The problem is....I don't have any sneakers. I have two pairs of running sneakers, a pair of trailing sneakers, and a pair of walking sneakers. Like I said....I don't have any sneakers. The reason I say that is because I will NEVER wear athletic sneakers as regular attire. NEVER! Dramatic, much? YES!!!
So it made me think...why don't I have any "fashion" sneakers? Because I don't like pairing casual and dressy together. I've been doing better about breaking that rule but I think athletic sneakers are too casual for me. I went "shopping" last night and picked out a few or eight that I wouldn't mind having for traveling or chasing my imaginary kids.
Check out the gold sneaks among all the black! I'm so cool. I'm leaning towards these shoes because they look like they'll almost fit my wide feet.
Ooh, I have Puma's as "fashion sneaker". I love that they are slim and don't make my feet look like boats. :)
ReplyDeletei invested in some sneakers a couple years ago when i found out that i would be going to NY and doing a lot of walking. I found some really nice Pumas that did the trick. i actually need to dig them out of storage and use them more as they haven't gotten much wear after that trip. i don't really pair dressy and athletic looks together either but will have to figure out something!
ReplyDeletecuteandlittle.com
I have 3 pairs of non-athletic sneakers that I wear pretty regularly--A pair of red Converse All Stars, a pair of yellow Converse All Stars, and a pair of red and blue Asics Tigers. They are iconic, comfortable, and versatile. I've worn the yellow Converse with skirts, dresses, and shorts on weekends and nights out, and they always get compliments. Take a risk! Go bold. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd here's proof: Looks & Books
I am an athletic girl so I wear lots of "sneakers" (I never wear my trailrunners or running shoes with regular clothes). I love Tiger Onitsuka sneakers that I wear with tees and slim jeans and Converse Jack Purcells and lowtop Chuck Taylors are fun too. All come in tons of colors so they can make an outfit seem cute and sporty...and works great for travel, chasing kids if you have them and manual labor :)
ReplyDeleteSorry I have no links as I don't have a fashion blog...yet
I feel the same way about sneakers! It is so hard for me to wear them unless I am working out. But these are all really cute! By the way, everything at puma.com is 40% off with free shipping right now, if anyone cares (no, I don't work for them, but they should pay me).
ReplyDelete<3 Kali
I know exactly what you're talking about. I have a few pairs of "dress" sneakers that are Pumas or Onitsukas, but hardly ever wear them. But I've found those are best for "manual labor" days.
ReplyDeleteI think white sneakers (like dance shoes) are meant for a specific purpose and look odd out of context.

Fair warning, Pumas have no arch support so if you are flat footed they become really uncomfortable after time. I recommend Tretorn..very comfy and always classic.

oh man. you wanna talk sneaks? Lets have a chat sometime since you know my hubz works for a sneaker company. have you checked out creative rec?? they have cute girl sneakers. i especially like their "essentials" line that has like a vans or keds feel to them (both of which i also enjoy). low profile, light and cute. you know we could hook you up! also I don't know if you would count TOMS as sneakers but i do. they are darn cute, super comf, and you feel good when you buy a pair. ALSO, i just picked up cuuuttteee pair of keep sneakers this weekend. check out the "dorian" in honey. i love the menswear vibe with the big tongue. i also just got a pair of ugg sneaks (given to me randomly) - their converse equivalent is actually really cute and super comfy. plus theres a little bit of sherpa lining which is nice. ok i could go for days but ill stop now... :)

I've worn my tennis shoes (not sure there really 'sneakers') here:

Um, Kari... You're awesome. I'll definitely be pulling you aside on Sunday!!! This is serious business.
ReplyDeleteI have a dreadful soft spot for Keds, but they're no good for your feet. If you're looking for something that offers great support (but, sadly, is really pricey), definitely check out Ecco shoes. However, if you're looking for something more reasonably priced, New Balance has some fabulous shoes (and not just for sports), and I know they offer a lot of width options and a lot of their shoes have excellent support. I like the pumas you picked out, though. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm not sure exactly how new this is, but I ADORE your new banner! It's so cute and clean.
I gotta say, I'm really a huge fan of sneakers, especially those that are higher and all hop hop style ... love them
ReplyDeleteI could wear them all the time ...
http://urbanprettygirl.blogspot.com/
im serious about my footwear. seriously. its like. a problem. hoon is also afflicted so we're like this sick couple with an addiction to footwear. i will chat with you any time day or night! also, look at CR stuff for chase! their mens offerings are really nice!
ReplyDeleteI am sneaker-less, sniffle! I love the ones you found, maybe I will ask Santa for a pair to work out in, then I guess I will feel pressured to work out!
ReplyDeletebesos,lynn
I think you can't go past chuck taylors. They're super comfy, you can throw them in the washing machine if they get too dirty, they go with everything, even skirts. plain white are my favourite. I also think you can get away wearing oxfords/brogues as casual shoes with jeans to do "manual labour" as long as they're comfortable.
ReplyDeletehttp://katemontgom.blogspot.com
I don't have any outfit links of them but when Puma came out with their slim, wrestling-shoe inspired sneakers (and revolutionized the "dressy sneaker:!) I jumped all over them. Bought 4 pair, have two left that I wear around the house a lot and on road trips, occasionally on a quick trip to the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, I can't wear sneakers with dressy. I have one pair of athletic sneakers that I tried on in the store and haven't ever worn. How sad is that?
ReplyDeleteI love wearing fashion sneakers! I have been a devoted fan of Chuck Taylors but recently switched over to the Chuck Taylor All Star Lights... http://www.converse.com/#/products/Shoes/ChuckTaylor/505620F
ReplyDeleteThey look cute with my skinny and straight jeans without making my feet look clunky. They're like wearing a more "street" version of Keds!
-Sarah
The only time you'll find me in a "sneaker" is when I hit the gym. Other than that.. I have a pair of Chucks that I would consider my "fashion sneaker". :D
ReplyDeletexx Love & Aloha
get these. they are so cute! or some converse!

I don't have a pic yet in my sneakers...but here is a link for the ones I bought a few months ago. They are so comfy and are super cute!

I wear converse all the time. I also like some of the bright options that are out there.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever worn sneakers in my fashion posts. I used to have a pair of fake Converses that I'll have to dig up at my mom's place. Since I wear mostly dresses and skirts, I haven't really found a way to incorporate them to my style (yet).

