I have a secondhand pair of duckboots that I've had for a while but only wear them for functionality. I want to be able to wear them with my everyday outfits but didn't know how. I remembered J.Crew's recent catalogue and thought it was a great place to start looking for inspiration. I love the outfits but if I wore any of these in Utah, I'd die...
If only I could look as cute as that little girl in her tutu and duck boots!
Do you have duck boots? If so, how do you wear them?

I own (and absolutely adore) my pair of Pajar duck boots. They are completely functional (especially for treacherous winters) and can be adorable. I wear them laced loosely (similar to the J. Crew model), with a pair of argyle socks -- then I tuck a pair of super skinny jeans into both the sock and the boot. The combination of the socks/boots/jeans creates such an interesting undone (but comfortable) look. Paired with a flattering winter coat and cute winter accessories, they look functionally fashionable!
ReplyDeletethese ads are lovely, i like the boots with the thick knit socks and a feminine dress..maybe you could try that
ReplyDeleteamazing post! love the clothes <3
ReplyDeleteOMG elaine i want to hug you right now!!! i have been admiring these photos for months and i DO have a pair of duck boots that i've been tromping around in. definitely will wear and post photos of them soon...and hoping i look half as good as these j crew models.

i am torn about buying duck boots. i know i should get them for their functional purpose, but i am NOT that tall, therefore they make my legs look stumpy. and they're masculine, which i am most certainly not!
ReplyDeletei really like the photo spread, but had to laugh at the photo of the duck boots with pleated shorts. probably not a good look to try in real life :) i think duck boots are cute though! they'd be nice with skinny jeans. or a fitted wool skirt that hits a little above the knee, plus thick tights and even a pair of socks scrunched down to just above the boot. i think they can definitely look stylish, esp on you! ~Joelle
ReplyDeletejeffrey campbell came out with a pair of duck boots this winter - and i'm kind of in love.
ReplyDeletei think skinny jeans and a giant fur hat are the way to go. not to mention bright fingerless gloves.
at least thats how i plan on wearing mine.

i dont think i'd ever be able to pull that off... especially with me being such a short person, i would just look awkward with it! haha!
ReplyDeletelove this post! but idk if duck boots are for me.

The Jcrew boots are "Sorels"
ReplyDelete...a huge piece of Canadiana...and warm ones at that!
I don't have them, but JCrew spreads make me want them! hehe :)
ReplyDeleteooohh, I couldn't picture duck boots until I saw this, and I know what they are now, just never knew they were called that. How do J Crew models always pull off anything? They could wear overalls and a straw hat but probably manage to look stylish.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I say try with a pair of cute thick tights and a dress/skirt and nice warm cardigan and coat, or as another poster said, some skinny jeasn witht eh socks, plus a nice sweater or coat. I'm sure you'll pull it off, can't wait to see the pictures!
Duck boots are my life. I would wear them with knitted grey tights, Thick colorful socks, Tight black skirt and a plaid shirt :) xxx Camilla

omgosh, now i want a pair of duck boots! hahaha! jcrew makes it look so chic:D i think i would wear it with tapered skinny jeans and fun socks peeking a little above the boots like the model above:D i would love every coat in this ad, please! haha thx for sharing these pics, elaine!

that's what thermals are for. ") I love the first pic. My husband has boots like that. I think they are ugly...
ReplyDeletebut some of the pics on here are really cute..
You BETTER wear these outfits in Utah! If you can, then I can, and then nobody will stare at us funny. Haha. I think with duck boots...skinny gray jeans and a plaid flannel shirt. Plaid flannels are $15 at Target right now...and the CUTEST THINGS EVER.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any, but---as usual---this JCrew spread makes me want to own everything in it.
ReplyDeleteI'd only be able to wear them on weekends at the cottage. I couldn't get away with those in the city :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you come up with!
I have winter boots (not quite duck boots) that are not the most attractive things in the world. I also have a pair of shoes I keep at work and I just change my footwear when I get there. So I'm basically just a failure in the fashion department!
ReplyDeleteI adore the colours of this collection. Especially the mint coloured coat. And what a Winter Wonderland!
ReplyDeleteRegards
Nathalie
I have the J. Crew catalogue sitting on my coffee table and i look at it for inspiration daily. love ittt.
ReplyDeleteFabulous collections... I don't have a duck boots, didn't find the need to wear it in the Tropics. If I wear it in Manila, I'll die too. Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteAmazing outfits!

