Much Clueless

Sunday, January 09, 2011
Are knee-high socks back in fash now? I guess so because I saw Sydney sporting them a few months ago and it has stuck since. I've tried it before but nixed it because I thought it looked too Clueless. (Still love that movie.) The only thing I didn't like about wearing these socks was I was warm everywhere EXCEPT my knees. Time to invest in some knee-pads. They're like leg warmers...but for your knees.

This skirt was one of my purchases back when. It was featured in my holiday packing post but I never wore it. Here is its debut! It totally hugs my bum. And by hug I mean it shows everything. Better stretch this baby out. (And by baby I mean the skirt, sickos.)

When I pick out an outfit, I usually have a specific item (or two) of clothing in mind. For this outfit, it was my skirt and shoes. I knew I needed tights because our church building is always freezing. I wanted to wear my fishnet tights but they were in the laundry bin so I thought I'd try the knee-high socks. As for the shirt, I was thinking stripes and this is the only fitted one I have. The sweater was to hide my big (Asian?) bum. No jewelry because we were late.. (I did it!)

There were these little nut things all over the ground and when Chase was adjusting our camera, I kicked some around. And the ONE TIME I missed, Chase caught it on camera. Seriously, if he had taken a picture a second before, you would all know I kicked a good one!!!!

  3. I think I tried that skirt on and it was just way too tight on me... Love the outfit. and knee highs are definitely in! I love them. Tip for the knees? Try thigh highs or ones that pull over the knee (this works with stretchy ones). Also I LOVE the third pic.

  5. Pretty outfit!

Knee high socks look good on you. (Even though your knees were cold!)

  6. This is the kind of thing where I need to know what I CAN and CANNOT do with knee-high socks. You look fantastic, but I would be scared to try this without some, even vague, parameters of what is not okay and what's the trend. Oy vey!

  7. Knee socks are definitely in style, and you rock them beautifully. Very cute with the chunky sandals.

  8. Looks great! I'm going to try this look. I have knee high socks, but also feel so 'Cher&Dion' so I haven't worn them. And it reminds me of wearing them all through private school.

I like all the different ways you've worn the Target clogs. I may have to breakdown and buy them. (Not that I need another pair of shoes.)

  14. I want to love knee socks. I bought myself a couple $2 pairs at Target. But I still just feel too dang old to wear them except under boots. Maybe some day...

    You rock them though.

  15. I don't see how it's possible that any part of you could be big. Shapely but definitely not big. I have recently lost some weight and now my bum no longer melts into my thighs. If you have a skirt that shows off your shapely assets I think you should go for it. Do it for Chase.

  16. What a great outfit. You look totally hip, chica, and I am so into those shoes/clogs. As for your candy ass, uh I mean Asian bum, you wear it well.

  17. I actually really like knee socks, though I haven't owned a pair since I was in elementary school. I think that needs to change soon!

I love this sweater! It looks warm and combined with the gray knee high socks, the whole outfit looks very cozy and comfy.

  18. So, to solve your cold knees, I suggest tights or nylons. Either, really. I usually do leggings over tights, but you can do them over skin-colored nylons for the bare leg look. I'm loving that sweater, though.

  21. Oh I so hope they are making a come back! I got some that go just over the knee for Christmas, but I keep pulling them down at that length. I saw them on Syd's blog too...that's why I asked for some ;)

  35. The knee highs are cute! And you have a cute bum, so you should totally show it off! (unless that's against LDS rules.. I dunno) But I totally know what you mean about annoyingly tight skirts.

I love this outfit. Okay. Maybe not the socks with the sandals (i'm still not jumping on that bandwagon yet) but the socks are cute, and the shoes are cute... I don't know about together. But you look awesome and you can totally rock it. :)

  39. They are adorable!
I always envy people who can wear high socks and keep them on! I've had them few years ago but they always ended up loose and I looked like wearing cheap too big socks!

  40. I really like this look, I think the drapey shape of the cardigan looks great over the slim cut of the pencil skirt. It almost gives a little bit of a peplum silhouette.

I recently started wearing taller socks too - I like to layer them over a pair of tights to mitigate the cold knees problem, and as a way to sneak another little bit of color into the outfit :)

  43. Really lovely outfit, I like the socks with the open toe heels :) To get over the knee's being cold issue, I normally wear tights then but the socks over the top :)

  44. I think I like knee-high socks more than the OTK ones..they really don't look good on my. And I really like them with your sandals (I know I've said it before, but I loooove those sandals so much!!). As for the skirt: I'm wearing a slightly tight (ok, way to tight skirt) right now, but it works fine with a longer cardi over. As long as you can see my bum, hehe!

    Lots of love,
    Diana

  71. I am 31 and I just feel silly in the knee socks. I look younger but I am 31, so I just felt weird. I just felt like it was a look that did not work on me. Looks super cute on you though.