I don't....I haven't been able to cross that barrier either, but these are pretty cute!
ReplyDeleteI have pretty wide feet and I really like adidas (shopadidas.com). They have super cute fashion shoes. I have these {http://www.shopadidas.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3264940} and these {http://www.shopadidas.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4001011} which look cute with jeans. The second pair look cute with skirts and shorts too! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLeah, I LOVE the second pair!! THanks so much for the links!!
ReplyDeletei dont usually wear sneakers. i have like 3 pairs of converse that i'll occasionally wear, 2 pairs of vans, and then 1 pair of athletic sneakers if i ever feel like working out (which is never). i'll wear my vans or converse if i'm just wearing jeans and a tshirt and i'm feeling kind of scrubby haha.
ReplyDeletei don't have any pictures of me wearing sneakers because...i don't know how to wear them. but i do have a pair of rocket dogs that my husband loves when i wear them...i would definitely consider them "fashion" sneakers...plus their pretty comfortable. i think they're brown and orange with a little teal. i know, i'm super fashionable.
ReplyDeleteI wear the classic low top converse, but lately I haven't been wearing them too often. I think I need to pull them out again.
ReplyDeleteI also have a pair of running shoes, that I use on those rare occasions that I go to the gym. I also have a pair of SUPER old basketball shoes (5 years old?) that I bring with me when I head up to Nevada during the show season.
Please share when you figure out how to pair dressy with sneakers. I'd love to learn.
Just Better Together
You need to get a pair of converse low tops or keds champions. :) They are comfy, cute, but still stylish. ^__^
ReplyDeleteI'm not such a fan of sneakers, even though I've got some. I've got a pair of white ones with a fish pattern on it. I bought them when I was quite obessed with things reminding me of the sea and didn't care they were sneakers - I just wanted something with that pattern on it. I still wear them during the warmer season but I don't have a picture where you can see them properly. And I've got a rather old and chunky pair of plain black ones which I wear when the weather is nasty. They're visible on some of my pictures but I don't think I wanna draw special attention to those - and I'm pretty sure you don't wanna seek inspiration in them! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI loved your post! I would NEVER wear sneakers as day wear. They are strictly for sports, hikes, walks, and working out. And even then, I'd rather wear a cute flat shoe. The closest thing I've come to wearing comfy lace up flat shoes with my casual wear is Clarks Wallabees, right here.
ReplyDeletehttp://annaofgreengables.blogspot.com/2010/12/wardrobe-sunday-afternoon.html
Even then, they still say preppy, fashion-conscious, purposeful. I just moved to a new town that is super-casual, and I confess, I;m having a hard time adapting. I love wearing pretty dresses and fancy shoes.
xo, Anna of Green Gable
I guess it's different for men. I put on a black pair of Rockports and most people don;t even notice I'm not wearing dress shoes.
ReplyDeleteI think all of those are really cute. I really want a pair of pumas, but right now I have to be content with my navy blue Converse. Jessica over a What I Wore does a great job of styling Converse and making them more classy and dressy. Maybe you could look into some printed or sequin Converse?
ReplyDeleteHaha, sorry Elaine!
ReplyDeleteBut gasp! You don't have any fashion tennis shoes?!?! That's awful! I think I once had 7 pairs in various styles and colors. I'm know down to 3 converses (in purple, red and black)and some blue 'roos (http://www.kangaroos.com/). You could also get some Clark's wallabees: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WCQ618/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0007MULPK&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=16M7JTAQY8XVA50QQR0M
Most expensive shoes I've bought at $90 but are so comfortable and have lasted for 7 years and are still going strong.
Apparently I like shoes named after Australian mammals.
nordstrom rack. best place for "fashion" sneakers that are cute and comfortable! good luck.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a pair of Pumas.
ReplyDeleteI usually go for All-Stars. Of course, mine are 2 years old and falling apart, so they're more of a super casual thing than a nice-casual. But I love them. The only problem is that they're quite narrow and don't really have any arch support at all. I keep telling myself I'm going to buy some insoles for them one of these days.
And Vans. They've got some in a variety of styles and colors that I've really been wanting to buy. They might be too casual though.
ReplyDeletecan't help ya here... i literally own 1 pair and they have seen the light of day exactly 4 times in the last 6 yrs... because i am vain about shoes... and i didn't even buy them! (my hubby thought i might want to go running... Bwahahahahah!) if i had to choose, go metalic all the way... but i always say a flat is as good as a sneaker... i wouldn't know what to do if i HAD to buy/wear them...
ReplyDeletewow, i sound super vain... ;)
maybe try sequined converse? you love sequins!
~selina
I pretty much feel the exact same way that you do about sneakers. I have a pair of converse that pretty much cover all my sneaker needs.
ReplyDeleteI don't like sneakers much but these are cute! especially the Puma racers!
ReplyDeletehere's my late offering. today i wore these sneaks because they worked with my outfit and i was running errands with the whole fam damily. and, i plan on wearing them to disneyland in feb. they look a billion times better out an about than my actual running sneaks, complete with black sequins.
ReplyDeletehttp://heidiluxe.blogspot.com/2010/12/suburban-commando.html
Hm. No I am like you in that I don't wear sneakers unless I'm walking the dog, strolling, or hiking (aka any form of exercise). This means that I have never owned a pair of converse in my life (and hopefully never will!!). I have considered fancy sneakers like ones by Coach (they're cheaper at discount stores), but I can't think of what I'd wear with them. The closest I'd get to "sneakers" would be...um...black leather laced shoes that resemble oxfords. Yep. I'm traditional like that.
