing I wont eat too, I'm not Korean but maybe I was supposed to be!
ReplyDelete
