Happy Halloween, guys!!!! This is my costume - I am a fashion blogger. Surprise... Chase and I aren't partying type of people...or dress-up people...or fun people. We're hoping our apartment building is on lock-down so we don't get kids at our door asking for candy. How about YOU give us your candy, kid?

Recently, I've thrown all my fashion rules out the window. I've just decided I'm going to wear whatever I want and not listen to that voice inside my head telling me this or that doesn't go together. Whatever, Voice. Before, I would've never paired a shorter fitted top with skinny jeans. Or wear a loose cardigan over it all. Or wear hot pink sandals. (Those are actually new.) Your homework assignment for this week is to break all your rules and have fun. Isn't that the whole point of getting dressed every day?

You still have two days left to enter to win one of three Bergman Wraps! You also have 18 chances to win. I don't think anyone has done all 18 entries yet. If you do, you automatically win.......a feeling of self-fulfillment.

Wearing Old Navy cardigan ($4), handmade necklace ($3), H&M shirt ($6), secondhand BDG jeans ($17), and Cotton On sandals ($7).

Hehe, I love breaking rules :)
But these days I am so busy that I wear whatever i can find in my wardrobe :)
You still look very stylish :)
I really love this outfit! It is just fabulous, I would totally wear it. :)

Breaking rules sounds like lots of fun. :) I do love your how pink sandals and think your outfit is very nice, actually! It doesn't look like you're breaking any rules. ;)
I seriously love love this outfit!! It is all my style. That necklace is fabulous. Hooray for breaking the rules!! :)
You look absolutely fantastic. That necklace with the striped tee, cardi, jeans...perfection! I envy the necklace every time.
Nobody was in the spirit here either. I took the kids trick or treating and we got a very small haul. Most of the houses had their lights off.
We stayed in to hand out candy for the last half and got ONE trick-or-treater. So now I have a whole basket of candy to myself. Mwahahaha!
I don't know that I have any fashion rules to break... hmmmm...
Love the outfit!! And haha, yea breaking fashion rules is lovely :D :D

what a great outfit! yay for breaking all of the rules:) it's so freeing to just throw caution to the wind and not worry about trying to fit it with fashion rules! good luck:)

I love your rules-out-the-window outfit! I feel like those are always the best ones... when you stop thinking so much about it and just wear what you feel like. I'm all for throwing rules out the window this week!
I love that burst of flowers every time I see you wear it. I'm not sure I can break all my rules in one week, but I have been gradually working on challenging myself.
I love that necklace, and I especially love it paired with the striped top!
I guess we know not to come to your place looking for candy! :D
If this is break the rules than you did an amazing job. I love this whole look! I am not the partying type either but I did hand out some candy. But like I said great look! Love that top. :)

love that necklace. That is so funny that you were the only one wearing casual clothes lol, I would have been mortified!. lol
You look so cute Elaine! I never had a trick-or-treater at any apt. I've ever lived in. So you might not have to worry. :)

haha I love it- you're a fashion blogger! I giggled a little. I'm not much of the dressing up and going out type either.
Haha! You're absolutely right. Why don't kids give US candy? You look so cute and that necklace is adorable.
I really, really like this outfit! I have that H&M top and I love it. Inexpensive and can be worn in so many different ways.
I swear the more and more I read your blog the more I realize we are alike. Matt is white, I'm Korean. We are not party people. I break "rules" when I get dressed.
I like the short fitted top with the jeans. I think very few can pull it off really, and you are definitely one of them.
I break the fashion rules more and more everyday... I am on course to be a crazy lady soon.
For Halloween we overbought candy so we had lots ourselves and now I have a stomach ache.
Your pictures always look so beautifully light flooded...
Those. shoes. are. amazing.
I completely agree about breaking the rules. Lately I've been mixing it up, wearing shorter shirts with leggings and skinny jeans, wearing flares even though no one near me likes them anymore and wearing big chunky late '90s/early '00s pennyloafers. Who needs rules? Rachel Zoe says if it was ever in, it still is!

