Today was the first day of my NEW job. (This is different from my other first day at my then-new job.) I'm the new account coordinator at Shopzilla. So if you want to sign up for a publisher account at Beso.com, I'm the one who's going to accept or reject you...so you better be nice to me or I'll take all the money from your account. (Not really.)

You guys are probably thinking I've been shamelessly promoting Beso and their publisher program.. And I have. Only because I appreciate their cost-per-click (CPC). Shopstyle pays you next to nothing for your clicks! I did some research online and have found several accounts of people saying they paid $.003 or something ridiculously low like that. On top of the low CPC, you have the $100 pay limit which takes forever to build up. Beso, on the other hand, pays you $.05 to $.11 per click and their pay limit is $50. You do the math. I use both. Please know this is MY blog and I promise all Beso content is for my BLOG only and NOT work-related. That's my promise to you. Promise. Besides that little bit, I really like my new job and work place. :)

So this is what I wore for my first day of work. I wasn't aware of the dress code so I wore a skirt...and was the only one. Not awkward at all on a first day.. You guys, I broke one of my rules... I wore like colors...again! I should just get rid of that rule altogether because I break it so much. Colored tights are still hard for me to style. But I've been itching to break the like-color rule and love how it turned out (again).

I'm wearing a JCPenney trenchcoat (free with gift card), Gap shirt ($12), JCPenney broach (free with gift card), Forever 21 skirt (gift from my sister-in-law), We Love Colors tights (courtesy of We Love Colors), JCPenney heels (free with gift card), and JCPenney bag (free with gift card).

congrats on your new job!! LOVE your flats and your coat soo much!! :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, they never got back to me about mine! Maybe you could check it out. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on surviving your first day! And who cares if you were the only one to wear a skirt - I bet you rocked it!
ReplyDeleteI love this whole ensemble - the mix of black, white and taupe, the different pinks, etc. So chic!
congratulations on your new job!! and i love those colored tights on you, even if it is wearing like colors together. i've been struggling wearing colored tights too, but you make it look so easy! :)

You look amazing, and congrats on your new job!! Good luck! and I love the tights.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to inch myself closer to breaking the rule of tights with open-toed shoes, but am not sure which open-toed shoes are absolute no-nos with tights. Urrrrg! Such a cute style, but I don't know if the shoes I have will really work.
ReplyDeleteYou're good at breaking rules and looking fantastic!!! I recommended my sister check your blog our for tips because she's getting back into fashion. I just love it here!
wow so classy!:)I love the style and cromatics!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! You look cute despite your crazy rule breaking. My first day at my first two jobs, I wore skirts. (Different skirts, maybe one was a dress...) Anyway, I wore something that was not a good idea when falling down stairs. Because I did. First day of both jobs. In a skirt. Or a dress. Can't remember, but remember that everyone saw my panties. And no one fired me. Stairs+Skirts: 2. Me: 0
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new gig! Sounds like fun! I'm fairly new to Shopzilla and beso and you've been soo helpful! THanks!! Is there a simpler/quicker way to link everything up?

Just Better Together
Congrats on the new job! You rock! And those tights and shoes look fab together... and also make me hungry for a smoothie or popsicle or something.
ReplyDeleteOkay, maybe I'm just a fattie.
White blouse, black skirt, and a trench--you can't get any more classic than that, and then you add some bubble gum pink tights and magenta heels?! Love it! :) Congrats on the new job! It sounds so much fun!
ReplyDeleteYou look a million! Good luck with your new job!
ReplyDeleteI think I have one of your posts about how to monetize your blog bookmarked - it's so useful! You're such a good resource for this kind of stuff, so thank you ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new job!! And your first day outfit is adorable - even if it kind of broke the rules. I would think wearing skirts at a job (especially a conservative but cute one) would be acceptable, but then again, I'm still a college student haha.

