Just Add Lace

I received several compliments on my dress today. One was from a little girl. Then her younger sister shouted,  "I like her dress more!!" And I like YOU more.

Whenever this dress stared at me from my closet, I thought it only looked good with Brown (i.e. my brown belt and brown wedges). But that's boring. Brown is boring. Brown and I don't like each other very much. But Camel and I get along very well so my Seychelles it was.

That still left me with a stupid brown belt. I started with the belt it originally came with but that was too matchy-matchy. My MIL is a particularly crafty lady and I asked if I could root through her boxes of ribbons. When I saw this lace ribbon, I swear there was a beam from heaven itself. And that is my story. The End.

Wearing thrifted plaid dress ($5), lace ribbon (from my MIL's stash of ribbons), and Seychelles mary-janes ($15).

Random trip picture of the day:
This is the Filipino jeepney. From what I understand, when the Americans (that's me, kind of) left the Philippines after WWII, they left their military jeeps. The Filipinos, being the resourceful people they are, made them into useful modes of transportation. They're usually decorated and totally pimped out. We rode one of these to Banaue for four hours crowded and hot with chickens pecking and pooping at my feet. Let me tell you...not fun.

  2. Elaine, I love how you managed to turn a somewhat preppy or casual piece like a plaid shirtdress into something feminine and romantic. The nude-ish heels and the lace bow-belt totally transform it! You look fantastic :)
