Thanks to LyddieGal, I was able to hem my skirt properly when I got home! It still has some rippling in it but it looks better than before. The length is now a little above my knees, which is what I usually prefer...

I made my second skirt today but it looked really bad. It took me only two hours to do. That could've had something to do with it. Everything was off - the hem, the length, the bunching at the waist band - so I had to give it up. It is not fixable! Not for me at least.. RIP Wal-Mart fabric.
Wearing Collection B faux leather jacket ($55), Old Navy shirt ($4), thrifted belt ($1), DIY skirt ($3), F21 tights ($7), and thrifted boots ($8).
you did a wonderful job layering this look. but my favorite part is the leather jacket - very cool!

I looove the colour of that skirt :**) And it looks great on you!! I like how you matched it with the striped top.

Even though the trend now is apparently long-length skirts, I agree with you, I'm all about the skirts that hit above the knee.
ReplyDeleteAnd ahhh why would you want my awkward body?? My secret obviously deals with eating geese toes and pickled tomatoes. ;) and Korean doughnuts. nyam nyam.
Toast with Charmalade
the color of that is just gorgeous!!!!!!! :) love it paired with the striped top! it's a shame your second skirt didn't turn out as well as you'd hoped but maybe you can attempt it again with the same fabric? :)
ReplyDeleteThe skirt is 2 days old and it's already been remixed--hooray! :) That's too bad about the other skirt...but it all takes experience! It seems complicated too, with the pockets and all. My sewing abilities are sort of like my knitting abilities...I'm good with squares and rectangles, but that's about it!
ReplyDeleteNice work! I like that length, too, I think it's universally flattering and still leaves enough to the imagination.
ReplyDeleteAnd why oh why oh WHY did Wal-Mart kill their fabric departments?! I was lamenting that the other day, so it's funny you mention it. I don't love Wal-Mart (don't even like it much) but their fabric sections were so cheap and closer to me than proper fabric stores. Le sigh.
oh that's adorable! its a shame the other one didn't work out, but i really like this shade of green. might you divulge which pattern you used? i want to make one of my own!
ReplyDeleteThe skirt looks fantastic - what a great colour! It really suits you.
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt you made. I can't sew so don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is so cute ! I love colors !
ReplyDeletemademoisellepaulina.blogspot.com
oh wow that's so cool! i want to try doing stuff myself. oh and the length is definitely much better now :)

Above the knee is my usual hemline of choice too!
ReplyDeleteHi! Very cool combo! Thanks your comment on my blog! Come again!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
hey. i love what you did with the belt. ^^ cute
ReplyDeleteLooking good! Love it paired with the jacket :)
ReplyDeletePretty pretty skirt!
ReplyDelete♥
Looks great! Deffo with you on the skirt above the knee thing :)

I love your skirt...is perfect...Muakssss
ReplyDeleteOh you did such a great job with the skirt Elaine! I remember how proud i was when I finished my first skirt :)
ReplyDeleteRose
The waistband is great - you always have the cutest accessory belts that look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteKristin
I love skirts with wide exposed waistbands but I would never be brave enough to try to make one! I agree on the just above the knee length skirt, but at 5'2" I'm usually too lazy to hem my skirts to fall there.
ReplyDeletevery pretty!! i really love the way accessorize outfits with leather belts!
ReplyDeletexxjessi
This is such a simple but classic outfit. You look beautiful and you did a great job on the skirt! I love your striped top too.
ReplyDelete- JoAnn, Sidewalk Chalk
This looks great! I really like it paired with the color in that shirt too.
ReplyDeleteI like your top and you always have such lovely tights. I really like the skirt too and the colour is very nice and unique too.
ReplyDeleteI like the pairing of the stripes with the green. so adorable!
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew how to hem things. My legs are short so most things are too long for me, so I really should learn.
ReplyDeleteI like how you've tucked the end of your belt in, I need to remember that, I always feel so weird with the end of my belts sticking out! Also I love all the colours in this outfit, they go so well together :)
ReplyDeleteThe last few times I've looked at your blog, I've thought to myself, "I really need to get some textured tights" because you rock them all. the. time. Thanks for the inspiration!

props, that ruching (sp?) looks difficult to execute
ReplyDeleteI think this looks great! I loveeee that leather jacket, and all of your pieces are perfect! :)
ReplyDeleteImpressive nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteI've decided that you are amazing with clothes! I was trying to picture something in my closet that I could wear the next day (instead of making outfits of clothes that I don't actually own) and I thought it wouldn't be long before I'd have to start wearing repeats...and then I though Elaine appears to wear something different everyday for the last few months...it's a talent what you have!
I love this look lady! You're awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou look great in the skirt...and think this length looks better than the previous one!
ReplyDeleteRIP Elaine's Second Skirt!

