A Hat for a Flower

Sunday, September 12, 2010
A few weeks ago I received this beautiful headband I won from Wanderlustings. I am not a headband person as you may have noticed (because I have a big head), but I really wanted it to adorn my hat. I love it. I think it completes my hat and my hat completes it. Do you wear headbands? I'm starting to reconsider it because of my bangs.

I basically revolved my outfit around this hat/headband duo. I used my hat flower as the focal point of the outfit and wore dark neutrals to give it that extra pop it deserved. The rope belt was a little tricky. I had to make sure I wouldn't be making too many bathroom breaks to get out of this mess.

  8. I'm all for dressing around a hat, which can be kind of tricky. You, however, have pulled it off splendidly! I like how you placed the flower off-center-front instead of squarely on the side. Very cute!

  9. That is an awesome outfit. I always like what you put together (you've inspired me to get creative and start taking/posting outfit photos!) but this one just looks like something I could actually pull off (except maybe the hat...I have the opposite problem: tiny head) :P

  10. You are extremely creative! I am constantly in awe of the ways you style your outfits! Needless to say, I look forward to more.

And to answer your question, I haven't worn a headband yet. I am considering it though. There must be one out there that will suit me.

  13. I really like the unusual color comparison between the shirt and short.

Also, I have a massive head and adore headbands! They look awesome with or without bangs, imo.

  14. I love this look. The rope belt is the perfect touch!
I wear headbands with big pretty flowers on them, but I have a baby face with chubby cheeks, so that helps and hurts. I can get away with the look at 28 yrs old, but sometimes it makes me look 12. :) I have your suggested one from Charlotte Russe. I use it to wrap around my bun when I wear my hair in a side swept front, messy bun.

  15. such a cute way to use a big flower headband! I have a silky-ish one that I never wear because it flops down/ I get self conscious of how big it is. I need a hat so I can wear it like that!

  16. Love the stripes here. But then I love stripes on anything. And the flower-on-hat look is sweet.

  17. i LOVE the belt! i wish i could figure out how to do that (: and the headband-hat is super creative!

  18. I like the headband on the hat, the combination of the two bold items actually downplays the huge flower a lot.

  21. Elaine, I love the blog make-over. AND, I want to wear that headband! Ever since I cut my hair short I have been dreaming of cute accessories. It looks darling on your hat. Cute bangs too. You could rock most anything.

  22. Cute! I love the rope belt but can see how that would be a hassle.

I don't wear headbands much either, I have a funny shaped head. Although I do have a few ones which happen to fit my head and look flattering too that I love.

  24. I'm positive you don't have a big head. Now I really do have a big head - I have to get hats from the men's department quite a lot of the time. That little beauty you're sporting now would perch on top of my giant noggin like a doll's hat :(

  25. I love this outfit. The flower definitely makes the hat. You also have the most amazing figure- this outfit really shows it off in a very classy way.

  27. I think you look great in that hat! The floral accent gives it some personality!

I don't wear hats or headbands much myself - I think my noggin is ginormous!

  28. beautiful hat Elaine...totally a great idea...I love the rope belt as well but I do not think it will be fit for me, since I always end up going to the toilet not only twice but so many bathroom breaks...

Love the flower on the hat...

  29. Cute! Great idea! I don't wear headbands b/c they either pinch behind my ears and cause a headache or slip off my head b/c my hair is slippery ;)

  33. I'm a fan of headbands but seldom wear them as my hair is usually a mess! I like this one, it adds a nice whimsical element to your outfit!

  34. i am LOL about your "big round head". i have a weirdly small head, and noel has a big one- we always say that if only we could combine into one person, we would be normal sized at last. i don't wear headbands much because they hurt my head! but i do think they're really cute, and i like the idea of putting it on a hat! ~joelle

  39. Great look! I love the rope belt. Definitely adds that extra polish. And I love the way you adorned your hat. I don't wear headbands either. They hurt my head (I guess I have a large head). But I used to really be into wearing ribbons as headbands. Didn't hurt my head and were usually cheaper than real headbands.

  48. I do love a headband, but I can't wear them for long periods because they end up giving me a headache.

Your hat is adorable with the flower added and I'm in love with the idea of a rope belt. I plan to copy that. Is that cool?

I'm not into headbands anymore...I've been slowly giving them away. I have a big head (too!) and they tend to give ma headache after a few hours.
