The Woes of Online Shopping

I recently bought this skirt online because I loved the origami detailing. I got it in my usual size but woe to me, it doesn't hug my body - it hangs from it. The skirt slip peeks out every time I bend to sit down. The fabric feels cheap. So this means I should return it, yes?

Ideally, I would want it up higher on my waist instead of my hips like so. Looking at both pictures, you can barely tell the difference but what you wouldn't know is how it feels on you.

While we were taking these pictures on the fire escape, Chase and I heard this obnoxious sound and came to find out it was coming from this HUGE crow across the street. I don't know about you but if that thing came near me, I would pee myself.

I would probably return it. The shirt is adorable, but if you don't like the fit it isn't worth keeping.

I like the stripes with the printed blouse!

Brianna said...

LOVE it! can you exchange it for a smaller size? or have it altered? It's too fabulous to just send back

I love the skirt! Is there any way you could get it altered? It seems like it wouldn't be too expensive of a fix.

I love this skirt! I think if it doesn't fit you the way you like, you should return or exchange it. I really wish it fit you the way you wanted it to. It really does look great on you!

I think you look gorgeous in this outfit. You can't tell the skirt doesn't fit or that the fabric is cheap, but if it bothers you, you're not going to wear it - so it should probably be returned.

I was taking a walk once and one started attacking me, it followed me until I ran across the street. Did you know that they know how to make tools?

I definitely ordered this skirt when I was ordering suit pieces for interviews! It didn't work on me at all, though, sadly. Especially because I ordered a tall size (which I would typically need) and it was waaaaaay too long. I think it looks great on you---would def try a smaller size if you can!

I agree with Rebecca. I just wrote a post talking about how I no longer think it's worth keeping clothes that don't quite fit, no matter how much you like them. It will always annoy you when you wear it, and you'll find yourself tugging at it to get it to sit the way you want it to. Or, you just won't wear it.

Elia @ Style Waistland said...

oooh, I love the skirt, but I definitely agree that it would be better if it sat a little higher on the waist. Maybe an alteration would do the trick?

Pansy said...

You look great in it on the pics. But anytime you don't feel 100% confidence in a garment I think you should return it.

Pansy said...

You look great in it, but anytime you don't feel 100% in a garment I think you should return it.

That skirt is gorgeous -- sucks that it doesn't fit as well as you'd like. Sometimes when my skirt lining sticks out, I just staple it up (like a hem). But that's just me. :)

MJ said...

Yes, you are right. It can look great, but NOT feel right. I would return it if I were you. Everytime you wear it you will just be thinking about how you wish it were higher, which might even prevent you from wearing it. I never buy anything unless I am in love with every single thing about it!

eek said...

I would try to exchange it if you can get a smaller size...it's a fabulous skirt, but if you don't like the way it fits you won't wear it.

PetiteLittleGirl said...

I do like the skirt on you. Have you washed it yet? It might shrink a bit and probably fits better after dried. I love the bow details on the skirt. Great find!

The skirt looks cute on you...but if you don't like it....if you took the tags off, I highly doubt they'll take it back but you could try. Its cute!

I think it looks great, but if you're on the fence about it, I say send it back. That's why I usually shy away from online shopping, because I find that if it's not exactly what I wanted, I never send it back. I guess I just don't want to deal with the hassle of shipping, so it usually ends up as wasted money.

I think you look great in it. I love the detailing. I don't know...is it worth having it taken in a little?

It looks great as is.

Ugh I know what you mean! That happened to me with a Forever 21 skirt and my mom threw away the online receipt so I can't even exchange it...I tried today...SO mad

If you're comfy in it then keep it! however i do think it would suit you much more in a smaller size.esp if you were to wear it in winter :)

if you're having doubts i say return it and find something better! i think i would if you were in your position even if i thought the skirt was cute.

bummer- did you read all the reviews? i am all about reading as many reviews as i can if they're available.
if you're not satisfied you should totally send it back and get the size you want!

It's a pretty skirt, but if it doesn't feel right you should return it.

Walking to the subway station the other day I saw a huge crow sitting on top of a light post, making it's cawing, screeching sound. Luckily it flew away before I walked past. Yuck!

I love the detailing on the skirt. I would at least try the next size down on to compare the feel.

It's a great skirt. I want one.
But you're right, if you are going to constantly tug at it and it annoys you then either return it for a different size or get it altered. Either way, you will be much happier! And use it more.

I love and HATE online shopping. I love it because it's so easy to do. I find something I like, click, and pay. Then, a couple weeks later, I UPS delivers my goodies right to my door! But I have had the worst luck buying clothing online. Nothing ever fits the way it should. Then you have to go through the whole hassle of returning and all that. Blah!!! But, I do love your skirt! Hope you find a way to make it work!

LyddieGal said...

I think the skirt looks adorable, but if it bothers you to the point where you wont want to wear it, or have to constantly fuss with it when you do, it should go back.

My main problem with online shopping is how annoying it is to return things - buy a box, pay for shipping, drive to the store, etc. I end up with a plethora of items I don't even really like. I would always recommend returning it if it's not perfect - you'll always find something better!

I know EXACTLY what you mean when you say that it doesn't sit at your hips. It doesn't change the way it looks very much but the way the skirt feels on is very different.

Returning items is definitely the annoyance of online shopping but that's the trade off for the luxury of shopping from home. Luckily most stores are making it easier and easier to return things.

Although I like it on you it isn´t the same as how you feel wearing it. If you don´t like the fit, might as well return it. The the reason why I don´t like shopping on-line. I can´t feel the cloth and I always have doubts about product sizing.

I'll tell you this, it looks much better on you than on the JCPenny model! I agree, send it back. If a few quick stitches won't perfectly fix the problem, then put the $$ toward something better.

i think you should keep it, unless it really, really bothers you. with the slip - you could probably hem that so it doesn't slip as much. if the overall fit is just wrong, you should return it. but if the slip is the biggest concern, i would keep it! it looks fantastic : /

That skirt is lovely...however, over half the style is in the fit and if the fit isn't there...it needs to go back. Just ask yourself, if you were trying it on in a dressing room in a store, would you walk it up to the checkout or leave it behind? xo Cat

I vote for tailoring. It's just too cute for it not to work.

Love that you paired it with a print blouse too. Very daring combo that TOTALLY works.

mysunshinegarden said...

That skirt definitely has adorableness potential, but as others have said, if you're uncomfortable in it it's probably not worth it. Half of any outfit is how you wear it, and if you're going to have to fidget with it or worry about it, it's going to detract from your awesomeness instead of adding to it. There's always other cute things to choose from!

Also that is almost definitely the largest crow I have ever seen.

Kimberellie said...

That is a super nice skirt. Too bad about the fit! I think returning it would probably be the best course of action. Then you can get something you really like! But you do look lovely here.

And yes, huge crows are scary. Once my husband attacked by crows! So there is real reason to be wary!
