Florals in the Wind

Sunday, January 31, 2010
Thank you for all your comments and suggestions! It seemed like there were two sides:  (1) if you didn't like or feel good about your outfit, you didn't post it or (2) you posted it anyway as a learning experience. For me, I don't post it if I don't feel good about it when first putting the outfit on. A few of you have mentioned figuring out what is wrong with it first and then fixing it the next time you wear a similar outfit, which I think is a great idea.

The outfit from my last post made me feel frumpy and disheveled by the end of the day instead of feeling put together like I did in the morning. I felt great in my outfit from today but the picture didn't quite document that and that's okay. (I wish I had fixed my shirt first.)

Is it weird if I wore this floral skirt again tomorrow? I just love it so much!

Good, Not Great

Saturday, January 30, 2010
I don't know if I really like this outfit... It's one of those outfits you put on in the morning and you feel great but as the day goes on you don't feel good in it anymore. I think that's why I haven't really been posting outfits this week. I like to post outfits that I am proud of and this? ..not so much. Are there any other bloggers who feel like that? And if you do, do you still post your outfit? or skip?

This outfit isn't much to look at but this week has been rather slow and tiring for some reason and my outfit choices have reflected that. This was the most picture worthy though!

Pink Me

Tuesday, January 26, 2010
I totally loved what I wore today. But it didn't show in the pictures. My face has been doing weird things with the camera lately... Mucho thanks to Meg for generously donating this shirt and a couple more items that will be shown later!!!! I don't consider myself a pink person but I love the stripes and that it's stretchy. The few button-downs that I have feel too stiff for me so this was a nice change.

3 Hour Work Day

Friday, January 22, 2010
I am still sick from yesterday. I felt a little better this morning and decided to go to work. It's not like I do anything strenuous - I'm in front of a computer all day! But I work with a couple of doctors and nurses and one caught me. She told me to go home. But before I left, I had to get an outfit picture! After lounging around in yoga pants and a tshirt all of yesterday, I wanted to wear a skirt.

Thank you for all your lovely comments on my bridal picture! If you thought I was exaggerating about my booty, now you know the truth! Also, a few of you asked for more wedding pictures. I will make to sure to post some tomorrow!

Q&A

clothes stuff

What is your favorite store to shop at? - Crystal Escobar
I love Uptown Cheapskate for financial reasons but if money was no object, I'd frequent The Gap.

What is your favorite item of clothing and why? - FashionJazz
Right now, they are my Tsubo boots. They are leather, comfy, and waterproof! That is all I wore on our trips to Boston and New York and my feet didn't hurt one bit!

modest lds fashion blog clothed much salt lake city utah mormon modesty style outfit outfits clothes clothing blogger wedding ring
What is your favorite item with your own? (Not necessarily clothes wise... just anything - SE
Did you mean my favorite item that I own? If so... it would have to be my wedding rings. I LOVE them! Of course, I picked them out... ;) My band is custom made so I know for sure that no one has the same one as me!

If you have to wear only one brand of shoes for the rest of your life, what would it be? - Nadia Kamballa
I wish I could be hip and cool and name some designer shoe brand but I actually like Nine West a lot.

What is your favorite style trend of the moment? Least favorite? - City Girl Chicago
My favorite trend is ruffles! I don't have a lot in my closet but it's so feminine and cute and looks great on just about any piece of clothing. My least favorite is the whole Balmain trend. It looks good on other people but it is just not me.

What's your favorite color to wear? Least favorite? - Jesslyn
My favorite color would have to be gray. Whenever I go shopping, I am immediately drawn to it. My least favorite are brown and purple. I don't think they look good on me..

modest stuff

How do you define modest dressing, and why is it important to you? - What Would a Nerd Wear
Everyone has different takes on modesty. It is subjective, really. To me, modest is covering your shoulders, no back exposure, no cleavage, no buttcrack, and covering your thighs. You won't see me in anything strapless, with spaghetti-straps, short-shorts, or short skirts. I would be very uncomfortable. I find it important because I know I respect my body and that I don't have to flaunt it to everyone to show that I have style or fashion sense. I want the world to see me as who I am, not my physical body.

