I've been looking for some slim cargo shorts since I was born. I bought some men's cargo shorts when it was all the rage in the Idaho/Utah Mormon culture a few years back and let's face it...we're not fooling anyone, ladies - it's NOT flattering! So give the shorts back to your husbands.

Because cargo shorts are of a masculine influence, tone it down with feminine pieces. I went for my sequin flats (Yes...again. Don't judge me.), pink ruffles, and pearls. Could it get any girlier than that? Probably.

I rolled them up a little at the hems because J.Crew did in their recent catalog. If J.Crew jumped off a bridge, I am 99.9% sure I would. You know you would too.

Wearing 2the9s tee (courtesy of 2the9s Shop), thrifted Express shorts ($2), F21 sequin flats ($5), faux pearl necklace ($5), and secondhand necklace ($.75).
oh yeah, I never really got the whole "cargo pants/shorts" trend. Maybe it's because my legs have always been on the thicker side so I could never pull them off. and you are sooo right. It totally needs to be paired with feminine stuff!
ReplyDeleteI totally love this look! Too bad you can't go back in time and show 'em how to do it right!
wow you did so well with this outfit, i mean for the price!! i finally found a pair of khaki cargo shorts i love at ae for cheap. i especially love how you made your outfit feminine. perfect.
ReplyDeletesimple yet adorable :)
ReplyDeletelove the tips!

Anyone who says they wouldn't jump off that collective bridge is lying. Those shorts are fantastical, and don't be afraid to wear those flats--I've been wearing the same pair of Target leopard flats for three years.
ReplyDeleteaaaah that j crew comment cracked me up.
ReplyDeletebecause seriously, i would.
and this is totally jcrew-ish with the juxtaposition of rugged and delicate pieces.
I didn't even know that slim cargo shorts existed! I feel like the light has finally started shining down on me. Haha. But really, they look fantastic. And I love the way you put this outfit together. I think that this top is one of my favorite pieces I've seen on you so far.

hahaha i totally wore the men's cargo shorts back when it was "cool". so glad i gave that up. you look so fab, and i too am a j crew whore.
ReplyDeletelove it. this slimmer cut is almost more flattering, cute!
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with them!! You made them look much more feminine.

u totally make this look work, and it does not look like you need any 'luck' with thrifting like u said u do! those shorts are perfect on u!
ReplyDeleteand yeah if i liked a pair of shoes so much, i would also probably wear them everyday.thats what they're for. right?

Thanks! I can never pull this off since I always thought it was because of my height! I'm 5'2". Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteloved the idea how you pulled off the cargo shorts with those feminine flats and necklace..looks so clean and simple yet so chic.
ReplyDeleteYep, you definitely did cargo shorts proud!
ReplyDeleteThose shorts are great and I love them rolled. I am immune to the J Crew influence though (OK, only because I live in the UK and don't see their stuff).
ReplyDeleteI don't judge you on the flats. I love them too.
I love cargo shorts and wear them a lot in the Summer. Thanks for sharing, I love this outfit!! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha wow I'm completely guilty of stealing my husband's cargo shorts. And not even a few years ago... it was a few weeks ago. But your Express shorts look amazing and waaay more flattering, it's true. I also always love a little juxtaposition in an outfit.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your flats. Probably won't get sick of 'em.

You look great! Thanks for the tips! It will definitely come in handy.

haha i like your J.Crew comment :)
ReplyDeleteWow, they're lovely. And they look so good on you. I love cargo shorts. I have a few 3/4 ones and a pair of shorts as well. They're perfect for summer.
ReplyDeleteOh I like it a lot. The cut of the shorts is great, much more tailored than I was expecting.
ReplyDeleteI do like bermuda shorts, though :) but not men's ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the mix here - very cute, lady!

Simple but absolutely adorable. You nailed the cargo shorts look :)
ReplyDeleteDazzling. I like boysh looks when they're mixed with feminine stuff, like you did with the top and pearls. You are SO cute Elaine! :)
ReplyDeleteAbout the post on my blog, I'm sorry. I didn't translate because it is about a Brazilian TV show for kids that I used to watch when I was 4. The comic was related to it. Sorry dear. xoxo, have a great day!
I´don´t think I can pull off the cargo trend because I have short and ¨¨very healthy¨ legs and so I live that trend to you because you pulled it off well. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't judge about the sequin flats - I have a pair of silver sequin ones and they are literally the most comfy pair of flats I own.
ReplyDeleteYou look great in those shorts!
Hahahahahaha, I would totally follow J Crew anywhere too ;)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I normally kind of hate cargo shorts, but you made them look fabulous! The girlish items definitely make them look more stylish. Also the fit and the cut of these shorts are so flattering on you.
ReplyDeleteShopTOLive.ca
very cute...but I think I beg to differ. I've rocked my guy friends cargo shorts a handful of times and paired with the right top...the outfit looks kinda cute.
ReplyDeleteFashion X K8
Some great tips!! Now I know what to do with my brown cargo pants, haha...they are a bit shorter but close enough ;)

