If you can believe it, this is the same shirt I wore yesterday! What??? I'm so awesome?? I know. (Also, notice I didn't wrap my boobs as a present but wrapped my shirt at my waist. Please take note...) Totally broke one of my rules today... I HATE(d) long skirts/dresses with heels! It's just one of those things - I didn't understand why I didn't like it or what I didn't like about it but I knew I didn't like it...until today when I decided I hated all my flats. (Not true.) This won't be the last time you'll see this dress and these clogs together. Just sayin'.

Welcome to our bedroom AKA our living room. Our bed is not made because Chase left early for school today. I don't believe in making the bed unless guests are coming over. Here is my attempt at taking a detail shot at my attempt at layering necklaces. I obviously failed - it's not even in focus! It's hard when your $2 remote from China died after using it once...and then you threw it at the wall. And now it's in the trash.

I'm wearing a Gap shirt ($12), Forever 21 maxi dress ($5), Forever 21 necklace ($8), gold necklace ($5), secondhand choker necklace ($5), and Target clogs (gift from my in-laws).

  1. i like the button-down shirt over maxi dress combo! and i think i would even prefer it paired with heels as maxi dresses have a bad tendency to make petites look even smaller than they are. and nice work layering the necklaces again. me likey!!

    cute and little

  8. This reminds me I bought a maxi dress similar to this after you wrote the orig post about spending way too long at xxi to find another free item during their bogo sale! I bought the one in a thin sweater-knit fabric with pockets at the hip and a tie at the waist (which I will remove). So thanks for helping spend that $10 that was burning a hole in my pocket!

PS - what was the second item you got for free?

  12. I thought about tying a shirt like that, but I thought it didn't seem right. Probably because I am not brave enough to walk out of the house like that. But you make it seem more do-able.

  15. Love this maxi on you, Elaine! It fits SO perfectly. And great job on the shirt remix! I wouldn't have even thought it was the same one, until you pointed it out! I can't do the maxi thing... my 4'11" frame and not-so-skinny bod would get eaten alive! You look fab!

  16. One time I saw this awesome patterned item that I thought was a maxi dress but it turned out to be a jumpsuit. Unfortunately, the husband vetoed it right away...

Also, making the bed is for chumps!

  21. I just found your blog via Kendi ~ it's hilarious. You have great style and I love that you're so creatiev on a budget. I can relate to the remote ~ I've had 4 cordless phones meet similar fates. Cell phones are too expensive to throw at the wall. ~Susan

  23. I love it! I totally felt the same way about wearing heels with long skirts too. I think for me, it was because the last time maxi dresses were in, they were more casual and beachy. But, the maxi dresses, long skirts this season feel more refined and dressy so wearing with heels work!

  24. I had the opposite rule. My mom doesn't believe in long skirts and flats! I'm cool with either tho! :)

  25. What? How is that the same shirt? where did the huge bow go?
I like the dress, I don't know about you, but I would wear heels with a long dress because.... I'm short.

  26. You look so super cute! I love it. That's a really pretty combo. I can't pull of maxi dresses. I'm too... awkward? I dunno. But you pull it off easy.

  27. I am loving all the ways you've styled those clogs! Are they comfy? I have a hard time finding Target shoes that don't make my feet scream.

And my bed gets made every night right before I get in and mess it up again.

  28. You really are hilarious! I always chuckle when I read your blog posts. I would never say no to a little humour in my day.

You look lovely as always. The heels and long dress looks good on you.

  36. I especially love that last picture, Elaine. It's really... becoming? I don't really know what word to use but it definitely highlights the curve of your figure and looks... a little romantic? I suck at descriptions today, apparently!

  41. I love this look- I bought a maxi dress and a full length skirt and could only think of two ways to wear either! This totally opened up a whole new way for me to wear both items- limited wardrobes mean higher creativity!