How do you keep your modest fashion from getting stale/rote? - alltumbledown
This is a great question! To me, modest fashion isn't so different from regular fashion. I find inspiration in street style and fashion blogs and try to modify them to match my values and beliefs. I don't know how well I'm succeeding with it but it's always fun to try new things!

blogging stuff

Why did you start blogging? - xo, Alexi
I started my blog because I realized a lot of bloggers out there kind of had the same style. I didn't see anything that really stuck out to me and wanted to pave the way for modest fashion bloggers.

Have you ever felt embarrassed to say that you have a blog? - xo, Alexi
YES! I didn't tell my friends and family I had one at first.... I still don't like to talk about it!

Where do you draw your inspirations from? - xo, Alexi
Fashion blogs, chictopia, and street style.

And if you could choose anyone, which fashion blogger would you like to meet? - xo, Alexi
I would love to meet the woman behind What Would a Nerd Wear! She is so nice and personable and I love her style!!

What's your favorite part about fashion blogging? - megara
I love getting ideas from other bloggers. There are so many creative people out there!! I also love meeting new people. It is amazing how many great friends I have made already. I just wish I lived closer to you all!

personal stuff

What is your life's dream? - Lianne
My life's dream is to be happy and to succeed in whatever I do in life!

What's your idea of a perfect day? - Hillary
I actually did a little interview with Meg from freshbrownies and answered that same question for her, so you'll have to wait for that one! ;)

What's your biggest little pleasure? - Charmalade
Sudoku! I like to do it before bed to mentally unwind. I know.. I'm a geek!

When are you planning on having a baby? - LeahCrystal Escobar
When I am physically and mentally ready...but to be more time-specific, some time after graduation.. We'll see!

How long have you been married? - Crystal Escobar
2 years and 4 months!

How long have you been living in the states? - .:JoaNNa:.
19 years. My family and I immigrated to the states when I was 3.

Do you go back to Korea often? - .:JoaNNa:.
I've been back 4 times already so... not really. I wish!

What's your current dream? - janet
To be done with school forever!!! and pay off all our school debt...

Where do you plan to live after college? - Style Artisan
We don't have a plan yet. We are up for anything though! We love change.

When does your husband graduate? - Style Artisan
This semester. We'll be graduating together!

How tall are you? - ANA
I am 5'3"...not very tall but I love that I can still wear heels and be shorter than my husband.

Are you in Utah for good? - Jeje
No!! My husband is from the west and I am from the east, so naturally we love both coasts! We're hoping to stick with one of them later on.

What would be your dream job? What would you be doing right now if you didn't have your blog? - Vicki
To be quite honest, I've never been career-driven. I would be very satisfied if I were a stay-at-home mom. If I didn't have my blog, I'd probably clean my house more, exercise, and maybe get another job. But let's be honest...who wants to do that when you can blog instead?!?

What's a guilty pleasure of yours? - xo, Alexi
Cuddling in the morning with my husband and skipping class!

modest lds fashion blog clothed much salt lake city utah mormon modesty style outfit outfits clothes clothing blogger wedding dressWhat did your wedding dress look like and how did you pick it? - Jesslyn
Here is a quick pic of me in my wedding dress... It is pretty simple - it has a beaded waistband and a square neck line. I loved it! I would probably choose something different today just because my tastes are always changing. When I was dress shopping, I actually picked out another dress and had seen this one when I was getting my first dress altered. I changed my mind on the spot and got this one instead! Good thing because it was a lot cheaper. P.S. I still have it and it is for sale if anyone wants it!!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? - Jesslyn
Graduated with my B.A. under my belt taking care of a couple of cute babies! Mine, of course!!!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? - Jen
I would love to live in San Francisco!! We'll see if that happens any time soon...

Are you applying to grad school or is your husband or both? If you do go to grad school, what are you thinking of going for? - anotherfishinthesea
It is my husband who is applying to graduate school. Not me!! I am done with school after this!

This was so fun! Thank you to everyone who submitted their questions! It was pretty convenient because I was sick all night and today so I wasn't able to get an outfit picture. Hopefully, I'll be able to post one tomorrow!

Ruuuched!

Wednesday, January 20, 2010
Yuck, I look and felt super tired in this picture! Good thing I get to sleep in tomorrow!! ;) I got this cardigan because of the ruching?rucheing? on the upper arms. It cleverly conceals my arm flab.. I'm starting to think it is too long for my petite body so I may have to wear it tucked into skirts or something... We'll see!

