Button (It) Down

Tuesday, September 29, 2009
I didn't step out the door in this ensemble. The white shirt was untucked with a few buttons unbuttoned at the top. But it didn't feel right so I buttoned it up and tucked it in. I usually don't like shirts tucked in without a belt but I didn't have a choice today and I was okay with it. Do you tuck without a belt too??

Wearing Gap button-down ($12, last year), secondhand BDG jeans ($10), F21 necklace ($8), Ros Hommerson oxfords ($25).

And a BIG thank you to Lorena for the Honest Scrap blog award!!! :) I am supposed to tell you 10 things about myself:
  1. The husband and I dated for three months until we were engaged.
  2. My parents said no until they met him in person....now we're a big happy bi-racial family.
  3. My younger brother is on an LDS mission in Malaga, Spain.
  4. I've never successfully dieted.
  5. I think automatic music play lists on blogs are annoying.
  6. I almost always choose the wrong words/phrases/sentences. My husband says it's because I think faster than I can talk. He's probably right.
  7. I have a sweet tooth. Not a big one because my stomach gets upset very easily.
  8. I'm 100% Korean, born in Korea.
  9. But I'm starting to lose the language because the only time I speak it is with my mom on the phone....which isn't enough to keep my Korean up.
  10. I love finding change...on the ground, in the car, in your pockets...
And I tag all my readers. Tell me something about yourself.

  1. I'm with ya on the automatic playlists, though I keep the volume on my computer on mute when I'm just surfing the internet so I usually don't know whether they have music on their blog or not! I do wish I knew more Korean! My mom is fluent but I don't really know enough to carry on a conversation! I will have to learn soon!

  4. I agree with you on the automatic playlists!
I never tuck my shirts in, but I have a ruffle-front blouse on its way...so that might be changing soon.

  5. I personally like the belt better with tucked in shirts...but still cute on you! I had to laugh at your honest answers...I'm kinda similar in some. My husband is Korean(I'm caucasian), and we were engaged 3 weeks after meeting and dating. My parents said I couldn't married either(until they met him), and I am well known by everyone by sticking my foot in my mouth...not necessarily because I think quicker than I can speak, but because I'm just rude and obnoxious. And dieting? What's that?
By the way, I liked your Shade photo shoot, you should model regularly for them!

Different note, I love love love the shoes and jeans togeather!!! You look amazing in that outfit! Something special happens when we challenge out parents as adults!!! :)

  14. I love that you think automatic playlists on blogs are annoying cause I do too! THANK you for saying something! :-) My speakers are usually up super loud from my kids watching abc youtube videos (that are super quiet unless you turn them up)---so when I go to someones blog that has one I'm usually blasted out of my seat... no fun!

    Still loving your blog----

PS. You were--for sure--the best dressed for the Shade shoot---is that not nice to say? Well, it's true none the less!

    Have a good day!

  24. Cute look- I saw that F21 necklace and debated buying it, but didn't! :(

  25. I agree (like many others) about the automatic playlist. Why do people still think they're a good idea? I wish I spoke Korean better: I'm half Korean but didn't really speak it growing up. I took a few years of it in college but even that's rusty now.

I sent you another email from a different account--I hope you get it. If not, maybe you could send me an email first? I'm totally up for lunch at Jang Soo Jang sometime. I'm over at thenearestfuture at gmail.

  26. The big problem with the automatic playlists is that it tips people off that I'm reading blogs at work!

My dad served his mission in Korea, oh so long ago. He is the reason I can use chopsticks.

  27. I don't always use a belt- I like the simplicity of your outfit!

My husband and I started dated in January of 96, and were engaged in March, married the following August! When it works- it works.

My parents HATED Matt at first, but now I think they'd trade me for him!!

  36. i like it tucked in! very cute. sometimes i tuck sometimes i don't. depends on how it makes my bubble butt look. haha.

i enjoyed reading your ten things. i only hate automatic blog music if i can't stand what's playing. then i usually just turn off my speakers. however, i have actually found some cool songs/artists by them:)

and you are right elaine, i am not ready to let go of summer. going to have to do the sandal switch out soon....waaaah!

