I Like 'em Bright

8/27/2009

Today was hot. I am SO ready for the fall. I've already planned out some looks.

I haven't done any work yet... I figure I have the whole weekend to do it. I'll probably spend my Sunday night rushing and skimming through Kant (BORING) and power politics (eh). Can you tell I'm not very passionate about my major? What is everyone else studying (or have studied)? I always wish I took more diverse classes than just ones pertaining to my major.

One time, early in grad school, I was trying to make an argument with a political theorist and I was using Kant to illustrate whatever point I was trying to make and my fellow classmate said, "Kant is a tool." And that was the end of any Kant reading I ever did. Because Kant is a tool, you know.

That dress is gorgeous and you look awesome!!

I love the bright colors on you; you wear them so well! Are you a political Science major?

That dress is a beautiful color!
(First time commenting; I found your blog last week via the blog Cup o' Jo. Hi!)

I'm currently studying English Literature at another university in Utah. My big class this semester is American Literature, it's fantastic.

Mostly what I remember about the Intro to Philosophy class I took (which is the only time I have ever or will ever read Kant) is that I would read the material, think I knew what was going on, and then get totally lost during class discussion. Like, to the point where another student would ask a question and I would think, "that has got to be the stupidest question of all time," and the professor would say, "that's a good point." I'm glad NGS thinks Kant's a tool, because that makes me feel better.

I currently have a love-hate relationship with my major of English. Love the literature, hate the three-page paper.

Can I just say how much I love red? It looks especially great with the green.

P.S. Sorry for the forever-long comment.

I really love this color combo- reminds me of summer BBQs. Maybe reminescent of watermelon?

I'm going back to school after taking 2 yrs off due my (wonderful!) surprise baby. I deeply regret saving some GE's for the very end, since that's all I have left to do. And, as we all know, GE's SUCK!
So, I feel your pain.

I just graduated the Bachelor studies in Tallinn (Estonia). I finished Baltic Film and Media school as Bachelor of Arts- audiovisual media. Welll... I love Media :D It's all I can say. :) Films are inspirational, but I am still not sure if the film environment is the right for me. More like Media... But who knows where the path will lead! :)

I still cannot get over that those glads are from Old Navy. I love these colours on you! Did you get a haircut? Hair looks especially good today :)

Did I ever answer your question about the extensions? I think I did but not sure...if I didn't, I really like the Ken Paves/J. Simpson ones they're super easy to pop in. It's a quick way to change up your look if you're in the mood.

p.s. If we ever make it down to SLC - double date is done and done :) Oh, and if you ever want to visit Toronto make sure to let me know!

everything about this outfit is perfect. especially the scarf!

Nice outfit. I went to BYU too, and I studied Spanish Translation, with a minor in Intl' Studies, and I also hated my Political Science classes. You should go ahead and take more fun classes, I wish I had, but now is too late since I already graduated. I had time to take only one fun class, SFL 185R (Beginning Clothing Construction), and I haven't stopped sewing since... I wish I had taken the more advanced classes, but oh well. Since you like fashion so much, you might want to look into that.

Stunning outfit! You've almost got me convinced I should have jumped on the gladiator sandal bandwagon.
My classes in my English major have been pretty diverse and I have waitied for specific classes. However, all my FF and BF classes were really different from them and I loved it.
Do you have any wiggle room to take any exciting classes?

remnantsofnonsense said...

That dress is beautiful! I studied journalism and advertising which made for some really fun classes. However, now that I've been in the "real world" for the past year, I kind of wish I'd taken more design classes because I have a minor obession with all things pretty.

I majored in English, but some of my favorite classes were non-major: history of the Beatles, photography, oceanography...I made it a point to take something each semester simply because it sounded interesting.

Jess said...

I was a Math major with a minor in Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies. I also took 3 semesters of Latin as I was considering a Latin minor, but decided not to continue with it after that. My focus for my major was actually in Accounting, so I took several classes in that as well. I took classes all over the place. I had a lot of extra credits when I graduated and it took me five years, but I had a lot of fun doing so :)

Hi! I have studied International Studies... I graduate 3 years ago! And I've been working for two, I wanted to work in the United Nations Org. but that didn't happened... but I'm happy in my actual work... I love your dress and you look very pretty with your hair like that!

i majored in american history and minored in art history but always loved taking random classes! (like history of rock music, southern studies, asian philosophy). i miss college!

I studied art (specifically photography) I always wished I had time to take the Women in Art class offered at my school.

I love your outfit, the contrast between your scarf and super bright dress is perfect!

You look amazing in those bright colors! I love everything about this outfit. So fab!

I love your outfit, the colors work together so well! As we've established I am also a poli sci major, but I am mostly interested in international relations and global political economy. I absolutely love poli sci classes, I think it is strange how something that seems exciting to some people, puts others to sleep:)

Love the colors of this outfit! The red and light green go so well together and cinching the dress + scarf is pretty cool. Thankfully my study days are over, so I'll be relaxing a bit! Thankfully I haven't had to read any Kant since high school (not that my any major in college is that much more exciting to be honest...). Hope you're having a great weekend anyway!

Elaine,
You have such style- in your clothes and in your writing.
You are fashionable and funny! I just can't believe you are studying Kant and not planning a career around what you love best. I've got ten plus years on you, and I have learned this: you will only be happy if you do what makes you happy!

You were meant to share your writing talent and love of clothing with the world. I know I am in *no way* in any position to judge you or your major- but sheesh... all that time and money spent studying things that don't make you smile...

that's like stripes and plaid together.

nice! fellow chictopia peeps! i really liked this look on chictopia. bright orange with peeps of colour, yum.

yes, i am so ready for fall. bring it on. my body has already melted enough, time to move on.

kant is interesting! you can do it! trust me, i'd rather read that than furiously study from physics, chemistry and biochem textbooks. knowing how proteins fold and how to synthesize chlorobenzene isn't all that practical in real life. then again, grass is always greener on the other side, yes?

I love your use of complementary colors-the red dress and green scarf. You have a great way of using accesories to accent a basic wardrobe! I really admire that and love reading your blog! By the by, I am an art major but am taking two spanish classes and a sign language course as well to break up the monotony- although I do love my major. I feel like it makes me appreciate the unique opportunities I have in each class:)