Oh, So Sketchy..

Tuesday, January 19, 2010
This is my "new" dress! What do you think? The color is like a brown/gray. It differs with the light - I know, weird. But I like it! It looks like someone got some white paint and painted strokes throughout. I actually don't like it with the boots but it was raining/snowing today so I had to wear them. I'll have to wear them for the next two days as well.

Anyway, I am itching for some new colored tights. I just found a hole in this one! :( What colors have you been wearing often? I want to buy something I'll be able to remix with many outfits, not just a few.. so I'd like your input!

Party All Weekend

Sunday, January 17, 2010
'Okay, so I didn't exactly party all weekend... But I was definitely busy! I had almost no time to myself this weekend. On Friday night we went to a party of a friend of a friend. ...Did you get that?? ;) And then on Saturday, I had a makeup photoshoot with a dear friend of mine in Provo and it was so much fun! I haven't seen the pictures yet so I am so anxious to see them!

Last night, we had a blind double date with a fellow Salt Lake blogger. But here is the real story.... We were supposed to meet at a restaurant that used to be at the mall but it had apparently closed down...except we didn't know that until we got there. We had also taken the light rail because we're awesome...but after realizing the restaurant had closed, we had to find a way to get home (bus) and drive to its second location. So by the time we got to the restaurant, we were 40 minutes late!! Talk about a bad first impression.. Thank goodness, they didn't leave and waited for us! But it was the perfect blind double date! We ended up talking for three hours!! I was surprised the restaurant didn't kick us out.

Sorry...there is no outfit shot sans coat! It was too cold and we didn't have a lot of time. At least my neck was warm (holy scarf!)....and my legs. (I wore nude tights underneath!)

I feel like I've been doing great coming up with new outfits since I've been home and then I see this and I don't feel it. It doesn't go with the rest. I'm not really sure if I like it or not. I'm leaning towards like but there has to be a few changes...not sure what yet. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

White Out

Wednesday, January 13, 2010
I kind of planned this last night but not really. It was more like "Ehh, I'll just wear this and this and figure it out tomorrow morning." Which I did! This never happens to me! And I actually like it. I can never find good ways to wear this jacket so I'm proud of myself for it! And I'm still in love with this coat.

A few of you have asked about my puke-pink-purple bag. Yeah, that is the color I identified it as and I still bought it! I got it at Wilmington, Delaware at a shoe store called MJM for $20 - the most I spent on any bag! Yup, I'm just cheap like that. The brand is Mondani New York. Not sure if it's legit or not. I was actually going through my closet to find things to trade in to Uptown Cheapskate and I saw that I haven't used it in over a year. But I realized it could fit my books, lunch, and water bottle more comfortably than my Gucci bag. So now it is here to stay! :)

Remember this post? Well, I've finally found my perfect winter coat!! I bought it in Boston at a secondhand store on Newbury St. The zipper was broken but my husband and I were able to fix it. It is just as warm as my big puffy black one and it is half as puffy and it is more flattering when I zip it all the way up = good news for me!

Okay, I need to go work out and lose those LBs I gained from the holidays. I suggest Jillian Michaels' No More Trouble Zones work-out. It is HARD! I cry every time.

Another New Year's resolution that I am determined to keep:
Besides this blog, all I do is go to school and work. But at the present time, both make me unhappy. My husband and I both suspect it has sprouted some starts of depression too. But this will be my last semester and I couldn't be more overjoyed! My new resolution is to see the joy in these simple and mundane things because I can easily spiral into an unhappy state or I can turn lemons into lemonade. You're probably wondering why I am doing this when it's making me unhappy. I was only 2 class shy of graduating with a political science degree and I guess I am more of a practical thinker and decided to suck it up and just do it! There's been a lot of tears and Whys but I know I'd regret not getting a degree years later. And it's a just-in-case-something-happens-to-my-husband-and-he-can't-work safety net. Although a polisci degree is pretty useless unless coupled with a law or master degree.

Also, Anonymous readers can now comment! But be warned - if you're a hater, your comment will be deleted. Constructive criticism is fine, just don't be mean! I am self-conscious and have feelings just like every other woman.