My Delusional Mind
Aww, sorry to hear about your second skirt! I really like the blue stripes with the green. You look lovely!
ReplyDeleteha! thank you for the waist shot--it almost looked like you'd done it without elastic and i was going to be very impressed! i think this skirt looks terrific--i'm so excited to try one of my own.
ReplyDeletetoo bad the other one didn't turn out--sigh!
Well, chalk the second one up to practice.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that the second skirt didn't turn out. I'm super impressed with this one!
ReplyDeleteSo this is the first time I am seeing your skirt that you made and might I say GOOD JOB!! I need to try to make a skirt some time! I've only sewed pajama pants and pillows! lol The skirt looks great on you! Also I love how your hair looks!!
ReplyDeleteI'm still totally in love with that skirt! I liked seeing the elastic top... I thought it had been covered up for some reason (like sewed all the way in) but it's much more modern and hip how you did it! (Does saying hip make you feel old and *not* hip?)
ReplyDeletePS. Okay I feel like a stalker or something, but I looked you up on FB the other day and noticed you were friends with Cheryl Eyre. Both of you guys went to BYU-I and I was wondering if you actually knew her! She's in my ward and seriously the SWEETEST person I have ever met!
Great skirt! You have got some skills :)
ReplyDeleteahh i'm sorry to hear the wal-mart fabric skirt didn't work out...i was so looking forward to seeing it! at least you fixed this one up a bit and it's looking great! :) i love it with those tights.
ReplyDeleteBummer to hear about the other skirt. I was excited to see how that toile turned out.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a classically beautiful outfit. I think you did a GREAT job!
ReplyDeleteAwesome outfit! Love the skirt<3
ReplyDeletexoxo M.
amazing look
ReplyDeletei love your belt and skirt
xxx
I guess the tie´s design kind of seperates lovers from haters: naturally i am belonging to the first...but i appreciate your comment, thank you :)
ReplyDeleteAs for your skirt, this combination definitely works better than the one you showed before (with that denim jacket and those black tights). The jacket is awesome, as is the shirt. To top that off even more i would have suggested black instead of brown boots...nevertheless, it looks very good.
Hey hun!! Luv ur styling here : ) I am finally back to blogging and commenting, so you will hear from me every day, good to be back : ) xx
ReplyDeleteLove your jacket!
ReplyDeleteWell done, girl. You put together 2 of my favorite items that you have been wearing lately.

Sorry about the 2nd one! You still look really cute :D
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the second skirt didn't work out! Sewing is such a frustrating hobby sometimes. I started on one (of like five) dresses I'm planning on making for summer and it's not going too hot either!
ReplyDeleteThe green in your skirt pairs really nicely with the stripes. Love it, as usual!
Your skirt is so cute! I'm also a fan of your hair, I love the wind-blown look!
ReplyDeletei am from salt lake. my whole family lives all over utah. crazy! so let me tell you what i love about your style. i know you have certain restrictions on what you can wear as i grew up lds and my whole family is. i love that you wear modest clothing, but make it look so hot! there are very few people that can pull this off imo. love!

The skirt looks good! I have not sewed anything in forever and I feel like it would be a disaster if I tried!

I have been looking for the perfect tights here in F21 but I guess I need to loose more weight because of my big thighs and legs hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Tsunami warning, it was really crazy but god bless we are all safe.
Can I grab you jacket from your closet?
Super love it.
Take Care always,

You did a GREAT job with the skirt! Can't wait to see what your next project will be, I need to wipe all the dust off my sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteperfect skirt combined with simple top, you look so gorgeous. simply stunning! what i love the most is the combination of colours!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is lovely. I love everything about it; the color, the shape, and it looks amazing on you. Hope you have a good week.
