If there's food, it's a date.

Chaser-bug and I had a temple date today. I consider it a date because we got food afterwards. In-N-Out to be exact...and we ate it in the car. We're total romantics, didn't you know?

Now I'm home alone because Chase had to go back to school. Somebody come over and play with me?

To enter a Mormon temple, you have to go through interviews to ensure you are keeping your covenants and that you are worthy enough to enter the House of the Lord. The temple is all about sacredness and purity. Once you enter you have to change into white clothes because white is the symbol of purity.

Because you have to change every time you go into the temple, I've learned to wear the least complicated outfits...like a dress and a necklace. The trenchcoat and bag definitely ups this outfit into the cool factor...and we all know I'm cool.

  4. I always tell my fiancee that if it's pre-planned and there's food, we're on a date!

That's interesting about the Temple. I toured the outside (obviously) of the LA temple last summer and I think that was one thing I didn't learn in the 3 hours we were there!

  7. First off, you are GORGEOUS. You look absolutely brilliant and sparkling here! LOVE it. And is a temple date just a tradition or mandatory or a sacrament of sorts? I've read about other Morman couples doing temple dates so I wonder.

And yes, that trench is thrilling.

  8. i'm new to your blog and just wondering why the JCPenny items always say "free with gift card"? maybe i'm missing something and totally aloof but just curious! super happy i came across your blog through Kendi's, it inspires me to wear my cute clothes instead of "saving them for the occassion" thank ya

  9. Kimberellie, it's not mandatory but it is definitely encouraged!

Rachel, I won a $1,500 JCPenney gift card over the summer.

  10. ummm fyi, I would totally come over and play dress-up if I were nearby.

I'd bring my suitcase. And snacks.

  12. You and your husband are adorable!
I have a question. You said you have to change into white clothes when you enter the temple. Could you wear your own white clothes, or are they special blessed clothes that can only be provided there?

  13. Melanie, you can rent some there or you can bring your own but there are certain restrictions on them too!

  14. Snacks in the purse started for me when I was pregnant and now that I have kids I have pretty much anything in my 'mom' purse. People say "Oh check with Kally, she's a Mom." Ha ha! You look gorgeous and my fav pic is the last one of you and chaser-bug saying peek a boo. :)

  15. I love the last pic.

When you guys have kids, any time you are alone with more than 20 minutes on your hands is a "date".

  21. Just discovered your blog yesterday and am subscribing... love the idea of "clothed much," and it's thrilling to see a young woman embracing modesty. Maybe I can learn a thing or two about fashion from you while I'm here :) Right now, I'm feeling pretty special... I have a black dress and a khaki trench (both thrifted) that look very similar to yours; maybe there's hope for me yet!

    What a fun blog :)

  27. My wife and I still have dates like that--but we no longer count trips to the grocery store together like we did when we were first married. Yep, you and Chase are definitely cool!

That's interesting about changing into white. I hadn't heard that before.

  28. what a classic coat! looks like it goes with everything! cute!

  29. You can't go wrong with a trench and those shoes add a pop.

Are the shoes the latest addiction, following the sequin flats and the brown heels? I am certainly not complaining, as they are all gorgeous. You remix beautifully and seem to find pairs that go with everything.

  30. Hahha that peekaboo really surprised me! =D
I really love the outfit! I think navy and creme/beige go nice together. I think thats lovely, I love wearing white and thats nice to see everyone wearing white. Do you get stressed about the interview? I would, I would feel so embarrassed if I did something wrong... =P

  36. I run on such a high level of "Mormon Standard Time" that jewelry is generally not even included on temple dates these days! Whups.

You are endlessly chic, Elaine. Thanks for being such a lovely example.

  48. I just found out about your blog and it is so inspiring!! It is so hard to find classy modest clothes especially skirts, I thought only super expensive stores have clothes like that. But I can see you shop very smart! :) and you are just super gorgeous! Also just another comment, you know that according to God's commandments NO one is worthy of Him, because of our natural fleshly desires and sins. We all lied, cursed, said God's name in vain, coveted, lusted so we fail. God wont accept us just cuz we wear white, we are only in need of His grace and mercy to save us from ourselves. And that is what Jesus Christ did, took all our sins upon Himself. There's is so much more to this truth it's beautiful! :) I just think it's important to share the Gospel. God Bless your family :)
