Christmas is on a Saturday

Merry Christmas!! Today's a Saturday and you know what that means... It's time to get to know each other! To keep the spirit of Christmas, I thought we should center the question today on presents...obvi. What is the best present you gave to somebody today? Chase and I got my sister-in-law a necklace with her kids' initials on it. I thought I was the bomb-diggity when she opened it. (Yes, I just used the word bomb-diggity. Isn't that so 90s?) We also got my other sister-in-law a temple recommend holder to help her obtain her goal of getting to the templeWhat about you? What present(s) were you excited to give today?

  1. Oh wow, the necklace sounds lovely - what a great idea!

The best pressie I gave today was this one-of-a-kind necklace I bought off a craft stall at my local market. She loves handmade jewellery so she was *thrilled* when she opened it. It made me so happy to see her smile :)

    Much love,

  2. Hey, Elaine! And Merry Xmas! :P
I did not get to give a lot this year, but I did manage to send my best friend a small keychain notebook I've filled in with drawings and stuff to remember our good times by. I know she loves those and I haven't made one for her in 6 years, haha! :D
Hope you're enjoying your holidays! :P

  6. Merry Christmas!
I gave my husband a sweatshirt and tee from his college alma mater. He's been holding onto the same stuff he's had since he graduated (back in 1991!) and I decided he needed an upgrade. He was so cute opening the package and seemed really surprised and happy.

The necklace sounds like such an awesome gift idea!
I gave my Mum House DVD box set (she's kind of addicted to that show) and also a beautiful Este Lauder make up case filled to the brim with all the make up from their range that she likes to wear, she really loved it
One of the best things about Christmas is the look on people's faces when they open your gift.

  8. The only gift I gave today was my time and effort- my family isn't getting together for Xmas until next weekend for custody and travel reasons. And Stinky is with his mom this time.

So hubby and I volunteered to help out with a church Xmas dinner. He must have done a zillion dishes, and I did a lot of clearing and drying. It was really nice, and we will probably do it again if we find ourselves alone another Christmas.

  10. The best present I gave today is probably the scarf I made for my sister-in-law. Seriously... I wanted to keep it. :) Other than that, I was excited to watch my kids open all of their gifts. To them, each one was better than the last. They got excited for socks just because it was in pretty paper. Hahaha!!!

The best thing I GOT today was a skirt from my kids. It was my only present, but my loving children spent their limited funds on it. They bought it at Goodwill and thought it looked like something mama would like. It is tie-dyed denim and long. I'll be styling it into a blog soon.

  14. Merry Christmas!

My wife usually handles all the wrapping, but I did it for her this year. Does that count as a present? If not, the maybe the best gift was either the handmade necklace I gave her or the feeling of love and security I try to give the whole family. I don't know what they would say was the best. =)

  15. It's not my holiday today, but the best present I gave at Chanukah was a bag of chocolate, soap, socks, and pajamas I gave the little old man I drive to shul. His family isn't observant and he was going to be alone for Chanukah.

  16. Merry Christmas! I gave my dad a vintage sterling and turquoise tie-tac and he absolutely loved it. He was already mentally styling it, which is hilarious b/c my dad is not fashionable at all, but he loves vintage + turquoise. He was all "this is large enough to wear as a lapel pin too!", it was cute. I've been excited to give it to him for weeks and it was so worth it. I got a huge hug & "I love you" in return.

Hope you had a great Christmas!

  17. When my husband and I purchased our home, which was originally my husband's great grandmother's home, he asked me if I wouldn't mind if we put a picture of her up in the home somewhere. I of course replied with an, "Of course not!". I think it would be a nice homage to her in the home that once was hers. My husband was very close to his "Nonnie" (that's what he called her). She took care of him for a greater part of his life--from 8th grade until he graduated high school and he lived with her often post graduation. Earlier this month I contacted my mother-in-law and asked her to have some pictured copied and blown up of Nonnie as well as some other. When my husband opened the gift and saw his grandmother's face smiling back at him, he began to weep. I didn't expect him to cry. I've only witnessed him crying one other time. He got up and he hugged me through his tears. It was one of the sweetest moments. He said it was the best gift he has ever received.

  19. I love the idea of giving a temple recommend holder! Brilliant!

We're newly weds and low on money...I made some family banana bread, and I'm happy to report I gave it to them this morning and it's already disappeared!

And a side note...my husband wrote me a love letter for my stocking. I'm still drooling over it.

    Merry Christmas!

  20. I gave my mom a "Thank you, Mood" T-shirt from Mood Fabrics in NYC. She was so excited! I also gave her and my stepfather a Top Chef cookbook. She watches a lot of reality TV - but only the competitions, never the dating ones.

  25. The boyfriend and I sort of skipped Christmas this year, as we are traveling very far from families right now ( although we did chip in before we left to get his little bro a wii), so instead of gifts we bought a chunk of skype credits and called our families on the phone for the first time since we have been away. They were so happy to hear our voices and talk to us about our travels rather than just email!

    Feliz navidad, from Barcelona!

  27. Merry Christmas I hope you had an enjoyable day. I can't chose a best present that I gave this year but I went to a lot of effort this year and thought very hard about what I should get people. It was so lovely seeing everyone like to gifts I gave them.

  31. I know I'm a day late with this question, but the BEST present I gave this year was to my Hubbs. I gave him a new wedding band! It's made out of Tungsten and black ceramic. It is nearly unbreakable, which is great for him. Unfortunately, after I wrote on my blog about how excited I was about his present, that night I accidentally spilled the beans. Doh. My bad.

  34. I'm a day late, but I still wanted to participate! I had three favorite gifts that I gave for Christmas: 1) A hand engraved jar for my husband for him to make pickled eggs in. 2) A nightgown I made for my niece. 3) Framed art of my sister and I in the backyard for my dad. I love to give hand made gifts because it gives me lots of time to think about how much I care about the person I'm making it for.

  36. Merry Christmas, Elaine! I was really excited to give Matt a Diana Lens and tripod. He is just learning photography so I think he will really enjoy these. I was also excited to give my sister a Crockpot - we didn't grow up with one in our household so I think she will appreciate it a lot!

  37. We gave our grandsons a jar of loose change--with gold dollars, half dollars, quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies. Counting it kept them busy most of Christmas afternoon and now they are intent on opening savings accounts!

  38. I gave my mother a blown emu egg and, wouldn't you know it, she gave me a blown ostrich egg! Apparently she and I are even more alike that I thought...

  39. I'm a little late, but merry Christmas!

The favorite gifts I gave (or well, my husband and I gave I should say as they were from both of us) is a tie. We got my sister a beautiful necklace with a real Egyptian coin that was made into a pendant (she loves learning about Ancient Egypt). And my second favorite gift to give was a vintage suitcase that we got for my sister-in-law.

  40. Love these getting to know each other posts! You gave such cool, meaningful gifts. I loved giving my mom a wine stopper to replace the one I accidentally broke (seriously I'm like Lennie, I don't know my own strength) and helping my Dad pick her out a fabulous, pink (puke) Clarisonic face brush. She loves it!

  41. I gave "coffee sweaters" (coffee cup cozies) to my family. They liked them, especially my grandma. She was all touched that I finally used my knitting skills she had tried to bestow on me years ago. :)
