Black Pastels

The forecast called for rain again today, hence, my leather, waterproof boots (and my raincoat, but I had to take that off because it was too hot). Instead, the sky was bright blue with big, white clouds and barely any rain. I'm so over planning my outfits around weather.com. It's a big FAIL each time!!!

In response to yesterday's mention of skinny jeans and modesty... Thank you for all your comments. This is my style and modesty is subjective. Unfortunately, I'm not here to please everyone. That is impossible. But as La Historiadora de Moda said, "[I] am true to [my]self and [my] standards and that is what should matter." And if that offends you, I truly apologize, but I won't be changing myself or my style because of a few anonymous, negative comments. As for the 99% of you, we're totally BFFs now...like totally.

  1. love the scarf! they're my fave accessory. and the boots are super cute, too!

re: the issue of modesty, it's all subjective, isn't it? and like you said, it's not possible to please everyone. i for one, seem to have the same "definition" of modest as you.

    keep on, girl!

  2. skinny jeans = modesty issue? never would have thought of that one. you always rock these J Brands! great look, and i'm lovin' the styling of the scarf.

  3. I'm not quite sure of the definitions of modesty as it's really not something that's part of the culture over here (at least not the part that impacts on me), but you always dress beautifully Elaine and I really don't see how skinny jeans are any worse than tights.

Anyway, I love the mixture of shades on your top half, so pretty and feminine :)

  4. oh love the pink and grey and white belt combo!

Isn't it frustrating when the weather doesn't cooperate??

  5. An outfit can be a "wow" and still modest. Modesty is not a burlap sack! I'm considered old fashioned by my friends. Not quite a prude, but a stick in the mud at times compared to their views. Anyway, I've never seen you dress in a way that wasn't modest. Is it possible to disable anonymous comments???

  6. PS - Do at least take an umbrella with you! =)

  7. Weather network lets me down too... but the boots are great regardless.
I've said before that I am not 'modest' but I do want to look appropriate so my checklist is 'would Elaine and my mom like it?' true story

  8. Wow, I find it unbelievable that people are giving you a hard time about skinnies! I think skinny jeans look absolutely FAB on you!! Especially since you have such a great figure.

As for me, we're only allowed to wear skinny jeans to work!!

  10. love that scarf! the weather can be so fickle sometimes. down here it rained in the early morning, then the sun came out for the rest of the morning, but by 2:00 it was all cloudy and sprinkling!

  11. you're cute. the best thing about the Gospel is that it's completely personal and allows you to be selfish, the Gospel is about our personal conversion and our relationship with Heavenly Father. More power to you sister!

  12. I, too, hate it when the weather changes its mind. oh the joys of this time of year, right? you always look wonderful. stay true to who you are - you are "fearfully and wonderfully made."

  16. love this!! and it looks like you were in a pretty neighborhood too! i often feel like I am being judged for wearing skinny jeans... especially at work! I feel like they're modest though! i'm so glad someone else has this dilemma. i mean its not really a dilemma, but you know what i mean.

we have family stuff friday night, and i have a study group on saturday after work. next week will have to work. lets plan it right now. dessert somewhere. or sushi you and me? for real. promise lets make this work.

  20. i LOVE this look. love love love. the gray and pink and scarf are too perfect together. i am dying for some soft dovey colors lately, and your outfit hits the spot.
    must commence copying.

  21. How do you do that with your bangs? It's amazing! Are they crimped? I'm doing a major haul on my hair tonight because I can't seem to be satisfied with one look.

Glad you brushed the negative comments away! My husband is one of my biggest gauge for modest wear. Even if I think something is modest, he'd say something about it being too sexy even if it covers up almost every inch of my skin! How interesting. Men really do know a lot about visuals. Just as long as you're pleasing God and your man, you are fine!! :)

  28. We can't please everybody... each of us has our own styles. I love skinnies and I don't find them immodest. I live in a very conservative country yet my views are more liberal when it comes to fashion.

Go on wearing what you love to wear... don't change your style. That style is what made people come to your blog and follow you. xoxo

  29. I love the belted cardigan!! That's such a great way to wear those two pieces! I also like how your scarves are always tied just so and look right... Mine are just all over the place for the most part!

And who are these mean people? Jerks. No worries, I got your back.

  31. Elaine,
I really want to strongly suggest that you turn the annomous commenters off. Theres been a wave of annomous commenters running around to a lot of the blogs I read leaving hurtful comments, all about modesty. I don't know if this is the same person, BUT DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! Skinny jeans are a modesty issue for some people. Everyone has different standards. I myself wear skinny jeans occasioanlly, but thats me! I agree with you, go with the style you want to. No one elses opinions matter! (I know, I know, easier said than done)
If you want to turn annmous commenters off, go to the dashboard and click settings, then in the tabs click comments. Then click "Who can comment" and select Registered Users - includes OpenID. then save it at the bottom of the page. That should take care of it! Trust me, I've had a few mean commenters. Guess whos not commenting anymore?! Hope this helps!

  32. omg, i too am so over the weather...it's ridiculous! i had to carry my trench coat around today when the skies cleared up! ridiculous :( you look lovely despite the bipolar weather! i'm glad you're back in your skinny jeans! sometimes it's hard to remember to dress for yourself rather than to please your readers. i'm struggling with that at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I also have planned outfits around weather.com, like you, only to be misled! lol.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I always love the outfits you come up with, and this one is no exception. I love the color combination, and the scarf is an excellent touch!

  37. Oh, if our weather network was to be even remotely reliable, their doomsday like predictions last year would have caused great panic. But fun thing... the day Mumbai was to be "submerged" in water, it did not rain a drop!!!

I agree with you on the issue of modesty. it's a very subjective issue and I don't understand people who leave nasty comments. Don't even think about them.

Take care and have a fabulous weekend. You look lovely, as always.

  50. What are you talking about?? I love those skinny jeans! I actually bought my first ever this past month and I love them and they do not look inappropriate, that's just plain stupid. You gotta post a tutorial on how to wrap scarves around the neck because I love the way they look on you and I can't get my scarves to look like that on me.

I read that somebody was saying to turn anonymous commenters off and I think that'd be awful for me because I don't have any web account (just e-mail) and i'm not planning on opening any, so if you did that I would not be able to comment :(

  53. I love how you turn your cardigan into a wrap and then belt it - such a great idea, really makes it fresh. In fact, I think this is my favorite outfit on you. The colours are such a perfect transition from winter to spring. Love!

I can't believe your getting 'hate' for wearing skinny jeans - some people people just love to hate and look down on others. I am not conservative, but I like you and your style. And I like that even though you consider yourself modest, you seem really open minded and non judgemental.

  59. I used to think skinny jeans were immodest too...but now I wear them all the time. It really depends on your figure and how you wear them. I think for larger framed (and more curvalicious?) people like me, creating a modest and tasteful outfit with skinnies gets a little more challenging. But in the end, as we always say at my church, modesty begins in the heart. It more has to do with your general behavior than just what you are wearing.

  60. I love the way you paired a dark bottom with light, airy tops. The juxtaposition between colors is just like a breath of fresh air - gorgeous! :)

  61. Your outfit is super cute Elaine. And regarding the skinny jeans ... WHATEVER! You look great in them, without a hint of immodesty - now if I were to wear skinny jeans with all my bumps showing, THAT would be immodest. But on you: just CUTE.
