Shrunken pants? Small blazer? I promise I am not wearing a little boy's suit.. But if I were, I'd still look hot. Maybe. Probably. Yes. What?

I was inspired by The Sartorialist for this look. I can see now that it was from his men's fashion. I added the hat and flower to make sure people knew I was a girl. But I didn't end up wearing it at work because it's weird to wear a hat inside. At least I wasn't called "sir". Mission accomplished.

Guess what was going through my mind the whole day I was wearing this... "Fat guy in a little coat..." If you can't name that movie, we probably shouldn't be friends.
I'm wearing a Forever 21 hat ($4), Wanderlustings headband (won from a giveaway sponsored by Wanderlustings), thrifted boy's blazer ($3), reworked vintage blouse (won from a giveaway sponsored by Raleigh Vintage), J Brand jeans ($158), and MIA brogues ($43).

Ack! This is so amazing! I love white button ups on everyone and then I remember that I don't own one and get sad.
ReplyDeleteAlso, now I'll be replaying that scene over and over again in my mind - I think I need to watch it immediately.
THIS outfit I love. So different and chic from your other looks. I need some of those black oxfords to wear with my black skinny jeans now.
ReplyDeleteThe Auspicious Life
The blouse makes you look like a girl and makes it mens-wear inspired, instead of just manly. You almost have me convinced to invest in some J Brand Jeans.
ReplyDeleteyou don't look masculine! perfect ensemble.
ReplyDeletei adore this look, it looks really flattering on you and that flower is the bees knees.
ReplyDeleteyou look stunning!
ReplyDeleteadorable. love it--you pull it off perfectly.

p.s. tommy boy. hi. bff.
I think the hat and the polka dot shirt with the pussy-bow ascot are very feminine! They totally balance out the menswear suit. Plus, menswear on women is always hot. :)
ReplyDeletethe hat is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteyou dont look like a little boy at all, love it!

Yup, you look great.
ReplyDeleteA word about hats: I wear all the time at work because I am single-handedly bringing the hat back. Also, it's supposedly acceptable for women to wear hats indoors, while it is not for men! Yay for us!
sweet.
ReplyDeleteThis look is great! I love menswear inspired looks, and you pull it off well. I need a pair of brogues...pronto!
ReplyDeleteThat hat is amazing--can't believe it was only $4! You seriously make everything you wear look expensive. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun outfit! I think it's the perfect mix of feminine and masculine. Heels would work too...like the mary jane style you never wear. ;)
ReplyDeleteHehe, it looks okay Elaine. I like this ensemble especially the blouse, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI really love women is menswear-inspired clothing and you look fab! I think this is proof that you can pull off anything.

I think the outfit is great!
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic.
I am as yet not brave enough to wear anything menswear-inspired (I too fear being mistaken for a boy).
(Also teeheehee, "fat guy in a little coat...". I need to watch that movie again.
Hey Elaine! I mean Tommy, I mean Elaine! :P Your post was really funny! I love how you look in this outfit- it's really cute and chic. I like the finishing touch of the little flower, too- the hat with the rest of the look is kind of masculine-chic meets vintagey girly girl.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting me!! :D I'm glad you liked the faux fur wrap, too. I hope you'll be able to stop by again! :)

I like it so much, and I don't think it's too man-like. Tthe girly hat that you added here is just the right accesorie.
ReplyDeletei'm loving the simplicity of this outfit! you have great style! x
ReplyDeletei like it! i have this old horse show coat that i keep trying on and thinking, 'does it work as a blazer or is everyone going to think i'm being weird?' this inspired me...cause it works on you.

I love this look. Menswear looks are my favorite. This is very feminine Thom Browne. I hear that he's making ladies' suits now, and he should totally take tips from you.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for a similar look my last four or five thrifting trips. You don't look like a boy at all. Even without the hat you look amazing.

Love the Chris Farley reference! We've watched Black Sheep, Tommy Boy, and Beverly Hills Ninja so many times I can quote them. My parents own the SNL Best of Chris Farley, too. :) (Does that mean we can be friends?)
ReplyDeleteI love, Love, LOVE your little boy suit. The tie-neck blouse and ankle pants are the key feminine touches that make it perfect. (In my opinion)

This is such an adorable look on you! Love the feminine touches too. Fat guy in a little coat...great movie! I watched his SNL specials over Thanksgiving, it's still so sad.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what many have said before me. You look amazing here. Like a model. but real. :D. and the monochromatic androgenous look suits you.

I LOVE that shirt so much that I actually bought the one from Dillard's that is similar. It was on sale and I had a gift card! Hopefully it is the start to me not being afraid to wear certain things that I want to :)
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy that we sort of wore similar things. I recently wore a hat, cuffed pants, and oxford flats :) I love this look, especially the fact that at first glance it really does look like a suit. I may have to try something similar soon. Glad to know it's possible to dress androgynous without looking like a boy.
ReplyDeleteSarah Jane R.
Tommy Boy! Even if this was inspired by men's fashion, I really love the look. But then again, I've always kinda like androgynous looks. And you pull it off and make it look feminine.
ReplyDeleteLoving your look here. The skinny cut works (very 60s menswear) but the accessories keep it cute. Mission accomplished indeed.
