After seeing Tania's covered waist-band skirts, I needed to make one! This took me forever because I used Susan's tutorial again but forgot to account for the covered waist-band part so it was a bit too short. I scrounged up whatever fabric was left and created another layer underneath. It seems tiered skirts usually have three tiers...right? Chase said it looked like it was missing a tier.

This was taken on our last full day in Salt Lake. It was a sad day. Kind of. I don't remember. It was pretty chaotic. We had to pack, move, and clean the apartment so it was a lot to handle. I'm just glad it's over!!!! Now I want to focus on my vacation... :) First stop....Hong Kong!

Wearing thrifted Talbots blazer ($4), Old Navy tee ($4), thrifted Anne Klein belt ($1), DIY skirt ($10), and Old Navy gladiators ($7).
I think uuusually you'd see tiered skirts with three tiers, but I think that this is working nicely. Especially since you made it! I think the light floral pattern works nicely with the more structured blazer and sandals.
ReplyDeleteAnd though you're moving-- you're going to HK! I'm going to Thailand soon, that's ... sorta in the area, right? Hahaaa, no. Bon voyage, have a safe trip! :)

Elaine, it looks great!! Great job.
ReplyDeleteYou look great.
ReplyDeletelove how youve done your bangs all wavy ... just such a gorgeous print it looks very sweet though perhaps another tier would make it look really expensive which is good.. its still beautiful
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautifully, Elaine! Yes, I think three tiers is common, but you made it so well and there's nothing wrong with being original.
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern mixing with the stripes and the floral!
Have a wonderful time on your vacation :-)
love this pattern mixing! maybe you could cut off some of the first tier and sew it on the newer, shorter, first tier so that'd make it 3 tiers :) yay! have fun on your vacation! take lots of photos!
ReplyDeletelove the colours of this outfit! you always mix colours so well. i think it looks alright with two tiers; three might have been a little too much. love the fabric! <3
ReplyDeletecute outfit, love that skirt! you are so talented! aw, i hope you enjoy your trip, if you're ever in the bay area near san fran we should meet up one day!

ReplyDeletegood luck with the move, and have a great vacation!
ReplyDeletethe skirt is super cute as is, but if you'd like to try a three tiered look, maybe you could layer a lace slip underneath? a black one like this half slip might work!

ReplyDeleteI love the two tiers - no need for a third! Love the stripes and floral in this outfit. Have an amazing time on your vacation!

You look awesome Elaine, and love that this is your last Utah outfit. The mixing of the prints is awesome and love that you made that skirt all by yourself. The tiers are romantic!
ReplyDeleteCute, cute! Love the mixing of patterns!
ReplyDeletei like the two tiers -- it's an unexpected look!
ReplyDeletethat skirt is gorge xxxxx
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed that you made that skirt! I'll chime in with the chorus here and say that usually they have three + tiers, but that it's lovely, so it doesn't matter that this skirt has two.
ReplyDeletelove your floral skirt ! good job Elaine ! like always :)

Great designer you are! You look fab as always...xo
ReplyDelete3 tiers??? I never noticed. I think 2 looks great...you did a really nice job.
ReplyDeleteThis type of change is usally bitter-sweet--it would have been less bitter and more sweet if it was the middle of winter and you were escaping snow!!! It's good that we're usually too busy in those moments to wallow in them. But it is nice to look back on them and appreciate them.
PS - Have a GREAT vacation!
ReplyDeleteYou're so cute with this look!

ReplyDeleteI actually like the one tier on the skirt. I am working on making one similar to this one but it will have large pockets in the front and a thick waistband with small pleats!
ReplyDeleteTwo tiers look fantastic! I love the print too.

Great! Bold mix of prints. Love it. :-)
ReplyDeletei love this: floral + stripes! so chic! :)
ReplyDeletei think you nailed this. i think the two tiers makes it more structured and more bell shaped. a fun alternative.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you mixed the stripes with the floral! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss you but I'll keep checking out all your outfits. I love the skirt. It's AWESOME! I don't think it looks like it's missing a tier because it doesn't look tiered. Where did you get the beautiful fabric?
ReplyDeleteI like the two tiers. Beautiful fabric!
ReplyDeletei actually like it as just two tiers, its kinda like a peplum. Great work! It turned out fantastic.

I think you did a great job on the skirt! The print is so pretty too. You styled it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteAHH HONG KONG! I miss it SO much! Wish I was going sometime soon :(
I love the fabric you chose for the skirt, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the tier looks weird, becuase it's just a little one it looks like a feature.
I love this combination and that skirt looks awesome with just 2 tiers. The tiered skirts that Target had this season were only 2 tiers. Have an amazing vacation and best of luck with your move. SO EXCITING!
ReplyDeleteThe stripes and crisp blazer with the flowered skirt looks so effortlessly perfect, but I never would have thought of the combo myself. Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt! So cute!

ReplyDeleteIt looks like it is missing a tier! lol. It's still pretty though. I love the fabric! Perhaps you can add one more; although, I'm not a sewing expert, so you can probably figure out how to easily do that!
ReplyDeleteHow did you cover the waist band? I'm curious, I want to try it too, the skirt looks adorable.
ReplyDeletewhat a BEAUTIFUL skirt! you're sewing abilities are getting really good!