  37. I really like the simplicity of this outfit. And those shoes!!!! Fabulous.

  38. I don't tuck my shirt in, almost never because I feel like my tummy is one part of my body that I don't like very much =)

    I love your ten things!

I love Korean foods. I transited in Korea 5 times now but never had a chance to visit Seoul! Would love too though!

  42. I actually really like shirts tucked in without a belt, I think it can look too plain samey samey with a belt, it's very a formula outfit, but this one looks great! And I LOVE those shoes. Y.U.M.

  43. I agree on the automatic music thing- drives me nuts!

I never tuck my shirts in- hate it with a passion. I feel it puts too much focus on my least favorite part of my body, my waist. I do like how it looks on other people though :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. you are so adorable! those are the best fitting jeans ever!

  45. Hmm I am definitely the same when it comes to the belt with a tucked in shirt issue.... i usually opt for one... but i have an outfit i wore recently where i tucked my shirt but didnt wear a belt. I think it works the odd time but the majority of the time the belt is the best option! I love your style! You have really inspired some outfits and color combos for me to play around with. I make jewelry you should check it out. I think you would really like it! www.goldleafashley.blogspot.com Thanks for your wonderful blog!

  46. I hate those automated music play thingy's as well! I would never beable to use the extra button thingy, I have a pudge on my stomach and this would make it look bigger, maybe I could put one closer to the inside of my jeans..lol.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ah! I love finding lost change! Best feeling ever...never fails to make my day. Also, why do you look so nice in button down shirts? I hate the way they look on me...too preppy or something.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey Elaine - I also find auto-music on blogs annoying. Because I usually have my own music going and suddenly there's crazy noise clashing. I don't tuck without a belt either. My husband served his mission in Korea and would love to practice with you (we live here in Spanish Fork). He taught me "kam sam ne da" (that's phonetic) and a phrase about dreaming a dragon's dream that I have trouble remembering. And Sarang He. :)

  49. You look great with the button up shirt, you cant go wrong with this classic clothes. It looks good on you tucked in, even without a belt. Did it stay tucked in during the day without belt, or it was coming untucked when sitting down or bend over? The common problem with tucked in shirts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Anonymous Thank you! I got this in a few sizes bigger because I had that same problem. I have one that is fitted and a bit shorter that I wear with high rise bottoms but when I am going to wear it with low rise bottoms, I'll wear the bigger sized one!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I try also bigger size shirt, they dont get so easy untucked but they look bulky around the waist, and when they do get untucked they look a lot more messy, because of the larger tail hanging out of the pants. So I stick with the fitted shirts, and every time they come untucked I have to re-tucked them(a bit frustrating some times...). Sometimes I dont notice that they come untucked and move around in work a bit messy! Sometimes they told me that is hanging out(at the office), sometimes make fun with it. Every time sitting in the office, get in a car, bend over, try to reach some files up the office it gets untucked. The funniest part of it was one day in the office the other two ladys working with me, made a note in a paper "why your shirt is always untucked...you need bigger, longer shirt, belt, or suspenders" and stick it in the shirt in my back. I didnt notice it until I went home...and I was like this all the day. I got a bit angry at first place but after I look the funny side of it. So even with this problem I still wear my shirts tucked in, I get used to the problem and still believe it look much better that complately untucked.

  52. I just read the comments of the above anonymous girl, I laugh a lot reading it...she must have some embarrassing moments! So if you cant keep your shirt tucked in, why bother, just wear in compalety untucked. It will look much better than half of it tucked and the rest hanging out. Or maybe is the pants you wear are low rise, and without belt, when bend over these pants tend to go down(as all women find it out), so you need extra long shirt to stay tucked. Anyway, just keep the untucked so you dont get another note in your back next time!