looking FABULOUSLY CHIC on your first day of work <3

Congratulations on the new job! I love your outfit and I am so happy I came across your blog! I am also into modest fashion, so your blog is amazing inspiration!
ReplyDeletewhoa i looks like i will be learning a lot from you in trying to get a mission wardrobe. serious. it is the most difficult thing ever. and i want that skirt!
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteOn the first hand, congrats on your new job, I started a new "real grown up" job 4 months ago myself, so I remember well how it feels - going there on the first day and not knowing the dress code. :D
And on the second hand I am terrible with colors on my tights. I somehow always go with black or flesh color tights. I guess I am not brave enough for colorful tights, ha ha! :D However you managed to do it very well and I love the trench as well. Over all this probably is one of my favorite outfits I have seen on you. I wish I would live in a country where it is not winter almost 9 months of the year, so I could wear trench coats and ballet flats more often! :D
Congratulations on the job! At least you stood out on your 1st day, right? :)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great first day! It's always hard what to wear on your first day ()I once went looking professional and everyone was in jeans!)
ReplyDeleteBut the skirt looks really good.
Love your working set. Simple and practical and so stylish!
ReplyDeleteI love all the colors you are wearing. And super-daring for the first day at a new job! Good luck and congrats on your new gig!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job! I love the similar colors. I think it works because the tights are so subtle... very classy :)
ReplyDeleteGo for it, Honey...the whole look is perfectt for a new job! ;-)
ReplyDeleteƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ
Congrats on the new job! I really love this outfit- you look very professional, but still add a little bit of "Elaine" to the look. Absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteyou did an amazing job with colored tights-love the look!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful on your first day of work! Congrats on the new job!
ReplyDeleteAnthea,
Embracing Style
Congrats on the new job! You looked very chic and sophisticated for your first day of work! I love the brooch!
ReplyDeleteYou look insanely cute. For your first day...what a classic working girl outfit. I could just oggle for a while. Right off of the big screen, you look. Love!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your newest job, sounds like it will be fun!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job!
ReplyDeleteI often find colored tights to look a bit startling and off-putting, but I love how they are a very very light version of your shoes - it adds a candy-like look which is so pretty with the simple black and white! Love!
Congrats on the new job, Elaine! Sounds like a great fit, and I always think it's a good idea to get more dressed up on the first day of work rather than looking too casual. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG - I have to have those purple shoes!! I'm ordering them TODAY!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new job. Where I work everyone wears blue jeans, tee shirts/sweatshirts and tennis shoes - like everyday! Sigh! I'm the glaring exception. You outfit is awesome! Love it.
ReplyDeleteTotal Blair Waldorf outfit, who I consider to be the fashion maven of my life.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to buy those tights.
And those shoes.
And the skirt.

Congratulations on the new job! You look fab. Your outfit is very preppy-ballet, which I lovelovelove. :) And I know what you mean about funny office dress codes, or lack thereof... I dressed up for my first few weeks of work, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, until a co-worker kindly told me, "Look, you don't have to dress up so much..." :P
ReplyDeleteLOVE the outfit, who cares if you were the only one in a skirt ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job, soooo exciting!!! :D

ReplyDeleteCarmen Ri.
impressive all around. and nice that i get to see you and learn about you from across the country. welcome aboard! -h
ReplyDeleteBeing completely honest, here: I appreciate your style!! I find that you have the same appeal that other fashion bloggers do even when you are CLOTHED MUCH!! :) I'm following!
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic. I'm trying (and failing) to get my own "personal style" at the moment. I end up giving up and spending all my time in jeans and a tshirt.
ReplyDeleteMaybe one day...! :-)
And by the way, thanks for showing that Mormon chicks can do kick-ass fashion too!
Congratulations! Hope you like it, and all of the free food =) Those tights are really cute. Btw, was everyone else wearing pants? So its casual?
ReplyDeleteBellesme
Hey, you managed to look professional, pretty and adorable (didn't know that was possible). But I'm sorry, the word "cute" did not spring to mind for this post. I'm sorry, but I have to be honest. =)

Congratulations! I love your first day at work outfit, be the one to start the skirt at the office trend! I have to get a white button down, it's at the top of my list for 2011.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job! As far as I'm concerned wearing a skirt and being the only one wearing one is the best way to start a new job. So lady like!
ReplyDeleteI love the silvertone flower pin!!! I would wear that so much if I had it. Great look!
ReplyDeleteErm..I think I'm in love with your trenchcoat! =.= Yea..I'm pretty sure.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so perfect on you.!
Where can I find this exact one? Is it by any specific brand at JCPenny? Please reply.
Anika, it's MNG by Mango brand at JCPenney. It doesn't look like they carry it online anymore but it's possible it could still be in stores!