ReplyDeleteI don't have any, but now I wish I did! Not cold enough for them in California though! The styling in J. Crew always inspires me and is so much fun!

i do have a pair of tall duck boots. their vintage ll bean and i've had them in my closet for two years. they always feels so clunky when i try to wear them, but you've inspired me to try it out. if it's cold and rainy next week, i'm gonna pull them out!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I could wear duck boots... They look great in these ads!
ReplyDeleteAsh goldleafashely.blogspot.com
I have a a pair of argyle print rainboots. I typically wear thick sock and tights with them, than I wear a skirt and thick sweater. I love J Crew. They have the nicest, softest cardigans.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my website. I came to peek in yours and I love it! Adding to my blog reader.

i love j.crew. they're my go-to for winter pieces. those kids are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love J. Crew!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely not cold enough to wear duck boots here though... some people wear flip flops throughout the winter!
Aw! These are such gorgeous pics! I Love the boots espesh... I'm looking for a good, warm, chunky pair like that, cause you can't get these in UK i dont think, but they all seem really over-priced on the high street :( Oh and thanks for the lovely comment, as always, it made me smiilleee.

i never thought you could make duck boots look so stylish. i love j.crew's latest catalog, they have the most gorgeous coats and sweaters. i'm dying for the pale green or light pink coat. if only i could afford them :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me, Elaine! My hubby went on his mission to Korea and loved it. Hope you will continue to enjoy the Christmas story, scripture & song. Have a wonderful Christmas!~~Mama Rika
ReplyDeletehaha i love that last photo- that boy is really holding a fox?! too cute! i don't have duck boots, but these shots make me wish i had some! i think they'd look cute with denim cutoffs, black tights and the boots, topped off with an oversized sweater. xo, mel
ReplyDeletesooooo beautiful! i so wish i could afford j. crew!
ReplyDeletehmmm...i do not own duck boots. not really a necessity here in texas. :)
I didn't even know what duck boots were till I read your post!

I haven't worn mine yet, but I'm sure I'll get a lot of wear out of them this winter in Chicago! I actually find that my huge long down coat really helps keep me warm, so while I might not look JCrew catalog cute, I can still wear wool tights or leggings and skinny jeans with the duck boots so that at least I can look semi-cute underneath the coat. :) Of course if I have to wear the boots to work I am pretty sure I'd want to bring a pair of ballet flats or something to wear inside...I don't know how comfy those would be to wear all day long.
ReplyDeletewow, i've never heard of duck boots before but i'm loving these bad boys :D and j.crew is so awesome, i wish we had it here in the UK!
ReplyDeletei've never really found duck boots appealing, but this post might have changed my mind! they look so cute in all these photos!
ReplyDeleteYou are so darling, you'd look good in a burlap bag. I liked your commentary on lazy, comfortable dressing that is still stylish too ! AND I LOVE that pink coat !
ReplyDeleteI've been flipping through this catalog over and over, and I think after this post, I'm sold on the duck boots too! And I agree, the models look poorly dressed for all that snow! The colors and layers are very inspirational though.
ReplyDeleteI was so surprised to see the boots in the J.Crew catalog and I have to admit that it's made me reconsider Sorel boots!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Can't wait to show my 18 yo who grumbles every winter about making her wear 'duck boots' to snowmobile into our cabin during the winter! I actually did get her some reasonably attractive ones for this season - finally succombed after all these years :)
ReplyDeleteKristin
I have to stick around here! I really might rub off - love your stuff!!
I dig a lot of those outfits!! I used to own duck boots and wore them with skirts all the time. Now I'd update them with cool tights and leggings. I really like the Italian Double Cloth look, where the romantic coat and top offset the utilitarian feel of the boots. And as you well know, many Provo people NEED some fashion education. You'll be doing them a favor by wearing your boots in a cool way.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard them referred to as duck boots, but I am waiting to get them in the mail as we speak!
ReplyDeleteThis photo spread is very inspiring. I love the pink jacket. Thanks for sharing!
that pink coat = to DIE for!
ReplyDeleteI love duck boots! I've always wanted a pair... I think the brown and green are so cute.
ReplyDeletethe renegade bean
Just bought a pair yesterday! I plan to wear them with lots of different types of tights and skirts and big sweaters. Also cute high scoks pulled up over tights with over sized t shirts and dresses. Very cute catalogue to take inspiration from!

i don't have ducks...yet. after seeing this on your blog though i feel like running out and getting some! the skirt + sweater + tights + ducks is soooo cute! p.s. good luck with your finals this week :)
ReplyDeletemaybe i'm biased because i have a slight j crew addiction, but these are actually the cutest snow boots i've seen in awhile. if i lived somewhere outside of the city (where the snow gets plowed/shoveled before i wake up) i would totally get them.
ReplyDeletei actually wear mine in the rainy season a lot with a dress and bare legs. in winter, i wear them with straight legged jeans pulled over them.
