Stupid Rules!

Happy Halloween, guys!!!! This is my costume - I am a fashion blogger. Surprise... Chase and I aren't partying type of people...or dress-up people...or fun people. We're hoping our apartment building is on lock-down so we don't get kids at our door asking for candy. How about YOU give us your candy, kid?

Actually, this is what I wore on Thursday. Somehow I heard that it was going to be casual Thursday because of the Halloween parade so I wore jeans....and was the only one. I'm totally fired.

Recently, I've thrown all my fashion rules out the window. I've just decided I'm going to wear whatever I want and not listen to that voice inside my head telling me this or that doesn't go together. Whatever, Voice. Before, I would've never paired a shorter fitted top with skinny jeans. Or wear a loose cardigan over it all. Or wear hot pink sandals. (Those are actually new.) Your homework assignment for this week is to break all your rules and have fun. Isn't that the whole point of getting dressed every day?

A Businessly Casual LBD

First, thank you to my +2,000 Google followers!!!!!!! You may have noticed that I begged you guys on my Facebook and Twitter for someone to be my lucky 2,000th...and Kinsey saved the day. This is me doing a little dance. Not really. But it kind of looks like it.

This is the other belt I got from Fay. I love that it's wide. I don't have a lot of wide belts so it's a nice change from all the skinny belts I usually get. It's hard to see but this belt is gray with pink sequins. YES, more sequins. I'm obsessed.. I had a hard time figuring out what shoes to wear but I settled on gold heels to accentuate my hot legs and make them look longer.

Colorfully Wonderful

Day two of taking pictures in the early morn. It's actually not that early. But it's the earliest I've been up since high school...especially since I had to do early morning seminary.

How do you like my wonderfully colorful outfit today? I think this is the most color I've worn in my whole life...besides that one time I was a pink Power Ranger. That was awesome.

Here's a close up of my necklace. Just to reiterate I bought this necklace (on final sale) and another cheap-o necklace and used the latter metal chain for this pink necklace. That didn't make sense. Basically, I used two necklaces to make this one...and, basically, I'm horrible at explaining things...and telling jokes. Just ask Chase. I'm always the only one laughing.

Military and Lace

With my new job, I needed to figure out when to take my outfit pictures. By the time I get home it's dark and then I have to clean the house and feed my husband or something. So now I have to be a morning person.

We did get our remote from Hong Kong and just as I figured, it stopped working after a couple days. Luckily, my father-in-law brought us a new tripod while they were visiting this past weekend. He must be secretly reading my blog... (Hi!!)

I have a hard time styling dresses. Really all you can do is belt it, possibly cardigan it, and add some jewelry. I don't have a lot of belts, cardigans, or jewelry. So I layered. I got this lace belt (and another that you'll see in a couple of days) from Fay. She was so sweet and sent them to me as a little gift!! I just got around to wearing them because I had to take it in a little for them to fit at my waist. The belt is wide as you can see and the white and green felt unfinished. I layered the yellow ribbon over it and I love how it looks! This is probably one of my favorite outfits.

A Little Blue

I forgot to take a picture of what I wore to church on Sunday. We had Stake Conference. It's not an excuse - I'm just sayin'. But I did wear this to a friend's house afterward and it's kinda similar to what I wore earlier but not really.

I broke two of my rules for you guys. One, I wore like-colors together. Two, I wore baggy with baggy (again). It looks like the rebel in me is coming out...or I'm running out of clothes to wear...or my rules don't make sense. But I do like how this turned out...especially since we were running late and I just threw this on without thinking about my stupid rules.

In other news...Chase and I have a working T.V.!!! In the three years we've been married, we never had cable or even public T.V. channels. Our Utah apartment was in a bad location and we weren't going to pay for shows we can watch on Hulu. Now we're real Americans.

Family Time

This weekend some of Chase's family came by to see our new place and to make sure we haven't been robbed or shot. Kidding. Our area's pretty safe besides that fist fight we saw a couple nights ago by the bumpin' Asian club next door. It was really nice to see his family again. As you know, after our Philippines trip this past summer we stayed with Chase's parents until we got settled in L.A. We lived like babies...and it was awesome.

(Please note:  Though it may look like I am, I am NOT pregnant. I just ate a little too much, okay?)

I wanted a casual and comfortable look...and boyfriend jeans were key. Normally, I would go for the fitted-baggy combo and wear a fitted shirt with these jeans but sometimes it's fun to break your own rules...or I ran out of fitted-shirts to wear.

Grayday

I don't usually wear like-colors together but I really wanted to wear my new gray jacket from Edelweiss by Sarah. I was afraid it would be made of some cheap fleece material like this jacket but it's actually really well-made from wool. It's also dry-clean only...which means I'm NEVER washing this jacket.

I like this outfit in theory but I don't know if I like it on me. Maybe if I were 3" taller and had longer legs. Oh, well... At least Chase thinks I'm hot.

I bought this pink necklace because it reminded me of the Anthropologie and F21 necklaces but it came beaded in a strip of pink jersey fabric. Yeah, it was as ugly as it sounds. I bought another cheap necklace and used the metal chain instead of the jersey. Now I can wear it in public.

Working (It)

Today was my first day of work as a college grad... I HAVE A JOB!!!!!!! (Thank you, Jessica!!!) I'm not 9-to-5 material but if I was able to go to school full-time and work part-time for four years, I can probably work just full-time.

I've never had a job that had a dress code...like business casual, which is a problem because I don't have any work pants. I plan on rotating my 9 skirts and 8 dresses...over...and over...and over until I cave and have to buy work pants.

My favorite part about my outfit today was my scarf-belt version 2.0. I love my little bow! Lucky for you, this scarf is for sale here!!

Not a 70s Show

Last night, Jess and I went to a gallery and presentation for a few local artists and designers for L.A. Fashion Month. Sometimes I forget that I now live in a fashion-conscious city...and then I go to events like this and I'm so relieved I don't live in Utah anymore.

We got our pictures taken on the red carpet.. We're almost famous!! We wandered around Little Tokyo wishing the mochi shop was still open and ended up at a busy little ramen house. I wish I were the type to take pictures of my food but I'm usually done eating by the time I realize I should have.

I've learned by now that at all these fashion events, you should be dressed to the nines...like short cocktail dresses and break-your-ankle heels and heavy make-up. Next time I go out, you bet I'll be the next Asian Kim Kardashian. JKLOL. No... no LOL.

I recently received this vintage blouse I won from Raleigh Vintage. I love the print and the tie-neck. What I didn't love was its boxiness, padded shoulders, and too-short long-sleeves. Being the creative genius that I am, I took the blouse in from the back, removed the pads, and chopped off the sleeves.

The sleeves were the tricky part. I didn't like that they were loose and flowy after I snipped them. I wanted defined sleeves. After a lot of cursing and re-picking seam after seam, I finally got it. Usually I would throw it into the scraps bin and forget about it but I didn't because I'm awesome. The button has no functional purpose. It's there to hide my mistakes.