You made this shorts looks really great, a nice feminine tough always does the trick :)

This outfit is great! I always had an issue with the men's cargo shorts on girls. There's one big problem - most girls have butts, and most guys don't, so the shorts looked way awkward. Now I want cargo shorts like those. However, my thighs are monsters so I'm not sure they'd look good on me :(
ReplyDeleteI never thought about that!!! I look so baggy and like a dope with those pants, especially when I was in the Philippines, borrowing pants from my brothers...
ReplyDeletewhew!!! this post is such a relief...but I am still having second thoughts because I have great powerful legs not like yours...so I guess I would look short wearing it...well there is no harm in trying!!!
thanks for this post Elaine..
take care love
always

i would personally drive a bus load of jcrew devotees to the jump site.
ReplyDeletei'm searching for skinny cargo pants for fall. this is great inspiration!
You look fantastic! I still see women in men's shorts here and I die a little inside each time. Not to sound melodramatic, but every Mormon woman should be following your blog!
ReplyDeletehaha, you're so hilarious girl! Thanks for the tips! I hate cargo shorts/burmuda shorts because I have a muscular lower body and those things are so not flattering! It's all about a delicate, frilly balance! :)
ReplyDeletexo
The slim fit and colour of these shorts is great..you suit them well, nicely done!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you wore your cargo shorts, and love those sequin flats!
ReplyDeletegood tips. i've come to believe that the key to good looking cargos is to make sure they're a slim fit.
ReplyDeleteI totally can't wear them because I have bigger thighs, but I love the way they look on you! And hey, nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes day after day. We all can't have new ones every day. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right - if J.Crew jumped off a bridge I would as well :). My outfit today is in fact inspired from their Crewcuts catalog - how sold out am I?
ReplyDeleteAnd love this outfit!
Small Time Style
lovely outfit, and that khakis pants really looks good on you :)
ReplyDeletelove,vdcouture
You totally rock those cargo shorts!
ReplyDeletehttp://thenovembergirl.blogspot.com
Those shorts are adorable on you.
ReplyDeleteI just got some cargo pants from LOFT and I LOVE the way they look with heels & "soft" tops! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to wear cargo shorts, but alas, just too "hippy" to pull it off. Looks good on you though!
ReplyDeleteYou do make cargo shorts look good! They go well with your cute flats.
ReplyDeleteHoly Smokes Batman, you look like you just stepped out of a J.Crew catalog!
ReplyDeleteAt least I know how to ultimately flatter you. ;)
No really, great combo here. Would've never thought pearls with cargo shorts, but they look great together.
www.styleusvancouver.com
Unfortunately I was there for the Utah cargo craze. I really like how you made them feminine!
ReplyDeleteI love it! you look great, the girly-ness on top totally balances out the shorts
ReplyDeletePsh, I'm not judging you for wearing those cute flats again! It annoys me like no other when Bloggers will NEVER repeat a piece of clothing -- it's too unrealistic.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what cute shorts! Love your blog!
xx Madeline
You have pretty legs... I'm not sure if I will look as pretty as you, my legs don't look good in shorts... but you look amazing with that pink top and those beautiful flats!
ReplyDeletefreaking hilarious! "if j crew jumped..".. i DIE over you!
ReplyDelete~selina(sis#1)
Oh I did that thing with the guy shorts. They were too heavy though and it didn't last long. Maybe that's why it has taken me so long to get back to wearing shorts. (This summer, I have three pairs- the most in who knows how long!)
ReplyDeleteThis is the perfect juxtaposition for the cargos. Lovely!
ReplyDeletethe cargo shorts are amazing on you. however, i really like the way you paired the pearls with the sequined shoes. what a cute combination :)
ReplyDeletebecauseicantgonaked
great shorts!
ReplyDeleteGreat look! And you're right, I probably would jump off a bridge with J Crew, though I still haven't worn anklets with my pumps. That must be the 0.1% ;)
ReplyDeleteI dont wear them maybe because I dont think I look good but my sister love them.
ReplyDeletewww.toutcefabuleux.com
Yes! Thank you! That whole "Baggy cargo with a tight Shade shirt" thing never should have started in the first place!
ReplyDeleteIn general, you're right about them not being flattering, but they looks very nice on you--a;ways the exception!!! =)
ReplyDeleteI like them because of the extra pockets. That way I don;t have to ask my wife to carry things for me in her purse.
Well aren't you a little cutie :)
ReplyDeletegood job. i think wedges would look good with cargo shorts too.