I agree! Fashion rules are recipes for missed opportunities.
Oh, you rulebreaker! No, it's good to break your own rules. Sometimes the results change your way of thinking. :)
P.S. I love the new pink sandals.

Glad you dressed up as a fashion blogger. The outfit is lovely. Hope you had a wonderful Halloween!
I used to be that way too. But then I decided to throw caution to the wind, and just wear as many colors as possible. makes life more interesting :)
What rules? I have no rules when it comes to dressing. If it pleases my eye ,then it's ok.The yellow neckless makes a statement.
Rules are definitely to be broken,,,and it should always be broken if u could look this fab!! Jst love ur style ..Effortlessly Chic!!
xx
Loving your new sandals. You look great in your jeans so I am sure work will consider that and not sack you.
simple but cute!
Great outfit, and good for you to decide not to worry about what you "should" wear and just wear what you want. :-)
I always break the rules, they make no sense at all!
dressing is a very direct way to free my self :)
you look so chic
have a nice day!

I totally agree with you Elaine! I think that after taking (almost) daily pictures of your outfits for such a long time now you're more comfortable with your style and that stupid voice becomes more quite every day! hehe. I feel like this!
And I looove the pop of colour in this look. That necklace turns every kind of casual outfit into something kind of wow!
Love, Diana
Ach, pay no attention to the rules. I'm having much fun breaking them all this year.
Love the outfit. I have my own rules too and yes, sometimes I break them. But I never pair black with brown! Mybe I'm conservative but this is the one thing I don't want to accept.
People have to break the rules in order to push the boundaries of fashion and evolve their own style. Sometimes rules come in handy (as a guideline) but when something just looks good, it just does! Like this outfit. I love!
Love your casual chic outftit and yes rules are meant to be broken : ) xx
LOVE that necklace!!!

very inspiring Elaine breaking all the rules...and I will always put that in mind...
I love the comfy jeans and the cardigan with your sandals...it looks so comfortable and in total style...

Yay finally someone else who doesn't go for the whole Halloween thing, I really can't be doing with it. I did buy sweets for the kiddies though however we only got a few come round so... more for ME!! :) Love this outfit, sometimes it good to go against your own rules, I think it works really well.

this outfit is terrific! I love the pops of color (yellow and pink) and even the fitted-on-fitted. you look super long and lean!
Cute outfit, love that bright cheery necklace! But BOO to not dressing up! Next year most definitely :)
Staying modest is my only rule. Not throwing that out;)
I love the way that the yellow and hot pink POP out against the rest...be bold and daring!
Thanks for the follow...following you back!
Cool orange sandals!
Just Better Together
OK. so. I guess I haven't been reading your blog enough or something because I didn't realize you got a job. Huzzah! more details please.
Ha! I've never been teh one to follow any rules (fashion, school, mom's LOL!) so go for it girl! LOL!
And hey, I'm sure y'all are still fun even though you don't party. I styaed home and watch movies off the Wii (which I stole from my grandma... see rule breaker!)
This look is adorable and I can't get over how much I love the sandals!!
Great outfit! Really like the pop of colors with the necklace and shoes.
gorgeous.

you have inspired me to move beyond my daily routine of pants, t-shirt, flats, repeat. :) I got at least 10 compliments today! Thanks for the daily inspiration :)
yeeeaaah! let-s break the rules and stop being boring ;)
I don't know which I'm more jealous of: that AMAZING necklace, or the fact that the weather there is still warm enough for you to be wearing sandals. You're definitely not missing out on anything back here in Provo. Freakin' snow...
your yellow necklace is stunning. Totally makes the outfit =)
that necklace is awesome.
i love that necklace on you!
You know what? I totally agree.
I find it so sad that as we grow up we stop dressing up and start getting dressed.
