Stripe the Florals

Monday, February 22, 2010
Thank you for all your suggestions and congratulations for our Philippines trip!! We are so excited to go! Me more so than him. The Mr. is more excited about Hong Kong. I'm worried about the language barrier.. I took a few courses in Chinese but am hardly capable of conversing with anyone.

This outfit came to me last night before I fell asleep. Thank goodness it looks half decent! The majority of the time (99%) those outfits never do anyone any good...especially since I'm half asleep when they come to me. I love the stripes/florals/ruched sleeves/fishnets combo.

  5. I love the outfit! Don't worry - I'm Chinese and I've been taking Mandarin and Cantonese lessons for years and I still can't have a proper conversation with my own grandparents.

Your hair is really cute in this one!

  6. I like it! I love mixing patterns, but I think I've done all of the ones that work with what I have. Guess that means I need to go shopping, unfortunately. Haha.

  22. Hi there. Just a short note from Hong Kong. People here are more than ready / capable of communicating with you in English, and I think you would hardly need to converse with anyone in Chinese as a tourist. So no worries.

  23. I love your pattern mixing -- this looks so good!

  24. I love this outfit! The pouffy sleeves give it a cool, vintage flair and I totally covet that skirt. You'll have a great time in Hong Kong. Like other people have said, everyone there speaks English. Make sure to eat a lot! The desserts there are especially fantastic.

  29. haha I know what you mean about thinking an outfit is going to be so great before waking up the next morning and realizing it was a very, very bad idea.

But you're right, this one was fantastic. I love a little mixed pattern, and stripes with floral is probably my favorite! You look great.

  31. Girl, you must have been reading my mind last night! I was thinking of this same outfit (solid tights for me), but I don't have any floral skirts that are flowy enough! Time to go skirt hunting, I guess! :)

I'm really liking the mix of colors, too, not just the patterns! I love black and brown together, and your tights&boots are perfect!

  32. The first word that came to mind when I saw this outfit was jaunty. You look like you're ready for a picnic, or to go sailing with your best fella. I wish I could have such great semi-conscious inspirations!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Half decent??? You look great today Elaine! But the outfit aside, it's nice seeing you look happy in that first picture.

About what scared me so badly, I hope it never happens again--it was a nightmare.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Elaine! Can I pretend like this is an "ask a question" post? Do you have any solutions for my problem...I love my cute belts, and I NEED to wear one or my pants fall down...but I hate the big bump they make under a shirt, right there in front where I don't want a bulge. What to do?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @The Damsel in DisDress You should check out invisibelt.com. It's pretty cool! I don't own one but I've read some reviews on other blogs and it seems pretty legit. Or you should try the instantbuttonforjeans.com. I have it and it is amazing!! Hope this helped!!

  36. Yay, love the stripes and floral! You look so springy!

You'll be fine in HK. I don't speak a word of cantonese and got by just fine there--I don't think I dealt with a single person who didn't speak English.

  38. one of my favorite things to do right now is wear two different types of patterns together... plaid with stripes.. florals with polka dots etc

hong kong will be great actually, because most people know english! you do know it was a british colony until 1997 right...? I know this because my family is all from HK and my cousins all have british accents!!

if you want any ideas on where to go, where to eat, what to do let me know and I'd be happy to give you some suggestions! =)

  41. Have fun on your trip and you don't have to worry about the language, generally the people in HK and Philippines speak english, you should not worry about it :)

HK is one most beautiful city, I love it dearly, the weather is awesome too, not so cold not so warm... Go further visayas area (ie Cebu, Bohol, Boracay) in Philippines, much better climate, awesome sceneries and cheap.

  79. Hi dear, no problem in Hong Kong. I am in the Philippines right now and i frequent Hong Kong. Went there five times in 2009. they speak english quite okay. plus you only need to know the chinese basics.

As for the Philippines, it's drought here so more on beaches please. you should go to Bohol, Palawan Islands (Coron or Puerto Princesa), there's the famous Boracay (but Palawan is less commercialized so I'd go for Palawan.
