  2. Love the boots! I am in desperate need of flat black ones...my brown ones with black tights just make me cringe, depending on the outfit.

  3. Cute boots! I have a brown pair that I got two or three years ago and I've been wanting more and more ever since. They're the best thing ever for chilly weather.

  4. Elaine,
Hi! I like taking out of towners to a couple spots:

-Katana-ya down near Union Square for their ramen.
-Minako Organic Japanese Restaurant in the Mission. They've got the most delicious Japanese corn fritters and sushi. On the pricier side, though. You could get out of there for maybe $40 for 2 people.
-Bi-rite Creamery in the Mission for fantastic, delicious super rich ice cream!
-Sunrise Deli in the Sunset for great, fresh and cheap falafel.
-Wonderful Foods in the Sunset for the best boba (tapioca) in town!
-B Star cafe in the Richmond for great asian-inspired comfort food. moderately priced!

Safe travels! Oh and remember to bring layers...SF gets cold at night!

  9. I feel like I should have cool recommendations for SF because I live relatively close.... like not a big deal to drive out there for the weekend, or even the day.

But, sadly I usually only go for the shopping, which is in touristy areas, or to go to the pier or the beach.

REALLY love the bright blue scarf and grey coat! and the boots of course!

  10. This is probably one of my favorite outfits you're ever done. The boots are incredible, as is the striped top and coat.

  11. I know! Amazing sale! :) I was pretty happy. I went to H&M the other day and bought more $5 things! It's crazy.

SF!? Are you coming for vacation!? You'll have so much fun. Check out Haight and Ashbury! Bring a jacket, the weather's getting all funky! <3

And I'm trying to keep up with blogging!

  13. you should go to the Food Network and look up the show Diners, Dives and Drive-ins (something like that) and there should be places he's listed in SF- amazing, amazing places to eat and not super expensive either! Have fun, good luck.

  16. If you're in the Richmond, check out Green Apple Books and Green Apple Music on Clement (around 6th Ave) - a local quirky hangout!

2nd Bi-Rite Creamery in the Mission.
    Add - Dinner at Delfina.
Also - Tartine, best bakery in northern California.

For a great city view at night, have drinks at Harry Denton's Starlight room.

Check out the Tonga Room at the Fairmont for some cheesey atmosphere and tiki drinks.

    Karaoke - the Mint.

Live indie music - The Hemlock Tavern or the Bottom of the Hill.

Trivia night - Edinburgh Castle Pub or the Bitter End.

Vintage shopping: Haight St. (Villians and Buffalo Exhange and Crossroads Trading Co. are all there.) In the same neighborhood: Amoeba Records (music) and Cha Cha Cha (cajun food; order a pitcher of sangria for max fun). Just start at Stanyan and work your way towards Masonic.

Boutique shopping: Fillmore St. (@California), and also Union and Chestnut btw Van Ness & Steiner.

For fun touristy day stuff, try a go car (gocartours.com), or do a Blue & Gold Fleet tour to Alcatraz. Also visit the SF MOMA, the de Young, the Legion of Honor, or the new Academy of Sciences. Walk through GGPark. If you feel adventurous, try to stake a claim at one of the pits early in the evening on Ocean Beach and have a bonfire.

  26. the boots are great! and you're right, they don't look western-y at all.

K, I haven't been to SF in a while, but a couple friends of mine went a while ago and stayed at this hotel: http://sfhoteldesarts.com/index.php
It doesn't look super cheap, but the prices seem pretty good for San Francisco... and I know they loved it.

I also found a couple lists for the best thrift shops in the area:
    http://sanfrancisco.citysearch.com/bestof/winners/2008/vintage_and_thrift_shop

    http://www.guidespot.com/guides/san_franciscos_best_vintagethrift

Anyway, sorry I can't help you with more insider type stuff!

  56. Found your blog thru the Shade website. Love your style.

You've gotta hit the Mission District while in SF. Eat at Weird Fish (the best fish tacos & mango salsa. Excellent vegan options too), then get ice-cream at Bi-Rite Creamery (to die for), then walk it off shopping at all the unique/eclectic thrift stores and shops down there. The Mission District rocks.

  58. Very chic boots. I don't see the western factor either.
Hubby and I LOVE San Francisco and here are a few spots we hit every time:
    1. Umbria - Italian food, best Lasagne EVER! 198 2nd St. (a few blocks from Union Square)
    2. Osha - fabulous Thai food, also on 2nd St., across the street and 1/2 block down from Umbria.
    3. Specialties! - awesome cookies and great for stopping in for breakfast. Several locations around the city.
    4. Fog City Diner - 1300 Battery St. - generally good eats! And near a really pretty little park if you're walking.
    5. If you're there over the weekend we also love to hit the Farmers Market at the Ferry building on Saturday mornings. Really fun stuff to check out and taste. Scored a great crocheted wire necklace for my sister last time we were there. Wish I'd bought one for me!
    Have fun!!

  60. Love the boots...I'm going to get some RIGHT NOW!

SF suggestions...The Stinking Rose restaurant, but you have to like Garlic. Google them. They're great. Also...especially for Halloween, the Winchester Mansion. So great...and such great history behind it while still maintaining some creepiness.
