High Necked

Sorry...there is no outfit shot sans coat! It was too cold and we didn't have a lot of time. At least my neck was warm (holy scarf!)....and my legs. (I wore nude tights underneath!)

Wearing secondhand Kenneth Cole Reaction coat ($60), secondhand scarf ($3), Gap brown 3/4-sleeve top (gift from my mom and sister), thrifted Anne Klein belt ($1), Shade Clothing skirt ($12), F21 tights ($7), and MIA brogues ($43).

I feel like I've been doing great coming up with new outfits since I've been home and then I see this and I don't feel it. It doesn't go with the rest. I'm not really sure if I like it or not. I'm leaning towards like but there has to be a few changes...not sure what yet. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  3. I love the way you're wearing that scarf! I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks for the nude tights tip. I don't any, because frankly they scare me. But I'm realizing more and more they shouldn't!

You look great! And warm! That's talent.

  6. i really like this.. i think it's refreshing to interchange the black and white thing when it comes to outfits.. like, it's nice to see a white bottom and black top, instead of the usual (other way around). great pop of blue for added interest as well! :D

  15. The olor of that scarf is so pretty! Maybe add a long necklace too for some more detail? Good idea to double up the tights for warmth too. It's cccccold out there!

  16. I actually really like this look and wouldn't change anything. Maybe it would look a little better with heels because of the length of the skirt but seriously, you look gorgeous. As always. Love the pop of blue in the scarf!

  17. I love the skirt, it has such a beautiful shape. Perhaps you could try a colored top that is a few shades lighter, or has a pattern.

You could also try a bolder shoe, perhaps a heeled bootie?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am on the 'like'! The accessories add nice colour and texture, and the white just makes it very crisp.

But maybe a chunky bootie to balance out the coat?

  19. I think it looks really cute! The only suggesting I have, if you're looking to make the outfit pop a little more, is a brighter scarf - a more intense shade of blue, maybe?

  20. It's cute! I do think shortening the skirt may help a bit? Don't you just love feeling cozy in a soft lush scarf :)

  21. I love how much that white skirt pops out, and beautiful scarf!

  22. I love the white against the black -- it's so crisp and clean. I think a big funky belt would've helped up the ante a bit. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  23. i agree with the heels suggestion, but honestly, you look beautiful! the white is soooo striking!

  24. I think you look amazing! I love this outfit and I like how you wore the classic white and black, but add the blue scarf for the right amount of color. Love those shoes too!

  30. Great outfit! I really love how you wore the scarf.

  31. i think this looks fabulous--i especially love black and white as one of your signature combinations.
however, if you were going to mix it up, i might highlight the relationship between the belt and the scarf--you could do a dark beige scarf with that belt, or do a navy belt with the light blue scarf.
or, because i LOVE camel and white together, you could do a camel-colored top with the white skirt and then add a scarf in dark grey or burgundy??
but seriously: this looks great as is.

  32. you look so gorgeous in that belted white skirt! love this outfit on you. hopefully i'll do as well as you in terms of coming up with new outfits once i get back into the swing of things.

and as for my "photographer friend", we used to date. the short story is...there were some complications with other men (ahem) and so we broke up. currently we're still best friends and there's something there but we decided it's better to leave it be until everything is sorted out. ah, drama :)

  37. "It doesn't go with the rest"

Sometimes I construct an outfit, and while I think it's great, it doesn't seem to fit with the other outfits I've been wearing. I might evolve to a place where it does, bu it's doesn't then. It's always strange, knowing its a good outfit (as this one is) but not feeling 100% like it works...right now.

  42. You have the cutest haircut and I have a young Hmong girl from church with straight hair like you that I am helping to get a bit more "girly." I showed her your website and she LOVES your style so we have went shopping and found cute items that are similar to the stuff you wear. The haircut is different but we got she was inspired by your style. Thanks for helping out!

  43. I really like the pieces here. The only change I would have done is wear a top with a lower neckline - like a scoopneck or v-neck. The skirt is so summery that showing a little more skin may have lessened the contrast with it. But I still think you're cute and I love the color of the scarf with your skin tone.

  46. I'm not sure what you could improve with this outfit, either. It looks cute to me!

I really like how you layered nude tights underneath, I've read about/considered layering tights before, but never really thought about nude to preserve the pattern or color of the tights on top.

  55. Elaine...

We all have days when we may not "feel" an outfit, but everyone else around us gets it. This is one of those days, girlfriend!

Look at that picture again. Every color element of your outfit is repeated in your surroundings. The blue of the scarf complements the blue of the reflected sky in the windows, the white skirt is balanced by the white snow, and the geometric pattern of the tights is reminiscent of the angular lines of the buildings around you.

    I LOVE this photo!

  72. Oh, so cute and put together ! Love it !

I have a photo somewhere of me wearing almost the same outfit in the 1960's...white skirt, textured nylons, coat and a long sleeved button down shirt, black pinstripe with white collar and sleeve cuffs, all the rage since The Beatles were wearing similar shirts...only difference ?...CHER makeup, 5 inch stiletto heels and huge beehive hairdo !!! LOL
